FIBA giving "hints" about wildcard selections

with all my heart I hope we don't get the wild card, because this whole thing is ridiculous. we simply didn't deserve it through the eurobasket, so why now try to act like we can afford the luxury of a 500 euro worth wild card? it's completely absurd. oh, and it's also true we never took the competition seriously, including myself, so let's better give a one summer rest for our players so they are fresh for the 2011 home competition, but no...

and what is the fucking point of all this spectacle? I don't know, but I guess it's again just interests of some people inside our stinky federation that are playing.

BTW, our federation president shined again, calling the fiba boards a bunch of "arabs with turbans, negros from africa, asians, who just raise their hands to confirm what's already pre-decided". bravo mr garastas, an old ignorant man, who can't even learn from his own mistakes, is ruling our basketball.. sweet...

It's nice to hear different opinion. But what exactly is Lithuanian BB is if we don't care about WC? That's actually isn't true. We just unlucky with WC. We missed the WC because of the fiasco in Eurobasket 2001 (we all know where Lithuania was in 2000 and 2003). No need to say that we were ready for that WC. Another time, in 2006 we lost our leaders, but no-one said we didn't want it to win it. And now, Jasikevičius and Kaukėnas are waiting for decision, both of them wants to play. Yes, all this thing about wildcard is a joke, but have to take a chance. And I don't see anything positive about skipping one year- for youngsters it would be much better experience than some friendly games and our old leaders (Šaras, Kaukėnas, Lavrinovič brothers won't get any younger. Actually, Šaras and Kaukėnas already skipped the NT this year. I have a good feeling about this summer if we eventually play in WC).

Lithuanian basketball federation revealed that there were 5 sponsors, which paid 500k € sum (PokerStars, Viasat, Kauno Grūdai Group, PKN Orlen and DbN Nord).

They also said that there are 14 teams, which met the financial criteria, of which 5 European: Russia, Germany, Lithuania, Great Britain and Poland.

Surprised by Poland's bid.

It seems that majority of Lithuanians don't even want a wild card, which baffles me. I thought we all loved basketball. But hey, we love hating everyone and everything even more, so let's start hating basketball too. Reading comments in delfi.lt always makes me wanna puke, but I was still shocked, when I saw that those morons (the always unhappy for unknown reasons commentators, who have nothing better to do, but comment after every article on how much they hate the government, homosexuals and the rich) don't even want Eurobaket to be held Lithuania... I wonder if internet comments can represent a general opinion in Lithuania.

So, C-ka, you think that GB or Poland deserves the wild card more and Lithuania shouldn't play in any basketball tournament next summer? Well, you always have an option not to watch the WC if you really don't care, no one is forcing it on you.

Yes, Lithuanian BB federation can't afford to pay 500k €, that's why they found private sponsors.

As for Garastas, I agree, he should have been gone long ago...

You forgot hate for Russia. :D

No, actually, these days (at least on the internet) Russia is loved much more than America. ;) But that's probably the direct result of our ex-president Adamkus and our governing conservative party being clearly anti-Russian and pro-America. And since people hate the government stronger than ever these days, they try to make they're political views as far away from our government's as possible. :)

By the way, Garastas' bullshit might hurt Lithuania's chances... I started to really despise this stupid old racist... The fact that he still manager to keep his position as president of LKF is ridiculous.

Lebanon found a sponsor and its a big Lebanese company in Turkey. They will pay the amount in order to invite us!

+ a local TV annouced their insterest to buy the rights of the Fiba World Championship in Lebanon!

oh blah blah blah Gytaz. after all, what are those 500k? :) you heard what's going on with the new sports department budget (and what catastrophic share is left for NTs and stuff like that)? and now, you think taking an NT to a WC doesn't cost enough money? I don't know where they'll get the money but I rather would've concentrated on raising money for the youth teams. Also, youth teams, just like in 2002, would've got much more public attention and that would be really nice.
So, sorry for being harsh, but you can get lost with your advices just "not to watch", cause this nonsense will cost all Lithuania lots of money, lots of trouble many other sports NTs AND will of course in one way or another be profitable for the LKKA gang there in the federation. Of course, it might somewhat slightly boost the LT economy for a week or so, but that might just end up with another national depresion. :)

I don't believe that senior NT playing in WC negatively affects the attention that youth NTs get. Even if it did, public attention does not mean better results.

As for everything else... Well, my opinion is that basketball, being the most popular sport in Lithuania and the one that we're best at, should get the major share of sports' budget.

So how much "this nonsense" (our NT playing in World championship) will cost to all Lithuania? By the way, judging by your posts, it seems that you think that we shouldn't have participated in the WC even if we got the spot by finishing 1-6th in Eurobasket ('cause that just costs too much...). Do you really think so?

You're right about economic boost during the the WC.

And, most importantly, if team Lithuania will be playing well, for most Lithuanians those moments will be worth much more than whatever the economic costs might be (and I'm waiting for your reply on how much do you think it will cost, 'cause I'm genuinely interested, though you probably don't have the answer).
