Long time Serbia in youth competitions has failures. There are many reasons, players who dont play national competitions because they are on college or play out of country. Coaches who play one type of basketball to slow, by template who doesnt work. Last success was 2015 gold medal on Euro u19. This year, on this tournament, we even dont participate, because on last tournament we lost against Great Britain. U18 is maybe oldest generation who can to win gold, I dont mean on this generation, but at generally.

Baba Miller wasn't available vs France yesterday. Starting to look like he'll miss the tournament.

Has someone the stats for the second game? :)

Serbia 88 - Turkey 81

Cengiz 18, Büyüktuncel 15, Sivas 6, Efeoğlu 11, Mestoğlu 2, Yıldızoğlu 4, Konan 9, Yiğitoğlu 14, Büyükcangaz 2.

Özgür Cengiz is the positive surprise of preparation period. He contributed nicely in almost every game. Mestoğlu is playing below his standards. Hopefully, he will gear up.

Cengiz totally went under my radar but watching some highlights he can really go easily to the rim and about Mestoglu he has been struggling to finish around the rim for a quite time now.

Mestoglu didn´t see much minutes last year either in this team, he is not very important for TBF. Mestoglu is the most talented player in this team but if you just 200 as a big your chances are not very good, he will be pro, maybe even a solid pro. I would not overrate this situation. Karahan Efeoglu(SF) got always very much minutes in this generation but he is not important for turkish bb. Yigit Tekin(PG, next season NCAA) is with the team, he had knee injury. He has questionable potential for pro level because of playmakingskills and more because of his NCAA-decision but at this level he is a machine. Arda Duraklar(C) will go to NCAA too, he is raw but interesting potential as a real 210 with his 3 point shooting but with NCAA it will be tough, again very bad decision. This 2004 generation is one of the best of all time, even if some players will not get real playingtime, we will see most of them at pro level. If Samet Yigitoglu starts to protect the rim then he will play in the NBA. For TBF he is the most important player in this generation.

Özgür Cengiz was by far the best player of the U15 NT in the U16 TBF tournament in February 2020 and then came corona. In the 2021 season(6-7 BGL games) he was not very good and he had a bit too small role in the U16 NT. But this season was good for him in the youth league and under coach Cem Akdag(ex-coach of Ömer Yasir Kücük), he had 100% freedom. He must work on his playmaking, must increase his vision but ballhandling, shot making are above average for turkish standards and he is a leader but his biggest plus is his high IQ, kid is just clever and very positive his face is still very very young and he doesn´t bulked up, Emir Arda Sivas already bulked up. It´s easy in highlights to go to the rim but in reality he is just decent in those situations and he benefits from his cleverness. You know who is the one and only good turkish PG in driving, his name is of course Derin Can Üstün(07). We must follow Melih Tunca(05, Efes, not pure PG but more PG as Eray Büyükcangaz, Yagiz Aksu) next season too, he has bigger potential as almost all turkish PG prospects. Mehmet Efe Demirel(05, C, Efes) was a very interesting big but after his hard knee operation he had very big problems in his comeback but he is in this U18 NT, again very bad decision from TBF because kid must work on his body. He had decent foot speed, after injury very heavy foots.

FIBA listed Berke Büyüktuncel 206 as well as Efe Tahmaz and Kerem Kuthan Konan. According to FIBA Eray Büyükcangaz has grown too and is listed 202 cm now. This is surely the tallest NT of all time.

The final Turkish roster of the U18 team.

Özgür Cengiz
Berke Büyüktuncel
Emir Arda Sivas
Karahan Tuan Efeoğlu
Eren Deniz
Yiğit Hamza Mestoğlu
Eray Büyükcangaz
Buğra Çal
Ege Tan Yıldızoğlu
Mehmet Efe Demirel
Kerem Kuthan Konan
Samet Yiğitoğlu

Most expected names on the list. I expected just the new Besiktas player Efe Tahmaz. He isnt ready for level A (more of a project for the following years) but that he couldnt make it in the final U18 roster is weird but ok. This is one of the best youth teams of all time and this team has almost everything. Especially the forward positions are thriving and also the guards can all create their shots to a certain extend. We have size and defense. The average size should be like 204cm or near.

A medal is expected and the color is more like gold.

Crazy PF rotation in this year's version of U-18 team. Both Büyüktuncel, Konan and Mestoğlu have great upsides. Even if we can promote only one of them to senior NT as a regular high-level contributor, this will save the next 15 years of senior NT in that position.

Yeah about the PF there is no need to worry although Mestoglu is worrisome I must say. The PG position is really more of a problem right now but finding just one proper guy who can control the pace, defend and make plays and we have a very decent team.

Actually there are rumors about Kerem Kuthan Konan leaving Besiktas and playing for Buducnost second team.

Actually PG is the strongest position right after PF. Sivas, Cengiz and Yıldızoğlu are more than enough for this level.

Konan, Doğan and Yiğitoğlu are all the toys of an agent. They are doing wrong. They are going/have gone to very wrong destinations. He may leave Besiktas, I don't care at all, but I would want them to join more proper basketball academies.

I wasnt talking about this level. Its time for a new Tunceri or similar impactful combo guard. One 1,2 to 1,5.

OK, just 51+ difference I expected more tbh. No, just kidding...

Ok we started very excited and our guards Emir Arda and Özgür Cengiz couldnt show much because of their excitements and lack of experience. Cengiz needs to bulk up and improve his handles. He is a good shooter but I liked Emir Arda Sivas defense a lot. He did a great great job.

The ice was broken by Eray Büyükcangaz, played very efficient and smart but he shies away when he drives to the rim. His kick out passes are good but he should have the ability to finish more at the rim.

We struggled a big due to forwards who play without the ball. Fikret Dogan saw it thanks god and turned to three guards.

Samet Yigitoglu showed today that he is one of the best maybe the best center in this tournament. I always knew that he can shoot and today he showed it once. Very mobile and when he can show some rim protection draft discussions will start

BTW I never expected Efe Demirel to be such a defender. Offensively very raw but good defender.

Ege Tan Yildizoglu was in a different dimension today. Great court vision, reading, ball pressure. He was the MVP. When he shoots like today consistently we have one more great guard.

Many kids and "scouts" without plan writing just bullshit on twitter about turkish team, just funny...... Problem is again not clear roles and not big enough roles for the most important players(most important for turkish bb in this team) like Kerem Konan, Eray Büyükcangaz. Turkish bb not only lacking talent on PG. Secondary ballhandler position is also very very thin therefore Eray Büyükcangaz is a very important prospect for turkish bb. It´s not important if he will perform bad or good in this tournament, we will see him on senior level for sure, kid has real potential.
