Sorry but to save everyone's heart aches , forget the 2023 World cup.. that's 2019 Word cup repetition. But maybe 10 pts better instead of 30 pts blowout average.. it's simply not how basketball programs works . Were you convert the Feb Window into a competitive team in 1 year . That's hugot craming .. like hoping Clarkson plays as a local and we get a NBA all star center as NP.. yeah like that is a reflection of our program.

The best is just to hope that we start with a new program for 2027 or 2031 na lang. C'mon we weren't born yesterday. This is so predictable

2023 WC is special because we are the one hosting it.

i agree that coach tab shouldnt be replaced, and the program.

But Ganun talaga.

Still hoping and expecting a better performance than that 2019 WC stint. That was a disaster.

What was shocking was how quickly they did a 180 on Tab and youth and went with Chot and his guys.

We won't be as bad as the Yeng "led" team but don't expect wins either.

Do you have a chance to know a little bit about Tab's plans after he resigned? Is there a chance we'll see him back ASAP or is it at a point of no return? He still has not spoken to the public, although Spin did say that Tab was willing to appear in Spin sooner or later based on what his team said.

We better hope that FIBA will approve Chot's wishlist as locals, otherwise I doubt we can reach the 2nd round. I would say we should expect a performance between 2014 and 2019.

Well they haven't been that kind to Chot in the past.. but were hosting so maybe they want some mileage this time. Personally I'd be happy if we don't get blown out nightly as we did in the last WC.

Thank God I only watched the Serbia and Italy games that time.

Wrong players, 10 days of prep time, how wouldn't that turn into crap? We looked like deer in the headlights. I only hope that SBP learn from this. Otherwise, crap.

not with chot being program director and coach..

Chot should be able to get those SMC players, otherwise what is the point/advantage of him being the coach/project director? If he can't even get the PBA players that he wants, then this suddden direction is even more stupid.

I doubt FIBA approves of his wishlist. They only give exceptions if it can improve the quality of basketball in that country (Jawato). The Philippines has a rich tradition of basketball (although heavily mismanaged and politicized). Plus, when you factor in our performance with Tab's Gilas, it gives FIBA more reasons to disapprove this request. I have more faith in Kouame being a local than Clarkson, TBH and that's already a long shot.

As long as we are the best performing Asian team in 2023 WC... That is already mission accomplish... I don't see any Asian team will make it to the 2nd round anyway... even Japan w/ NBA players will have a hard time to advance.. For sure our best rivals for that spot are China and Japan (w/ Korea already out, one less worries)...

Be humble, and you’re Making false assumption again. Tsk.
As if we’re sending the best rp5 next year.

This is exactly what I'm thinking about (and worried about). Instead of more deserving players, maybe the PBA favorites will be sent, even if they're not FIBA fit, or have had a bad track record. And SMC might make Chot choose (1 per team rule, as I learned from Silent Killer).

I'm specifically worried that the likes of Pogoy will be in over Navarro, even Lebron.

Not just for this competition, but the Asia Cup as well.

Agree ipc.

I think smc would be all-in with this rp5 line-up just to make sure the likes of junemar, japeth, lassiter and abueva would be in the roster. Pba all star plus few shoo-in overseas based players and NP would be the our rp5 line up

Actually, the addition of Marcio and Japeth isn't bad. Marcio provides shooting and defense, but I'm worried that he'll be put at 3 and be mismatched against 6'6"-6'8" SFs. Japeth provides rim protection and a few rebounds, but he's foul prone and not a good post defender. In addition, both would be 36 by the time of the WC.

Abueva would have been nice were he younger, and developed as a combo guard. Hay, nako. He's an undersized SF/PF, but he could have been better as a combo guard. We really have a long way to go when it comes to development.

Hoping for the best nalang.. Hope that luck will be our side next year, No injuries to our key players, As i said before, i don't care who will be the coach, As long as Kai, AJ, JC, Dwight are still there and more improve and healthy next year, we still have a chance...

I've lowered my expectations since it's Chot coaching. Even if we somehow managed to field Kouame and JC at the same time it won't matter much. We sent our best players with JC minus Blatche before in the Asian games and we still lost against Korea and China.. it's not just the lineup that matters

I'm not buying any Gilas tickets to next year's WC at all. Rather spend it to watch Team USA and Balonçesto España.

Use the cedilla (ç) for Catalan, hermano, not Spanish. Only if before 'a' or 'o' or if it's the last letter.

Spanish is just baloncesto.

In any case, nothing to expect, really.

Haha I support Barcelona in Liga Endesa. TIL Barça is the Catalan version.

Is the pronunciation of Baloncesto in Spanish the same though?

Almost. Depends on the Spanish. In European Spanish, you pronounce 'c' before 'e' or 'i' like theta. In Latin America or southern Spain, you pronounce it like s.

In Catalan, soft c is an s.

Good interview. I had a detailed analysis but my post hung up. A recommended viewing.

He said some good things and handled the interview well like always, but this time around we should assume it was lip service. After all, actions speak louder than words. He should put his money where his mouth is. We will see in the next competition/window if he embraces change (doubt it).

He said a lot of good things. Let's see with the formation of the SEA games pool.

For the SEA games I expect the Gilas 2019 cadets to be in the pool. Those guys would ensure any Tab play Chot uses will be executed to the letter.
