In fairness to our beloved PBA, the league took a 2-week break to give way to Gilas' participation in the window qualifiers of the 2019 World Cup. Gilas didn't have problem with chemistry/cohesion as players like Junmar, Japeth, Norwood, Castro, Romeo have built-in chemistry having played for several FIBA games in the past. The problem arose after that brawl with Australian players which resulted to the suspension of several gilas players & coach Chot. We were compelled to bring in new players to our team which resulted to some chemistry or cohesion issue.

True, it has been a long time na so I forgot na HAHAHA. One way or another, that brawl was a blessing in disguise in my opinion. Sure maybe we would have performed better in the World cup but overall, I believe that event was necessary for us to grow to where we are today. In other words, things happen for a reason talaga hehehe.

Based on this video:

* Games will be in a home and away format (Hopefully by November the situation will be much better)

* 7 berths will be allocated for Asia and two spots are already taken by the Philippines and Japan. Indonesia can have 1 also if they are a quarterfinalist in the Asia cup.

* If hypothetically, the Philippines and Japan will lose all of their games in the first round, they still automatically qualify for the second round.

* The first round and second round will have three windows.

* No specifics yet on the draw process, but hopefully East Asia and West Asia will be mixed to make it more fair rather than separating them.

Since we're automatically qualified for the World Cup, and we get to play all 12 games for the qualfiers, that gives us the room we need to integrate as many youngsters as possible. Of course, we need to win at least some, as young players can develop better in winning envireonments.

I hope Tab and his coaching staff can get as many youngsters as possible.

yeah, Tab should get the fil-foreign and foreign-based prospects locked up as soon as possible. Harris, Harper, Briones, Martin, Edu, and Panopio should be invited

Ginulo lang ng video explanation still 8 slots for asia where 2 was alloted already to philippines and japan

Although politics and sports are should in different discussion, The next year's PHL election is crucial to salvage to continue our FIBA 2023 WC hosting rights.. The current administration and of course IATF and DOH are failed to handle protocol in this times.. If the WC will held this year, 100% sure that the tournament will be postpone, Change host venue or might be cancel.. Now in discussion, Who do you think Presidential prospects can handle pandemic protocols properly and can manage to salvage the FIBA WC 2023 PHL hosting on the following year? We can't afford to stay this kind of protocols in 2023, Other countries will question our capabilities to host, They will call for a transfer venue or it might Japan and Indonesia only will host that event, We are the main host of the tournament, MVP spend billions to have this event, Hope our government can do something to lessen the worsening pandemic situation before 2023...

Wala...

yep, phil politics is not a battle of the lesser evil as all of them are equally evil and too self interested

anyway 2023 is still a year or two away, im optimistic that bt 2023 things will somehow normalize, (already saved money for tickets, planning to watch numerous games, hope the NBA elite foreign players like Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Domantas and emerging USA stars like Tatum, Trae ,Zion, Booker etc wil play)

But we have to choose one guy atleast capable to handle the situation.. This is crucial to our WC hosting.. If we demonstrate this kind of protocols in 2023 then international community will laugh on us.. Di lang SBP ang baon dito, the whole Philippines will be doom if we failed to handle protocols in 2023.. Other countries will call for change of venue if this stupid kind of protocols that we have right now.. That's why SBP, PBA, IATF and government should have a plan on how the demonstrate the hosting gigs here.. It should before 2023 start, Fans should already allow to watch the games live atleast 60-70% of attendance.. It start on who will be the next president of our country.. Di lang basketball ang paguusapan dito.. Pati pangalan ng bansa, turismo, ekonomiya at mata ng international community nakasalalay if how we response to this.. That's why i have disappointment on how PBA handling this kind of situation.. Because they are currently the top professional league in our country but they acting like inter "Barangay" on how they run the league... They should have plan now how they get the fans back in the arena...

lets just hope that the private sector (through SBP) take the lead, and with the Mandanas ruling already in effect by that time, local politicians will play a bigger role (ehem bulacan, qc, pasay, manila)

Yeah.. And please PBA, do your job to have fans back before 2023.. They are the top PRO sports in the country, But yet can't arrange their tournament properly.. I have a bad feeling if this things will be the same next year.. I don't think we are ready to host this event.. Nahihiya ako na mapahiya Pilipinas in international community... Di pwede Bubble tournament in this event..

For as long as PBA would be leaning towards SMC, the league would continue to be on a self destruct situation. We could sense fans are losing interest watching the games. Ginebra may still be very popular, but the fans of other teams as well as the neutral fans out there who are just supporters of Philippine basketball are turned off with what is going on in the league.

Some neutral fans feel they are like "oto-oto" following the PBA.

Phi politics is like watching a beautiful woman being courted by 5 guys with all 5 guys exhibiting good qualities. At kung sino man sa 5 ang sagutin ng babae, doon na magsimulang lumabas ang totoong katangian ng lalaking naging nobyo. Katangiang halos puro kapangitan.

Even the one currently in Malacanang exhibited so much promise during the campaig period. May pa jetski-jetski pang gimik as if he'll fight for our sovereignty even if he's the only Filipino left alive to fight. Tapos noong naging presidente na, halos ibigay nya boong Pilipinas sa China.

While I concede that wala talagang matinong presidentiable dyan, let us not vote for an arrogant & cussing presidentiable who doesn't respect other people's oppinion.

Being one of the host of the 2023 World Cup in this pandemic time puts the SBP & MVP group into a different level of challenge. This is quite unprecendented for SBP, MVP & the country as a whole. So its very crucial & critical for the powers that be to get things right.

Another thread being ruined by inserting politics. Stick to basketball. Politics is beyond the control of even SBP's stakeholders.

But I have to say this, they keep on bringing up territories lost to China (that were actually lost during PNoy's term) but forgetting that Pnoy didn't support the pinoys trying to reclaim Sabah essentially giving up our claim. Not supporting your people while they're being pummeled and killed by Malaysian Armed Forces is treason.

Well, we are talking about the possibilities of postponing 2023 WC if the situation still not good 2 years from now.. If the WC was held this year, 100% sure it will postponed because our situation still not well.. That's why the next year's elections will be critical who among the next president can handle the pandemic situation well... You should know that.. This is not about politics, This is about the credibility of our ability to host in these times... Remember, 2023 FIBAWC is not about only basketball.. It also promotes tourism, It also affect our economy as well.. If in 2023 the situation still the same, Do you think other countries approve our hosting? We will host atleast 20-22 countries (4-6 countries will go to PHL after preliminaries after Indonesia and Japan will host 8 teams each).. Our credibility in international community is at stake here.. Good governance plus help from SBP should be must there.. That's why very critical for SBP who will win president in 2022...

The pandemic will work itself out, advancement in science and medicine even in short 2 years will bring everything even.As much as possible the less participation of politicians with SBP the better,I can see a gov't hand on organizing, safety, tourism, promotions and anything else,as long as not directly with Gilas and basketball.

Worst case scenario is really all games move to Japan, and Japan just repeat the same protocols it used for hosting this year's Olympics.

Actually, I am quite optimistic about the World Cup happening with full fans and all.

1.) For context, we began vaccinating on March 1, and six months later, 14 percent (15.1 M) of the population is fully vaccinated, with another 21.1 million Filipinos having received at least one dose. At this rate, we should be at or below 50% by March of next year, in 2022. By the way that is without the 12-17 population.

2.) More vaccination centers are being opened, especially alternatives like the drive-thru vaccination centers. In Cebu City alone, another 3 centers have been opened in the last month! Cebu City by itself is targeting 21 vaccination centers. I don't know about other cities in the Philippines, but more or less, hopefully they are the same also.

3.) If the studies support it, more vaccines will be allowed for children, like the way Moderna is now for ages 12-17 in the Philippines. Hopefully, Pfizer will get approval for 12-17 also to hasten the rates.

4.) More vaccines are on their way.

5.) Our country is also taking part in a global trial for one of these medicines, called Molnupiravir, with the US, Canada, and Japan. If this drug is successful, which I think it will be, we can treat more people, especially those with severe symptoms.

6,) Overall, I think the world itself will also get better at handling COVID from the medications, vaccines, and protocols in the next 23 months. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, we can treat COVID just like the flu, like Singapore and all of the other countries who have this more or less controlled in 2021 but for this to happen like Singapore, we must achieve herd immunity.

Worst case scenario is really all games move to Japan, and Japan just repeat the same protocols it used for hosting this year's Olympics.

When Japan hosted the Olympics they only have 26% fully vaccinated, fast forward 2 mos.later they're at 46% almost catching up with the USA at 53% fully vaccinated as of today.By the end of the year they would be over 65% fully vaccinated.

A lot of the reason Sayson lists apply to ALL NBA players, not just Clarkson. Is he implying that no NBA players, including Team USA, will play in 2023 WC?

not necessarily, he just pointed out the dilemma of free agents when suiting up for their respective NTEAMS since no one will cover it, and the open secret that team owners are not pleased with their multi million investments playing for their country during the off season which is a injury risk and time could have been spent resting/training for the new season

edit: hmm interesting take on Klutch sports, would try to research on players represented by that agency vis-a-vis NTeam duty, for one Ben Simmons dod not play for Australia and is under Klutch sports

If Clarkson gets FIBA Local clearance, then I am sure that Utah will allow him. The Jazz are actually one of the few teams with a lot of international players suiting up for Fiba.

Gobert - France

Bojan - Croatia

Ingles - Australia

Ilyasova - Turkey

Mitchell - USA

Unless NBA players are not allowed to play in the 2023 World Cup, I see no reason why JC can't play for us if the situation (Local clearance) allows us.

only circumstance that I could see which would prohibit NBA players from suiting up for their respective NTeams would be free agency status. No nba contract, no insurance, which is a big gamble on the players part, especially if he gets injured. Though there are owners who are against their players playing in international tournaments like Mark Cuban, there is nothing much they could do as the NBA and FIBA has an agreement regarding releasing players for national team duties..just my two cents
