Now, Let's Talk about the Bigs.

Non Pba - Kai, AJ, Kouame (This is obvious)

But who is 1 Pba Big that should be really in the Final 12 for 2023. I made a simple poll in AJEF fb group. These are the choices

Japeth, Junmar, Ian, Erram, Almazan, Chua

It turns out to be just Japeth VS JMF

Most voters picked Japeth. And I agree, not because I am a ginebra Fan.

But like majority said, Junmar, is a big liability in pnr. Plus, he doesnt fit with Coach Chot's System. At least Japeth have some mobility and athleticism for the modern game. AND he is playing well this days.

Coach Chot's Prefer Mobile Bigs:

(Kai, AJ, Kouame, Japeth) will be a Mobile Frontcourt.

In the event of JC being our NP though, then JMF can be chosen

(Kai, AJ, Japeth JMF)Frontcourt

PS: Do We Consider Balti, Tamayo, and Troy as Bigs? I consider them as Forwards Kasi

how i wish Sanggalang was trained more to play as a SF/PF just like how Tamayo is doing now.

Sangalang looked pathetic against world class competition. He can't even handle Iranians, what more higher ranked teams?

The biggest reason is he's strictly an inside operator relying on his kontra tiyempo shot. Which will not work against 7 footers. Lol.

Different story if he trained as SF/PF.

My own Anticipation of Gilas 2023 Propects so far
(I consider Caoch Chot as the Gilas Coach)

PG

Kiefer (B league/Pba)
Bolick (Pba)
Alas (Pba)
Panopio (US Ncaa)

SG

JC (Nba)
Thirdy Ravena(or Parks if Available - (B league)
Heading (Taiwan)
Pogoy (Pba)
Wright (Pba)
Dave Ildefonso (Uaap)

SF

Dwight (B league)
Oftana (Pba)
Navarro (Uaap)
Lopez
Caelum

PF:

Baltazar (Uaap)
Tamayo (Uaap)
Japeth (Pba)
Troy (Pba)

C:

Kai (NBL Australia)
AJ (US NCAA DIV 1)
JMF (Pba)
Kouame (Uaap)

Yeah, Looks like Coach Yeng was right. It wil be a mixed of Pba and Non Pba for 2023. But I think it will be equal or at least 7-5 for Final 12 in terms of the composition. Not only pba players

Hopefully, more new gen 6'7 kids follow Carl's footsteps.

Carl was a revelation in the U19 WC.

More than development I hope these kids have a good future by flying abroad, taper their expectations though unlike Japeth and Kobe who aimed straight for the NBA, there are many more opportunities outside that. Troy Rosario also looked promising as a rookie, 6'6 guy who's lean, can operate inside and has a shooting touch but really regressed with age due to lack of quality competition

Sangalang looked pathetic against world class competition. He can't even handle Iranians, what more higher ranked teams?

Dude barks like a dog in the PBA but whimpered like a pussy against the Iranians. Played scared to be honest.

Sangalang's situation is the symptom of the poor condition of Philippine basketball. No drive to improve. Content with being the king of the purok.

With Kiefer possibly coming back in pba. That is another representation of pba for gilas. Lol.

Pba Players Who I Think will be in the Pool for 2023

PG: Kiefer, Bolick, (+ Alas and Thompson (if continue with the way they are playing))

SG: CJ Perez, RR Pogoy, Matthew Wright

SF: Oftana, Abueva(?).

PF: Troy, Japeth

C: Junmar, Erram, Alamazan(?)

Hahaha. There are some questionable selections that I am predicting. But will not be surprised if Coach Chot goes with something like this

Sanggalang is a case of measurables failing him. He is 6'5 1/2 or 3/4 without shoes. But the guy has short arms. Instead of developing a more perimeter oriented game he doubled down on post moves and became one of the most creative post players we have. Unfortunately, his short wingspan will not allow him to flourish in the paint internationally. Even in Magnolia he is not much of a rim deterrent. Ironically, Sanggalang was the most sought after big of his class. But international wise it was Almazan who had the better length and mobility to play there. And even with holes in his own international game, Almazan is miles better internationally than Sanggalang.

Oh. I forgot There will be a WC Qualifier in Jul 1-4.

This is 1 week after Nba Draft. Whether drafted or not. I hope Kai is allowed and available for Gilas in that time.

I think without Kai, it will just be a repeat of February.

I want to see if Kai Sotto (A Legit NBL Player) will be a huge/big problem for NZ. (I believe he will be)

I think Kai, Dwight, and Thirdy can score at will against thar NZ team.

Idk if pba players are available that time. But if they are, I hope it is the deserving ones like Kief, Bolick, perez, etc.

Let's Be Honest Here.

Who do you think are deserving pba players to be at least considered in the pool for Gilas 2023. (Eligible Only)

Mine Would be:

Guards: Kiefer, Bolick, Perez, Thompson, Alas
Wings: Oftana, Wright
Bigs: Japeth, Junmar, Almazan

Not Deserving for me But I expect will be there: Pogoy, Troy, Erram,

This is purely based on their recent production

For me, it's the following:

Guards: Kiefer, Bolick, Perez, Thompson
Wing: Oftana
Bigs: Japeth, Junmar

That's all for me. The rest should come outside the PBA, especially thr SF and PF positions.

Btw, July will be stacked for Gilas.

GILAS JULY 2022 BUSY SCHEDULE

* FIBA WC QUALIFIERS

July 1 - Gilas VS India
July 3 - Gilas VS New Zealand

*Fiba Asia Cup 2022

July 13 - Gilas VS Lebanon
July 15 - Gilas VS India
July 17 - Gilas VS New Zealand
July 18-24 ( Playoffs)

Some Notes on our Gilas Players:

Kai Sotto - The Nba Draft( June 23) is already over in this point of time. Kai will need to choose if he will play for Gilas. Or if he will play in Nba Summer League. ( Hopefully Gilas)

AJ Edu and Dalph Panopio - I Think They will be both available. US NCAA already ended. And Next Season will probably in November 2022.

B league Players - Most Probably available

Pba Players - Hopefully they will be lend at the right time.

Uaap/Ncaa players - Their Season already ends at this point of time. Hopefully they will be released by their schools.

So this will be a stronger team than in the previous window? Chot will have sufficient prep time by then. He will have the UAAP college players and probably most of the PBA guys. So no excuses for Chot if the team doesnt do better.

Thompson looks good to me in this conf. His handles are not Paul Lee level but combined with his athleticism it is enough to make plays in the PBA. He seems to be a better guard than Alas or Montalbo. He should be in the pool. Unlike his previous Gilas stint he is a comfident shooter now. Of course his slashing, passing and rebounding might be challenged internationally but he has earned consideration with his PBA performance.

Yeah, Scottie's making shots off movement now, not just of wide open spot-up shots. He's actually evolved as a playmaker as well. Of course, he's a good defender too. Can stay with his man. As for rebounding, he has a nose for the ball, so even if he's not rebounding, he might get some possessions due to hustle.

He should get consideration from Chot as a PG. Although, he has Kiefer and Bolick to contend with.
