High on JGDL over Matt Nieto? JGDL is a scorer, I'll go for not so ball heavy guard as Backup for Gilas...Good enough lineup...

It's really more of potential upside, I'm not discounting Matt can make the team, it is just that if I has to pick material for Tab to work with for 1 to 3 years, I'd pick the guys with the greatest upside

On that, aside from 1 or 2 PBA players, they have no upside especially without full time training

^^
AGREE
Absolutely you need at least 10 to 12 players to form a team to train together.
And let the selectors decide prior to 2023 who the final 12 are (including 2 to 3 hugot - Kai, JC etc

Here is the thing about this so called SF NP, unless he trains like Marcus did full time, I find it hard to justify naturalizing him via Congress just prior to 2023 in lieu of Clarkson. (parang scared asa sa import style ang dating

Hoping for SBP to deal with Baltazar's manager.. In the end of the day eh pera pera lang din yan.. When the PBA draft next? Baltazar should be on Gilas draft pool next draft..

Not a sure thing though that once he join the draft he will join the Gilas...He can refuse being included in the Cadets pool thus SBP won't draft him in the special drafts...Wondering why Mike Nieto was drafted over other guys Arvin Tolentino, Aris Dionisio or Shaw who is eligible...Its more of the other refused of being in the Gilas pool..

Well, anybody can orchestrate offense depending on watch the coach demands on them to do. Me? I don't subscribe with the idea of having a point guard.

Even Boomers and Tall Blacks don't really have pure point guards.

Shea Ili and Jarrod Kenny are scorers.

Patty Mills is a scorer while Delly is a 3 and D player stucked in a 6'4 body.

But not another chucker to deprive Kai, Edu, Clarkson of their touches....That's why Terrence Romeo with all his greatness is not one of the primary choice as one of Gilas PG because of his penchant of doing Iso plays, he is effective only if he has the ball..

That’s overassuming things, a slippery slope. Juan never had the reputation Romeo had as they were entirely different players. College Romeo is a ballhog. Juan can both score and pass. He has the highest ceiling among his peers, including Dalph. It is easy to see why people would put him ahead of Matt for 2023.

No problem with JGDL , I for one would chose JGDL over Matt but perhaps not this 2023...I don't see Matt included in 2023 either. It would be Kiefer Bollick as our PG by 2023..

I do think at least one of the full time special draft point guards is included in 2023, otherwise it's defeating the purpose of building and preparing a team long term.
Para saan pa. The PG executes the coaches system.

If 1GDL is a regular mainstay of the full time Gilas training team, I actually don't see a partime hugot like Bolick displacing a mainstay.
It's not like Bolick is naturally more talented by a big margin.
The PG role can be learned, plus it is critical for the PG to grow with the team

If only our local Grade school and high school coaches had trained ALL their basketball varsity players this way (regardless of height or position) 10 to 15 years ago...then we wouldn't have this problem TODAY of looking for skilled 6'5" and above wings and stretch 4s to fill out our national teams.

HECK these kids in this video have better handles than Kobe Paras, Troy Rosario and quite possibly 90 percent of local (pure pinoy) small forwards and Bigs in the PBA today!! It's embarassing.

Also one thing I can say, if coach Tab is looking for a team that can switch everywhere, Matt can’t really do that, Juan at least has more size, strength and athleticism that it won’t be as much of a problem if he was switched onto a bigger guy on defense.

Familiarity is why Mike is being selected.. if adrian wong is eligible eh baka kunin din ni tab yan.. I think tab will select who will be in gilas cadets.. last year they finish the application of draft before announcing who will be at gilas cadets draft.. maybe this is could be next year.. i will not surprise if they select also jordan heading from alab.. he's eligible and big PG.. good choice also.. my guess tab will choose baltazar, oftana and heading as next cream of gilas cadets pool.. don't be surprised if they also put thirdy..

Well Thirdy is part of the pool already with Tungcab plus the 5 Gilas Cadets....If I were to make to choice for 5 Cadets this year and all are available for the draft I will chose Baltazar, Oftana, Heading, Tuffin and Ambohot...Of course if Kobe Paras and The De Lianio Bros will forego their last year in the UAAP, they are all shooin...

If one who was raised overseas isn't inclined to play for Gilas, that's understable and we can only hope we can convince him that it's a good choice. But for a Homegrown to show litle interest, that speaks volume of what kind of a citizen he is. Let's just move on from Baltazar. He isn't even that good to act primadona. Ang daming hamak na mas magagaling hndi mabigyan ng pagkakataon tapos may mga mediocre na paVIP.

he's like Junmar Fajardo when he Junmar was in college and I'm not talking about the skills. Junmar was not allowed to play hy his handlers in the National team before not unless it was his school he was representing in the international tournament. That why I was not really high about Junmar before. There are even some foreign born players who are more willing to represent the country than some of our top local players.(like Junmar Fajardo and Paul Lee before).

On the side note,Nate Pierre Louis had an interest to play for the Philippines only it was too late because of the eligibility rules.

Too bad it was too late.Hes like a slightly taller Thirdy Ravena on steroids.

Wildcard also is Kmark Carino.. If Baltazar declines to be part then Carino should be there.. As of now only Isaac Go is the only legit big in cadet pool.. Adding 1 or 2 bigs will be good for cadets.. overall we still need height...

Agree on this... CARINO with polishing, exposure and some more muscles... Carino is already a better defender than pabebe Baltazar...

too bad Cariño did not develop his offensive skills. If Cariño increases muscle mass, becomes ambidextrous and becomes as good as Baltazar offensively, then he should be national team material.

Funny to read from people who are strongly opposed to having junmar at the 5 position even for an average of 10 minutes, mentioning isaac go as an option for the 4 position. Lol a healthy and in shape junmar is even more nimble than Go and yet there they are thinking that the latter can play for Gilas

Really , have you seen Go switch on PNR last window...Even at Ateneo he was not burn on PNR, even against international competition last Jones Cup....You see Go battle it out in defense....With Junmar since he knows he has to carry the scoring cudgel his defense takes the backseat....Naging habit na nya yannat nakasanayan...

available ba sya ngayon? Is this for the 2023? Even if Junmar is not in the bubble I don't think SMC will allow him to play this November, besides he's coming off an injury.

He can develop that later on.. It's hard to find like him in amateur ranks.. Only him and Baltazar are legit bigs in amateur scene..

possible but time is running out.Hes how old right now? 21-22? He should have developed his physique and skills 2-3 years ago.good thing about him is that he is a very nice shot blocker and he is pretty lengthy but he has to work double time on his weaknesses now.i hope he get Half of Blatche's weight and skill.Same thing with Geo Ambohot. These guys should be dominating right now.

No, not talking about the Nov window but the world cup itself. For me, since we're already qualified (?), use the Nov tournament to train the younger prospects.

malayo pa yan,no point in arguing about it today. We will know the possible lineup months before the world cup. There might be inclusions that we don't see now but will be very strong candidates in 2023.
