Finally something we can agree on

The thing is .. while we may only use 9 players in the rotation (1 of bigs will hardly get PT) the rest of the 9 players playing 1 to 4 . Are very switchable on defense . Dwight, Clarkson and Thirdy can guard from 1 to 4 spots (not saying full time ..but switch for a second or two.

GILAS 9 MAN ROTATION

PG: Kiefer
SG: JC/ Thirdy
SF: Ramos/Oftana
PF: AJ/ Baltazar
C: Kai/Kouame

Bench

PG: Bolick
PF: Tamayo
Shooter: Heading

Maybe this lineup can atleast compete in WC.

Though sir analyzed may say this is "asa np/import" style. With 2 NP in JC and Ange.

But I think the Non NP are also capable themselves.

back in 2016 we were alll amazed by Pogoy but after 6 years (2022), he (along with troy) became the epitome of everything wrong in Philippine basketball players

In 2016, both pogoy and rosario were 23-24 yrs old with a world of potential in front of them. 6 years later, both are around 30y/o without any improvements to their game.

Another thing: Heading can play both guard positions, which Pogoy cannot. He can moonlight as PG alongside someone like Thirdy and Dwight as his backcourt partner.

However, does he need plays to get himself open, or he can just shoot off kickouts or off pullups?

In the limited footage ive seen of heading, he looks like an all around shooter, in the sense that he can shoot on the move (relocating or off screens), stationary, and even off the dribble. Otoh, his limitations when it comes to his PG-skills is his playmaking and vision.

My Wish List Line up for the World Cup 2023

Kouame 6 11
Sotto 7 2
Baltazar 6 8
Clarkson 6 4 (If eligible) if not Heading 6 2
Ramos 6 4

Fajardo 6 10
Edu 6 10 (if healthy if not Aguilar 6 8)
Tamayo 6 8
T Ravena 6 2
K Ravena 6 0

Part of the Pool
Navarro 6 4
Paras 6 5
Parks 6 4
Oftana 6 5
De Liano 6 5
De Liano 6 2
Bolick 6 1
Perez 6 1
Rosario 6 5
Pogoy 6 2
Harris 6 4
Lopez 6 5
Plus 6 young Bigs

total of 30 players Katuwaan lang

Id replace fajardo with another tall wing in your rotation. Any of paras/navarro/oftana or even adams. Malonzo is ideal if we can have him exempted a la Slaughter.

our cadets are effing old, 23-24 should be the start of the prime years, yet they were treated as rookies..I think both Troy and RR are already in decline now..we need to move on from this 2 failed experiments

It’s been almost 3yrs and jmf will be inserted in the wcq and world cup line up to play major minutes lol

Same to japeth.

These two guys were problem at SEA level but they couldn’t have the same game even against elite teams in Asia.

JMF did well enough in our 2019 qualifiers against Taiwan and Quincy Davis and in the 2nd Kazakhstan game when Dray got in foul trouble. On offense, that is.

We should retire the "cadets" term. Only purpose was to tag players and tell them you won't get on the main seniors team because PBA players get seniority over you. Romeo and Ravena were roughly the same age, but because Romeo was in the PBA he was not tagged as a "cadet".

Well Taiwan and Davis isn't exactly a good Barometer.. if I were to take a guess he's probably worse now than the Junemar we had at the last WC. Sure I'd love to have him if we're really desperate but I'd rather look for a long term replacement

against elite teams in Asia. just like iran, he had difficulty playing against iranian bigs.

Simply put, JMF is an offensive player. To be competitive in the international game, we need a defensive-minded big to anchor our defense--i.e. Kouame.

Blatche back when he was our NP provided us what conventional 2-way bigs provide (post offense and defensive anchor) while also playing as a point center and being an outside threat.

GILAS 9 MAN ROTATION

PG: Kiefer
SG: JC/ Thirdy
SF: Ramos/Heading
PF: AJ/ Baltazar
C: Kai/Kouame

Bench alternates for other games

PG: Bolick
PF: Tamayo
Defense Oftana

.

I would go with above , reserves are for other games
9 man rotation per game

2/3 interchangeable and 1 /2 and 4/5 and 3/4

I think Oftana is not a necessity for WC 2023 if Parks is available. Then you have Dwight Ramos and Jordan Clarkson. Those three Parks, Ramos and Clarkson can be our SFs.

As far as the shooting guards my choices are Thirdy, CJ Perez and Matthew Wright.

My point guard rotation are Robert Bolick, Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas.

Lol there are still believers of midget ball even amongst fans. A proper 3 guard lineup would either be Ray Parks, Dave Ildefonso, Dwight Ramos or Thirdy, Dwight and Tuffin/Oftana/Javi, at the same time on the court. Your 6’4 unathletic forwards paired with 2 5 footers or barely 6 footers would get shat on by Korea and Iran we don’t even need to guess what non-Asian teams will do to them lol.

we'll get raped again, imagine Luka (6'7ish) being guarded by Belangel or Bolick

At least he can create his own shot. He can fit Chot's system (although I hope he has a proper system for FIBA, taking a lot of elements from Tab's offense). And, yeah, I think he can shoot on the move (something lacking in most homegrown Filipino shooters).

If he's going to play PG, he will need to play alongside a playmaker or within a ball and player movement-oriented offense.

Oh, my God, are you serious? Fans would still like Pinoy smol ball? Oh, man.

Pinoy smol ball is just three undersized but faster guards. However, if there are still traditional bigs manning 4 and 5, I wouldn't even call that small ball.

So, here's my wishlist for 2023.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Juan GDL
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bahio, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao
Bigs: Kai, AJ, Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Bolick, Romeo, Perez
Wings: MGR, Oftana
Bigs: Erram, June Mar

I'll kinda edit this.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Juan GDL, Bolick, Cansino
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bahio, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao, Arana
Bigs: Kai, AJ, Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Romeo, Perez
Wings: MGR, Oftana, Arvin Tolentino
Bigs: Erram

Updated it.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Juan GDL, Clarkson, Abarrientos
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bahio, Adams (if indeed eligible), possibly Policarpio, Eusebio, and Torculas
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao
Bigs: Kai, AJ, Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Bolick, Romeo, Perez
Wings: Oftana
Bigs: Erram

It might be expanded if the requests for exemption are granted to Mikey, Malonzo, and Jalen Green, but come on. I'd rather be realistic and focus on youth development for 2023 rather than the exemptions. Of course, we'd still like to remain competitive.

Updated again.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Heading, Clarkson, Abarrientos
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao
Bigs: Kai, AJ,*Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Bolick, Perez
Wings: Oftana
Bigs: Japeth

Then when the 6'7-6'9 forwards like Hyunjung Lee and Watanabe in the future starts getting hot and draining 3s in front of players like Matthew Wright, Pogoy and Thirdy, threatening to balloon the lead to 20 points in the 3rd quarter, the diagnosis would've been they're not "closing out" quickly enough lol. We just can't get enough of players 6 inches taller draining jumpshots over our undersized players, this is some next level masochism.

Updated again.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Heading, Clarkson, Abarrientos
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao
Bigs: Kai, AJ,*Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Bolick, Perez
Wings: Oftana
Bigs: Japeth

That's a really good pool suggestion, damn that would be amazing to see assembled. Better yet if they're separated into 2 competing teams like China, Jordan and Taiwan do with their teams although that's a far off suggestion.
