Chot released a 23 for 23 in 2018 after Phils were named co hosts for 2023, two names that have seemingly "disappeared" from that list were Ambojot of Letran and Joshua Sinclair of NU, Remy Martin was also on that list as well as Troy Rike. to be honest even way back 2018 I kinda felt that list was just another one of Chot's gimmicks, even though that pool played college teams during the 2018 FilOil it was obvious that it was impossible to keep the pool together since Bolick, Perez, Mocon, Desiderio and Tratter to name a few were already expected to join the PBA after the NCAA and UAAP seasons that year. Plus Chot had Remy Martin in their as well as AJ Edu both of whom won't probably waste time "trying out" for a slot as part of a pool.

The only PBA players I'm willing to consider are Erram, Oftana, MGR, Adams, Bolick, and Perez, as they can be assets in FIBA play.

I take back my inclusion of June Mar in the wishlist. I dunno if he can still contribute.

if Anthony Semerad is eligible why not take a flyer on him? he has what many are looking for to play the swing positions - shooting, size, defense and is not afraid to back down from anyone. Unless of course he is ineligible since he did play for the Czech Republic youth team before

If he's eligible, why not? He'd be a great asset, and can play 2, 3, and 4. And like you said, shooting and defense. If we go small, it's not like we'd be sacrificing strength with him.

I hope he is eligible, because he'd be a great asset if ever.

If I'm not mistaken, the twins already played for a FIBA related tournament during their teenage years bannering the Czech Republic.

Who among the cadets would've been available if Tab didn't step down? If it's just the likes of Go, Nieto and Bellangel, tab will only look bad. All these, much of the core playing overseas, UAAP standouts being unavailable and the PBA being more uncooperative, point to forcing tab to step down more than the conspiracy theory that Chot crawled his way back here.

there was 16-man pool practicing since November bannered by players you mentioned. If Tab is destined to look bad, then he should have looked bad, and he should have been made to look bad, and if he didnt win, then Tab should have been fired.

but removing Tab, 3 weeks before playing a single game in qualifiers, now that we know that Nenad Vucinic is on SBP payroll and already here as consultant, maybe even coach, already points that the leadership at SBP did something behind the scenes so suddenly, and did not allow Tab to continue.

whether Chot usurped the position is not anymore important. the point is SBP leadership did not use meritocracy and did not choose to continue a working program. SBP should explain to the Filipino fans. they do not own basketball in the Philippines. the leaders at SBP should be replaced

Well, if those players mentioned are the ones to banner the NT in the forthcoming tournament then rest assured, tab will look bad. And i don't think Tab will allow that to happen. Your statement "he should have looked bad" doesn't apply at all, the situation now is far different from when we played korea and serbia.

Tab is program director, it should be his call to look bad. So yes it's possible that Tab will banner the team with stronger players, as he should.

But if Tab wasn't allowed to beef up the team with B. League players, then that reeks of corporate mudslinging and SBP Leadership stupidity. off with these SBP crooks--> Samahang Backwards Pilipinas, as Chino Trinidad coined.

I’m seeing it as Tab not having the right players and his only choice was to ask for the PBA’s help.

Not gonna work out so he stepped down and gave the job to Chot to alleviate the situation.

What’s the takeaway here? It was lose-lose scenario. Tab was never going to get the personnel he wanted for this window.

No, it's not a question of was he allowed to beef up his team with B League players of not but the availability of those players (including other leagues and the UAAP).

But who made the assumption that B. League players are not available? Why are we making this assumption?

the only BLeague player who was in the ACQ lineup was Dwight Ramos right? And the Gilas team w/o Dwight and Carl Tamayo almost beat Serbia. Sure they'll miss Jordan Heading too but its not as if the core of that Gilas team will no longer be available unless its those who play in local leagues who are the ones really not available LOL

Actually, Dwight wasn't in the B.League. Only Thirdy was in the B.League at the time, and thus kinda unavailable.

sorry what I meant was the only BLeague player "right now" that played in the last ACQ was Dwight, the others didn't :)

2023 Gilas Possible Pool

BIGS - Kai, Aj, Erram (or Almazan)

Combo Forwards - Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao, Rosario, Oftana

Swings - Dwight, Parks, Tuffin, Lopez, Wright, Thirdy

Guards - JC, Dalph, Juan, Kiefer, Heading, Ildefonso, Bolick, Perez, Pogoy

Coach: Chot Reyes
System: Modified Dribble Drive Offense

(Note: Some TNT/Nlex Players because coach Chot. Some SMC players, at least invite them to pool)

If Tab didn't step down and he retains, It will be the line up

Kouame
Go
Bulanadi
Suerte
Matt Nietto
Mike Nietto
1GDL
Ramos
Navarro
Rangel
Tungcab
Thirdy (I think he will join if Tab still the coach)
Belangel
Dave Ildelfonso
Chiu

Basically kaya parin mag compete but it will lose both to Korea and NZL, But can able to beat India... The thing is butas magiging big rotation natin especially forward position... vital kasi si Baltazar and Tamayo.. my guess here is if NU and DLSU were allowed Baltazar and Tamayo eh Tab might likely to stay as Gilas coach

I dont think its about the player availability. Tab will use the players he can for the Feb window. Actually the expiry of the 2019 Gilas cadets was the surprise. With those guys we can have a complete team. Tab would just need to borrow a few PBA players familiar with his system. Say Pogoy, Rosario and Oftana.

if these were all the choices, then my final 12 would be:

Kai, Edu, Erram, Baltazar, Tamayo, Rosario, Ramos, Wright, Panopio, Heading, Kiefer, and Clarkson.

imo, this is a team that synergizes well with one another. i purposely left out Parks even though he's very talented and a favorite as he's someone who doesn't fit into the organizational culture of the current gilas program.

Where is Kouame? , Fajardo , Navarro,

Sorry. Forgot Navarro.

And Yes, I dropped off Ange because JC will be NP. UNLESS JC will be classified as local. We can use Kouame as NP to help Kai and AJ.

I really think JMF is not the same anymore, much more in 2023. In short, he is past his prime plus injury concerns.

ANYWAY MY Shoe ins for 2023 WC ( Assuming all healthy and available) are:

Jordan Clarkson

Kai Sotto

AJ Edu

Dwight Ramos

Justine Baltazar

Carl Tamayo

Those are 6 players already. The remaining 6 spots are still an open tryout for me. Will largely depends on what will happen this year and next year. Who will regress, and who will progress.

The other 6 spots will be battled between pba players and some overseas players. Especially the Guards and Wings Spots.

Bigs and Combo Forwards imo, are already have been set.

So, here's my wishlist for 2023.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Juan GDL
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bahio, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao
Bigs: Kai, AJ, Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Bolick, Romeo, Perez
Wings: MGR, Oftana
Bigs: Erram, June Mar

I'll kinda edit this.

Non-PBA

Guards: Kiefer, Parks, Thirdy, Dwight, Ildefonso, Juan GDL, Bolick, Cansino
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bahio, Adams (if indeed eligible)
Forwards: Baltazar, Tamayo, Quiambao, Arana
Bigs: Kai, AJ, Kouame, Cortez, Chiu, Lepalam

PBA

Guards: Romeo, Perez
Wings: MGR, Oftana, Arvin Tolentino
Bigs: Erram

So U pick Ange over JC?

I will still pick Angge over JC. Kai has not shown he can handle starting center minutes. AJ Edu has not either.

My big lineup would be

Kai
Kouame
Baltazar
Dwight
Dave

Medium lineup would be
Kouame
Baltazar
Navarro
Dwight
Bollick
