If we look at our team, it's the positions 3 & 4 who are our main source of 3-pt shooting (Dwight Ramos, Quiambao, Brownlee & Tamayo). Our guards (Thompson, Newsome & Perez) on the other hand may hit 3's from time to time but they are not really natural shooters na talagang maasahan mo palagi to hit the 3's.
HK minus Duncan Reid is a pretty small team. Many of the things shown here are not transferable against other teams. Good 3 pt shooting of forwards will be harder against taller forwards. We need Heading as he has shown he can shoot against higher competition. He probably couldve gotten a slot in B league if he wanted but he seems focused on playing locally to have a better chance to play for the flag. Hope Chua doesnt get in the way.

Interesting is NZ added their top player Shea Ili for tomorrow's game
Flavel has been giving exposure to new players to the program , for future purposes

To give an indication of how new , NZ team to FIBA was , the 5 starters (Brit, Corey, Brown , Waardenberg, Harrison)combined minutes for the whole World cup last year over 5 games was a total of less than 5 minutes

New Zealand clearly values Corey’s scoring more than anything Ili brings to the table. Without Corey, they’d struggle significantly against Gilas. Plus, you can't effectively trap Gilas' guards—trapping only works against lower-tier teams.

Gilas' young guns even held their own against Serbia and almost secured a win. It was an indication of the strength of Kai's batch. The new additions in NZ NT are already mid 20s and they arent young. They are currently the best that NZ could offer as evident by them being NBL starters. Don’t worry, you’ll get another shot come February.hahaha

Coach Tim Cone system is kinda focused on Bigs. (which I like to maximize Kai and AJ)

Looking at our lineup. I like the Size, Length, and Versatility of players.

I think Coach Tim Went for Versatility instead of Specialization.

Having said that, we can use at least one 3pt specialist in our team.

But our Gilas is playing well in the Windows since Coach Tim took over.

I have a feeling Calvin might be on a hot spot, hes been always subbed off for making mistakes by Cone.. heres hoping Navarro gets a look

I'm beginning to dislike Oftana. He reminds me of Matthew Wright as far as FIBA performance is concerned.
Oftana hasn't hit shots he normally makes in the PBA. To think that he is known as a dead shot in the PBA. Chris Newsome isn't really that good in 3pt shooting yet playing for Gilas, Newsome has shot better from 3pt than Oftana.

I think it's mainly due to his jump shot form and mechanics. He raises his arm too slow when shooting. Someone should show him Lakers Knect & 76ers Mccain (part filo btw) shooting form.

Agreed. The NBA's defensive three-second violation heavily favors offensive players and inflated NBA game scores. The other thing that turned me off about the NBA was when the Lakers drafted Bronny, which screams nepotism from a mile away. So the NBA is telling us that 6'1 Lebron Jr. with a mediocre college career is worthy of being picked over a 7'3 Asian kid who has a basktball IQ and can shoot and defend? Are we gonna see more of these second-generation NBA players getting drafted because of their dads' reputation instead of their actual basketball skills?

The NBA’s popularity will continue to decline unless drastic changes are made, particularly in improving defensive rules. Their struggles will be further magnified if they lose in the next Olympics, which is increasingly possible. Without Durant, LeBron, and Steph, the U.S. team becomes highly vulnerable, especially with their lack of dominant big men to control the paint.

As for Kai, his streak of bad luck can be traced back to the Ignite debacle. Despite that, I still believe he’ll eventually play in the NBA. Right now, he’s a red flag for NBA front offices, which is likely why Wasserman was brought in to mend those issues. I’m no longer in a rush for Kai’s NBA debut. I’m content watching his steady progress as he develops toward his peak and solidifies his position as the premier big man in Asia-Oceania.

A game that would draw much of my interest would be the New Zealand-Chinese Taipei game tomorrow afternoon. Chinese Taipei's roster in this 2nd window is significantly stronger than the one it had in the 1st window. Current CT team is bannered by 6-foot-2 guard sensation Mohammed Bashir Gadiaga a. k. a. "Abassi", 6-foot-3 combo guard Benson Lin & a new naturalized player who is 6-foot-11 center. Then CT got a number veteran national team players back to the team.

CT routed Hongkong a couple of days ago but we all know Hongkong is a weak team. It would be interesting how the Taiwanese match up against a strong & quality team like New Zealand.

I predict NZ to win by 14 pts. I feel NZ's size & physicality would give them a good edge over CT.

I think the Iran vs Qatar game is more exciting to watch than that ... Let's see if the 2 Americans of Qatar can beat the established powerhouse in Asian basketball Iran...

I think that they should apply Diagne for exemption or clearance since he has an Indonesian passport at age 15. The kid looks promising.

Thailand is using 6'8 Bruenig and 6'8 Jakrawan at the same time. Vincent has no help since Guntara is only 6'5.

I'm sure they will come back stronger in next cycle of Fiba Asia cup qualifiers for 2029... First thing they should lock up the services of Bolden.. he should be their main naturalized player... They can just ask Mr. Thotir for his assurance.. I think also Bolden should explore his talent overseas and forget that NBA dream.. I would love to see him playing in the PBA soon.. they have also DMX would like be a B league guy in next qualifiers... DMX will be a mainstay for B league just like Edu, Ramos and Kai... And correct, they should work Diagne's exemption in near future...

Thailand looks promising and with Morgan and Lamb will play next windows, they can fear some teams.. but they have to explore more experience playing much tougher competitions.. they are look good vs weak teams but they stumble if they played contender teams.. Guam vs Thailand in the final slot of eastern region of Fiba Asia cup will be exciting..

Bruenig vs Galloway
Lamb vs Cruz
Lish vs Ross
Jakrawan vs Washington
Morgan vs Wesley

In terms of line up, they are actually even.. Guam's biggest advantage will be their experience... They are more seasoned team when the game is on the line vs Thailand...

They really need to upgrade 2 of those 3 to a combo or another pure shooting guard,CTC system doesn't really need a pure pg and majority of the players in this team can score on their own or make their own shots.

Oftana is supposedly among the natural shooters of the team but he has struggled throughout his stint with Gilas. Guys like Tamayo & Quiambao have shot better from 3 compared to Oftana.

I think in the next window CTC may just probably make one or two changes to his recent Gilas squad. He value more on chemistry and if I am him just like many posters here suggested I will phone Heading…

Ultimate memem moment, because of affinity by blood, Tobias harris is also a local qatari. Yikes

Very important for NZ is if one of their top centers ( Wetzell, Manenga or even Fotu are available. ) they need the rebounding and inside scoring presence to match with Gilas size , which was absent last Thursday.
Head of the snake , Shea Ili is also really important for NZ competitiveness.
And more experience defender vs Brownlee ( TeRangi, Delaney)

The positive for NZ this window, is the introduction of new FIBA National team players ( their 1st meaningful minutes)

For NZL they really need to be giving exposure to Corey Webster replacement. The only NZ eligible player I see who can replace Corey next yeae , is NBA draftee Mojave King.

Recall telling Gilas staff last March, with the current transition period of Tall Blacks, i think Gilas will beat them this window. True enough prediction came true

If Qatar ia using contribution to the growth to basketball in Qatar as reason ( investing in camps etc and bringing the NBA to Qatar), , then that would be like if Clarkson was based in Philippines and led player development for the SBP.

Contribution to Advancement of basketball is actually in the FIBA guidelines as one of the reasons for exceptions
