Is Taiwan's afro 6-foot-2 guard Mohammed Bachir Gadiaga a. k. a. "Abassi" the kind of player most of us envisioned Thirdy Ravena would become when he reaches his prime? Thirdy actually is already in his prime right now but he doesn't come close to where Abassi is right now.

I feel Abassi is going to be Taiwan's difference maker. Wala pa nga dyan yung mga Hinton bros who are 6-foot-4/6-foot-5 wingmen with good handles, shooting & athleticism.

far from it.. they have different games and thirdy is much better than abassi

How would you rank this team in Asia Oceania?

1. Aus
2.
3.
4.
5.

If based on form, I think it's Aussie, then Japan, then us, then NZ, then maybe Lebanon or China.

I only guessed the recent form of China and Lebanon by their average margin of victory and China's recent results.

With the way Gilas is playing since OQT , they are 2nd tier world cup team already, equivalent to 2nd tier Americas team

Gilas needs to sustain the momentum it is gaining right now.

The issue, I think, that Gilas needs to face is to ready the replacement of some of the older players.

Brownlee is getting old
Newsome is getting old
Japeth should have been retired
June Mar is getting old

To those who believe that Gilas is now at the top 5 teams in Asia-Oceania, who do U think are the 4 other teams? Take note, I'm talking about full force, complete & well prepared teams.

Of course I expect Australia is the hands down choice as the No.1 team. Who are the other 3?
Me thinks the other 3 teams (in no particular order) are New Zealand, Lebanon & Japan. While Jordan & China aren't in my top 5, I strongly believe that they are not far behind Lebanon, New Zealand, Japan & Gilas.

Caelum Harris should be trained for Newsome's role
Amos/Edu is already there for Japeth
QMB?(giant fkin question mark here) for June Mar, if Edu doesn't get batter I'd rather they tap another pinoy kid like Gagate, Demisana for this position rather than import one
after Brownlee they should get a naturalized of the exact same position and offerings(a non dominant but extremely reliable wing)

I really don't wanna see an asa kay Blatche system ever again

Jordan Lebanon China Aus ofc, Japan is considerably weaker without their NBA players

Don't also forget Jordan with RHJ is a very dangerous team.

Fiba asia oceana competition are getting higher and higher.fiba asia cup next year is very exciting.

If QMB is indeed eligible we finally have junemar replacement.

and hoping for philipps and kouame exemption.

yes.. much better defender.. and has a better numbers in b.league than him..

has a statline of 23 pts 5 rebounds and 5 assists vs nzl before..

Sorry to disagree bro.

The 23 pts that Thirdy registered against NZ in 2022 is just one game. He didn't score that much again against a quality opponent. How did he play in the other window qualifiers & of course the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup tournament proper? He was a disappointment in that tournament & obviously did not live up to most Pinoys' expectations?

I think Abassi has the makings of a quality 2-guard in Asian basketball.

A Chinese and Korean team with good chemistry remains dangerous, so is this exact same New Zealand team with at least 2 weeks practice. Japan is overrated tbh and I'm not particularly concerned about Jordan either and I do think Lebanon will find a way to screw their own team up, I think their victory against Chot with Kai and JC is a total fluke. The current generation of China, Korea, Japan, New Zealand and the Philippines is a total wildcard, China and Korea imo got naturally worse because of rebuilds.

Just me , for Gilas I like the competition provided by the likes of Cambodia and Qatar using "questionable eligible players ' competition is always good, we should be at peace with just doing things our way, regardless if rival countries take advantage of the rules.

Are we really so paranoid with Qatar and Cambodia? Really now

Fairness of the rules we are talking about... Let's say we are not affected what they are doing since we can beat them anytime.. How about those low ranked teams that they are playing fair but can't give any favors by FIBA? Example is Vietnam, there are many Viet-ams already doing residency for so long but only Justin Young granted exemption.. others are not despite they played in their domestic league, doing residency for so long and have vietnamese blood.. Chris Dierker should be granted local exemption already... He is already there since 2016...

In football, eligibility rules are very simple, just having blood connections within the country then they are eligible as local...

Not siding with anyone. Just looking for possible reasons for his exemption.

That is not the reason... That was only personal charity agenda in Qatar, but not connected within his reason to be exempted as local... Even Jeremy Lin having charities in Taiwan but he didn't get any possible exemption cases...

Taiwan is going to get even stronger with the Hinton brothers. Hindi naman sa pagmamayabang but, seeing this team play in last year & this year's editions of Jones Cup, I predicted Taiwan's significant improvement with the entry of Mohammed Bachir Gadiaga a. k. a. "Abassi", Benson Lin & other young players. Moreso when the Hinton bros would finally suit up for Taiwan in FIBA games.

Are they eligible (Hinton Bros)?

Is Gilas a top 5 team in Asia-Oceania?

Take note: this is a question, not a statement.

You will find the answer after August 2025... I'm sure teams like Lebanon, Jordan, China, Iran, etc... will give Gilas a hard time... The purpose of those qualifier games are for qualifications for main tournament in August... Hard to gauge it.. Japan having hard time vs Guam and that means Japan is weaker now?

was given different role by chot in a chaotic system..

abassi will be good for sure but not as good as thirdy is.. they don’t have any similarities in their game..

people are quick to conclude about thirdy being not good.. if you put him in a organised system then thirdy’s game will show up.. similar in japan and with tab..

people will remember him being who shot bricks without any checking what thirdy can do in other parts of the game..
