The offense we ran with Chot, it sometimes stagnated and too much ball-dominance. I concede, maybe it could be due to lack of practice, but come on.

Thing is, off-ball players can't get in rhythm because of some players' tendencies to dominate the ball. In order for players to get in rhythm, they have to touch the ball. We just need an offense that encourages our ball dominant players to just move and look for a better spot without the ball.

So the players shoul be chosen for their ability and skills that will fit the coach's offense and defense schemes.I agree that there should be no more than 3 or 4 guys as the go to players going down the wire,in other words 6-7 superstar players and the rest are team players.

^^
They say you can have 2 to 3 quality offensive players and you can be proficient on offense, but if you only have 2 or 3 players who can defend you will be a bad team! Gilas issues is actually defense, oh BTW our defensive coach in the 2014 WC where we did so well was Tab!
Oh how was our defense vs Australia in July 2018 window?

Chot's defensive scheme is pretty abysmal. Really? Double teaming the PNR ballhandler while leaving the PNR rollman? 2-3 zone defense against good 3-point shooting teams?

His version of DDO is pretty predictable but his defensive strategy makes it worse.

Funny thing was, he had legit small ball bigs in RDO and Kelly Williams in TNT. Wonder how he didn't really complete small ball lineups in the national team.

Not enough players like RDO, I suppose?[/QUO

But Chot wants Minio ball playing 3 PG barely standing 6-1
....

Get this the Heat's two tallest players who played yesterday were Adebayo (6'9) and Buttler (6'7) yet they were also the 2 best in assist! That's versatility. And yes they're the two best perimeter defenders as well!

Aside from Bulaga factor in 2014, it was all downhill for Vhot...Bombed put in the Asian Games 2014, was even worst in 2017 FIBA Asia Cup losing to Korea by 33...So Utah after the initial success but when DDO was all figured out it was all downhill...Di lang mascot ang Gilas in 2014 coz opposing teams things Gilas are just newbie and minnows. Besides Chot got Assistants or Consultants at that time in Tab, Lascano...

While we should give credit for the 2014 Gilas performance which is indeed a huge accomplishment.
It really isn't realistic to use the same approach and hope to get the same results. There is just so many other factors to consider. What worked in the past does not necessarily work for the future (that's different thing!)

That's like saying all teams should use Phil Jackson's triangle, kasi it worked for Bulls and Lakers. Doesn't work like that

And I concede that's also a problem. A lineup with 3 undersized guards, something that's become a norm in the PBA. It hurts us on both offense and defense.

I remember that game. Our rotations were really bad, leading to a lot of wide-open looks.

That can be mitigated if one of those 2 or 3 is a great free safety defender like Giannis, Draymond, and maybe LeBron. The guys who may not be the ones you put on the best player, but who are excellent help defenders. Wonder why we don't train that role, especially among our 6'6"-6'8" bigs.

Come 2023 we are back with Chot again? Well after 2014 DDO has been scouted already...No element of surprise and limited options with DDO....See after 2014 what are the significant wins Chot got? Remember that 33pts massacre against Korea...Although Chot is definitely better than Kalbo though...Problem with Pinoy coach, there will be favoritism or always mamumulitika..Unless foreigners they will be more objective ...Puso is good , but we need Brains also

I think SBP will hire an international reputable FIBA experienced coach.....the program director will however be a filipino....most likely one of MVP's executives running one of the PBA teams......Tab might however remain as a consultant.....the international coach will then select his players.

If its Pinoy PD , the most ideal is Ryan Gregorio...He had relationship with both SMC and MVP group..Ryan though don't have enough experience in Running affairs if NT like contacts for Training Camp and Tuneups and not known also good in player development...

"International Reputable Fiba Experienced Coach"

Hope so.

But there is a feeling that pinoy coaches dont want international coaches calling the gilas, and be successful.

Funny it's developed into a habit for some posters to bring up the gilasXboogers brawl whenever Chot gets mentioned as a possibility to coach gilas in 2023. As if it's what defines him as a national team coach. As if the incident didn't take two to tango and was all gilas' fault. As if the Aussies weren't disrespectful even the night before the game. As if the aussies themselves weren't playing dirty. Chot had several players in that game who were relatively new to international games of that level and magnitude. Pogoy, being one, looked like the one who instigated but wasn't really the case. Far from how a veteran like ranidel (except for the kuwait? UAE? incident, which he still got away from anyway) handles such situations. Hit somebody - that's something a ranidel or a pingris would know how to do. Have not heard anyone covering the 2014 games make remarks that ranidel is playing dirty, or even implied. Yet Giannis felt some. Pogoy, his inexperience showed. Anyway, so much for that.

Speaking of Pogoy, he's actually not that bad of an athlete for the
position he plays. He's what a typical non black athlete is, except for the height. Australians, and most European 2s and 3s are about the same athleticism, sometimes even less, but are much taller. And in relation to Chot's "midget ball", let us set aside that despite that, that gilas squad exceeded all expectations (personally, i preferred he had at least one less midget guard. Tenorio, to be particular), i dont think he'll have that anymore. Jason, Jimmy and company were the best 1 and 2s of that time that's why they're on that team (save for Romeo who was left out, and will prob
probably be left out again). Jason has long retired from fiba ball, Jimmy has long retired from playing (heard he's made it to the sacramento Kings, BTW), paul lee will be past his prime, tenorio will be too old too. Clarkson (regardless if as a local or an NP) will provide a lot of size at the back court. Perez and Bollick, i bet will make Chot's lineup. Other candidates ray Parks, JGDL are 6'4 and 6'2. We might even end up with a smaller backcourt if tab handles the team (Ravena, Nieto).

Politics under local coaches. We think there'll be none under a foreign coach? As good as tab is, he'll have less able players either because of availability (ateneo and MVP teams) or none availability (rival schools, SMC teams). Batang gilas, even with tab as program director, was affected a lot by politics. If we really want a foreign coach, get him over now because the shorter the time he's here, the more politics will get in the way of choice players. Toroman who was new to the scene knew too little about the local talents, he ended up with a lot of lemons. I bet most were from recommendations. Had he knew better, half the team would've been different. Im all for a good international coach, but if we cant get him to come soon, id prefer having "puro puso lng daw" chot Reyes.

alapag was the assistant coach for kings summer league team. for now he’s looking for a coaching gig in NBA. he prefer california area..

as for chot, give chance to others. chot was given a lot of chances already plus he already accomplished bring RP to world cup after decades. And he’s not in MVP group anymore..

Wait???

As in the NBA Sacramento Kings. And Alapag as Assistant Coach????

I thought he was only in Sacramento G league team

That's the best argument to come up now? He's had his turn, give chance to others nmn, ganun? We're looking for the best options for a world cup coach (if foreign coach does not pan out) and you think that should be a consideration?

How will others gain experience if we keep choosing the same local coach? Do we have lack local coach around to coach RPNT? Why not try alapag.. yes he's in US but he's the best bet around..

There's a fresh post from Franco mabanta congratulating Jimmy. Not much detail was disclosed but i assume there must be something more recent than the summer league stint. Well, i just mentioned in passing, hoping there'll be someone who knows more

From what i read from that tweet, it meant the day jimmy alapag will be the coach of a nba team.. for now he's looking for a coaching gig in US..

I thought so too but i asked which team. The answer was, "he's CURRENTLY with the sacramento kings. So, i assumed that is different from his stint at the summer league

Maybe they'll put him in g league team as AC..
