FIBA ASIA Cup Qualifiers

If based on form, I think it's Aussie, then Japan, then us, then NZ, then maybe Lebanon or China.

I only guessed the recent form of China and Lebanon by their average margin of victory and China's recent results.

And it will also depends on the line up that they will parade come August.. Who knows, China will hire naturalized player that time, or Qatar will surprise us again by shocking everybody that 4 Americans are playing in the same time...Will Kawamura and Watanabe playing next summer? We can't also discount out RHJ led Jordan team... They are tough team if he's around..

Don't also forget Jordan with RHJ is a very dangerous team.

Fiba asia oceana competition are getting higher and higher.fiba asia cup next year is very exciting.

If QMB is indeed eligible we finally have junemar replacement.

and hoping for philipps and kouame exemption.

Also Qatar... They are preparing for the world cup, they might surprise us again by getting more better recruits that they will be local... Taiwan is also dangerous too, even Guam if they surprise us by finally hiring a real coach for them... Guam have a talented players that can match up against everybody, they just need a real coach to guide them...

yes Waandenberg a forward was their center , 16 pts , 13 rebs and 6 assist. , Vodoanvich and harris sometimes played center when Sam sat, in has advantages and disadvantage , team had speed but was small..

NZ defense is bad when Brit and Corey play together ( they played 30 mins each vs Gilas)

Note Brit and Corey Webster failed to get NBL contracts this season, for context of level., reason is their lack of defense

While both don't have NBL contracts , Ili and LeAfa are NBL starters to see the contrast in current level form.

Thirdy is a good player no doubt but the problem is his shooting and handles.(he never improved in japan contrary sa sinasabi nyo) he was just already good.

Thirdy struggles in tab baldwin team when they play in King Abdullah Cup in Jordan.

Thirdy brings hussle and energy but we already have scottie and Newnew which both much much better than thirdy specially at Point Guard position.

Corey Webster with defense is basically Chris Goulding and Matthew Dellavedova. The Japanese win against a team with those 2 is still the highest achievement of a post Yao Ming Asian team imo

In terms of current team ( newly formed pool for NZ ) , Nz shouldn't be ranked high ( not top 4 ),
but if you're projecting 2 years from now , allowing for buildup of Flavel newly inherited program, Nz is projected aa uaual to be a top 3 in Asia Pacific, before people forget just recently in July OQT, NZL beat Croatia with NBA players and in last years world cup were ranked just behind Australia and Japan .
Their pipeline of young players is significant. Remember their US and Europe based league players aren't available for windows. ( easily 10 players can replace players who played vs Gilas last Thursday).
todays game had two 6'8 players U18 player Hapoi and U17 Goodman ( both still in high school)

College Div 1players- Murray , Gold , Julius and Jones
and
European based players, Wetzell, Delaney, Ngatai , Freeman
Are all potential future National team players

Thirdy struggles in tab baldwin team when they play in King Abdullah Cup in Jordan.

An international point guard should be able to make contested 3s or off the dribble mid range shots in broken plays with an fg no less than 38% and be able to capitalize on bad mismatches(ie blowing by a center on an island) at least 5 out of 10 times. Thirdy provides neither imo, though his ball handling and passing has greatly improved.

Newsome, Dwight and Perez are so much more suitable as a 1. I think Scottie's iq saves him from being a smaller and less athletic Thirdy and Oftana's size on defense is enough of an asset to not be replaced by Thirdy.

Thirdy can only matchup against the Jawatos and Grahitas of the world and there aren't that many of those player types outside of Indonesia.

was given different role by chot in a chaotic system..

abassi will be good for sure but not as good as thirdy is.. they don’t have any similarities in their game..

people are quick to conclude about thirdy being not good.. if you put him in a organised system then thirdy’s game will show up.. similar in japan and with tab..

people will remember him being who shot bricks without any checking what thirdy can do in other parts of the game..

Then why is Thirdy not in coach Tim Cone's Gilas pool either? I remember when Iskati Thompson wasn't available becoz of injury during the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, coach Tim called up an RR Pogoy instead of a Thirdy Ravena during the Gilas preparation/training. Pogoy though didn't make it to the Gilas final 12-man roster.

Because thirdy is in the middle of transaction with BC dubai and did some off season training in US..

Pogoy didnt make it to OQT is due to passport.. late to lodge..

Without an outside shot, Thirdy is below than Newsome. I am still afraid of Newsome's dribbling skills as he turns the ball over if pressured. But with a similar build and defensive capabilities, Newsome is a much better player now than Thirdy to handle the 1 or 2 spot for the team.

Gilas has firmly established itself as a solid 2nd in FIBA Asia, surpassing Japan and New Zealand. While Japan may have individual standouts like Watanabe and Rui, their only positional edge is likely at the SF spot. Guards like Yuki exploit defenders who lack commitment on defense but would struggle against a disciplined backcourt duo like Skati and NewNew.

New Zealand would need capable and defensive minded bigs. Kai’s dominance over bigs like Wetzell and Loe is well-documented, with the NZ Breakers often serving as Kai’s favorite opponents for breakout performances. Sam Menenga, while promising, lacks the size and experience to contain Kai effectively. The only NZ defender against Kai was Tyler Harrison—unless they summon "Aquaman" from the ocean depths to help out.lol

Tofu is slow and small against Kai. Flavell will opt to play small against Gilas instead of playing two bigs like last time.

Flavell did his best and he should have a way better judgement on things than analyze comments.haha

Gilas would be a different animal once Aj will be playing. Eventually, Kai will be paired with bigs that are way better defender than JMF(QMB, ANJ,AJ).

Newsome’s handles and 3 pt shooting are not ideal but from what I remember are still much better than Thirdys. He is also a better defender IMO. Newsome is actually our best guard/ small wing defender.

Qatar so talented roster wise yet so disorganized offensovely, at least they do effort on defense but still so much potential with proper coaching and conditioning

Nothing to be ashamed for Iran.. they played against 2 world imports, but yet they can able to hang on and almost won the game... Qatar will be disappointment if they lose that game..

Two things in the Qatar-Iran game:
First, Iran is no longer the same strong team as during the Haddadi-Bahrami era.
Second, Qatar has sugnificantly improved mainly becoz of the presence of 2 world imports.

Current Iran team is on rebuilding stage so we can't expect much from it as of now. But it has a No. of promising young players so in 2 to 3 years we can expect the team to significantly improve. But I don't think Iran will be among the top 5 teams in Asia-Oceania in 2 to 3 years time.

For Qatar, I think the team looks good with 2 world imports in tow, but I don't think Qatar will make it to the top 8 teams in Asia-Oceania in the next 4 years.
