As the NBA analyst said (Weber) Dallas actually plays small ball (cause Pozingis despite being 7'3 is a stretch 5!, small ball style refers to skill set not size of players

So I think "Small Ball" is not the right term. It should be "Skill Ball" or "Shooting Ball" or anything like that.

Because for me, Houston is really the true "Small Ball". Since their tallest player in the court have guard size.

That's not what I said. Read again

Which combination would you rather have, Kai, Edu, Parks , Clarkson, Perez, or Kai, Edu, Mc Collough, Perez and Bollick combo...I would take the first combination as the presence of Clarkson gives versatility, dynamism and star factor ( Clarksons presence alone would open up opportunities for his teammates, more than with Mc Collough who cant even dominate the Korean leagues as an import...

Add Clarkson to the list, we negate our strength of the dribble and speed if we insert a player at 1,2,3 who can't attack of the dribble and pass.
Your 4 has to be a stretch 4, to open up the lanes

Players like Tamayo, Troy, Navarro and Kobe fits the bill.

I thought Esu should be our starting PF..Well Edu has outside shooting eztending up to Fiba 3 pt line..What Edublacks at present is bully ball post moves...

While I agree that AJ will be our 4 (with Kai at the 5), there is one thing I barely saw AJ did - attack to the basket from the perimeter.

I say AJ will be our tall ball 4 and small ball 5.

this should be put to rest: JC will play for Gilas on worldcup 2023 either as a local or a naturalized player. the discussion now should be who will be playing alongside him to compliment his skillset.

for me, jc should play majority of his minutes in his natural position as a 2-guard. meaning he should have a wing partner who is bigger and stronger than him (while keeping in step with speed) who can guard the opposing bigger/stronger wing. if this is dwight, then let it be him. parks and oftana are also good candidates. maybe kobe if he can develop his perimeter skills/defense. i think, we should have 2 to 3 players of this kind in the final gilas roster to take advantage of the mismatch JC has as a 2-guard.

G - Perez/Bolick
G - Clarkson
F - Dwight/Parks
F - Troy/AJ
C - Kai

IMO, you need Clarkson to get surrounded by other players that are capable scorers.

He can drive from the perimeter...In fact thats what he did when he got injured last Fiba World Cup...

Well said...We just dont have to discard or dismissed a talebt like Clarkson just for the sake having what we call "big" SF...Eh ang laro sa Fiba is small ball, SG in the NBA are SF in Fiba, SF are PF and PF are C in Fiba...

It's tough to gauge those games as JC never really jelled with the team (super last-minute addition) and Yeng coached the team.

He's really a combo guard. We should look for our starting SF elsewhere IMO and start him at SG. Who is he displacing anyway? Perez could be our backup SG.
Exactly...! For all this hullabaloo about Clarkson as sf, it is actually a non-issue if you look at our pool of players. Guy is quicker and a better shooter than any other wing our NT could offer. And at 6’ 3” 1/4 (official NBA combine measurement), he is shorter (and much quicker, I must reiterate—an attribute that’s generally of a sg relative to sf) than Dwight, Parks, Oftana, Tuffin, Ildefonso etc. Pairing him with any of these guys makes him simply THE sg and a wing player, at the most. After all, there is a very fine line separating the positions (2 and 3). Playing him with the likes of Perez, that’d make him undoubtedly the 3.

It is hard to pass up on having someone like JC in our roster. I am ok with Dwight, Parks, Oftana etc manning the 3 or simply playing alongside him as a wing (para walang diskusyon) as long as I get the firepower that he brings to the table to put up those precious points on the board.

You beat me to it, bro. Well said.

If I might add, for all his deficiencies in the past, I think people better not be counting out Paras as a Gilas. The trend actually favors him as he is now a very viable option on the forward 3/4 spot. I remember people were very allergic of the idea of Paras playing the 4, but look at how modern basketball has evolved...! All moot and academic now, but I think this would have been the most opportune time for someone like Paras’ physical tools to have a crack at the NBA.

Exactly. He can play the 4-spot while having the skillset of a wing. He has the tools and athleticism.

I'm also very interested with the Eusebio kid of UP. Athletic, 6'5 shooter/shooter from canada. He could give dwight ramos et al good competition on the other wing position.

With a big man rotation of Tamayo, Bright, Gob, Kirkness, and possibly Kobe, Eusebio may be used as a 3. But even then, Webb and Murrell may be moved to the 3 as well, so it will difficult for him to earn minutes.

eusebio is a legit wing, UP is wasting him if Bo plays him as a big. the kid is a big time recruit, i'm certain he will get a gilas call-up soon.

Kung wala na talaga pagasa si Kobe to improve on his skills( Dribbling, and Shooting), might as well make him a small ball PF...With his athleticism he will run rings around bigger and slower PF...Kobe is actually deceptively strong, remember he was the Paras genes in him, he can defend the internationally 4s ..At 3 he has difficulty defending the wingers because of his slow laterals...If he putbhisbheart into it , he can be a pesky defender at 4, shades of 6-6 version of Abueva with all the athleticism and angas..Defensively I think Kobe is better than TRoy who looks actually soft, Troys meal ticket though is his 3pt shooting...

Very little work to be done regarding his ballhandling, esp if we peg him as a 3/4. It is already decent as is, as his turnovers mostly come from eagerness (gigil) and poor decision making (barreling through traffic and double teams). This is easily avoided simply by being more composed and mature enough, slow the game for yourself, coaches would always say. But of course it wouldn’t hurt if he tightens it a bit more.

It is his shooting that needs a lot of work. Fortunately, his stroke isn’t broken (Ganuelas) and it is an aspect of the game that one could improve at any point, generally speaking of course.

He can definitely defend the 4 position. We had enough sample size even in the senior level. As a 3, there is no way he’s worse than Troy and Tamayo, who are perennially in the conversation as Gilas’ small forward (3/4 to be precise). Paras has more than enough reps playing against natural wings playing as a wing himself in his Cathedral and Middlebrooks stints.

Overall, I have no problem pencilling him as our Gilas starting sf, alongside Clarkson. We shall see. 2023 is still a long ways to go.
