That was not a rebuild but NZ upgrading its roster. That goldman would be comparable to Amos but wont get minutes. The coach was recently installed HC but was not a new Nz coach. He is like tim who was always around gilas as an assistant. Cameron already played snr nt also i think waardenburg.

The reason Tim Cone is sticking to his original 12 players is because the triangle offense is a notoriously difficult system to learn. Even NBA players need at least two seasons to master the system. This is also the reason why very few teams employ the triangle system in its purest form.

True .. that's why we have to trust CTC's system... And if CTC will add players, only possible players are those players who already played with him either Ginebra or Gilas.. The only possible additions will likely Tolentino, RJ and Go.. that's it... Forget the likes of Heading, Baltazar, Parks, etc... if CTC wants them, he already take all of them since day 1 of CTC's appointment...

Arvin's a good shooter, but he's only a feasible addition if we have either of Kai and AJ in the lineup so we have someone to clean up after him, and/or Oftana and Malonzo prove to be competent defending the 3. Arvin's a defensive liability in the perimeter as a 3 (which is an important defensive position). At least Oftana is good at rotating to shooters, and can stay in front a bit (though he did allow a few blow-bys in the Ginebra series, but I can count them on one hand; I saw few plays where he was involved on defense).

RJ, no questions, he's fine for now. Good shooter, and has court vision, just has to be better in making decisions. He's already shown flashes in 2021, but he'll need to elevate his play from now on, and be more consistent.

There's already an age factor. June Mar turns 35 next Sunday. Newsome's 34. JB's 36. We'll need someone to succeed them, because they could near retirement from the NT. Replacements will be inevitable. We will have to call up new guys, question is will they be short-term players or long-term additions. But on the other hand, we have a group of players born 1996 and later, so we have players for the long-term. Oftana and Malonzo are 28, Dwight's 26, AJ's 24, Carl and Quiambao are 23, and Kai's 22. So, veterans can do, so long as they can already contribute and have had a good track record.

And I feel that we're a bit dependent on Kai, AJ, and JB, especially on defense, and on JB for shot creation. How do we make sure the team doesn't fall apart defensively after JB's retirement when neither of AJ and Kai are on the floor? Scheme can only do so much without the necessary players to execute it. And then the shot creator when the system breaks down. Will we train our locals to create, or will we again rely on the NP, like we did with Blatche, JC, and JB?

With more reason that coach Tim needs to add a few players (say 2 to 3 players) to his current pool of 14 players ASAP. As we can see we have 4 players - Japeth, Junmar, Newsome & JB who are going to retire from Gilas soon. While JB already has a replacement in Bennie Boatwright whose naturalization papers are already in Congress, coach Tim needs to find possible replacements for Japeth, Junmar & Newsome. And these possible replacements should be integrated to the program ASAP. Kasi Japeth, Junmar, Newsone & JB probably would retire from Gilas after next year's FIBA Asia Cup. Should we wait for these ageing players to retire at saka pa lang natin e integrate yung mga replacements nila to the Gilas program? As you've said, it takes time for players to learn, grasp & get used to the triangle offense of coach Tim Cone. Remember that right after the FIBA Asia Cup, coach Tim has to deal with the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

My point here is, we need to immerse ASAP to the Gilas program yung mga possible replacements of Junmar, Newsome, Japeth so that by the time Junmar & company retire from Gilas, their replacements have already learned, grasped, familiarized & assimilated themselves with coach Tim's system. Hindi na sila mangangapa sa triangle offense & nagje jell na sila sa mga teammates nila.

the importance of team b comes to play.. but our NT coach is too stubborn..

Now that you mention Bennie, we need to be selective as to who replaces June Mar and Newsome. As I pointed out repeatedly in this forum, Bennie's defense is a weak point. He can rotate, but his interior defense was suspect in the PBA. So, we need the scheme and personnel to hide him and limit his responsibility on that end.

As a general rule, he needs at least one of Kai and AJ alongside him, or at least a big who can defend the interior. If no defensive big is in the lineup while Bennie's on the floor, the 1-3 has to be good enough defensively to be able to limit dribble penetration. So if Bennie is going to be our next NP, we need a good defensive big and/or a good defensive wing. They may come from within the 12-man lineup (Malonzo or Oftana as defensive wings), or as the successors to June Mar and Newsome.

CTC is a multi-titled coach and I'm sure he knows he needs new players to integrate into the system. June Mar, Brownlee, and Japeth are all generational talent-level players whose experience and skill set couldn't be easily replaced. That's probably one of the reasons why he simply couldn't afford to get random to players to be part of his system. CTC knows how the big backlash is if he fails, so he's trying to win as much possible now by playing his old reliables.

Ange, Phillips, and QMB getting exemptions actually solves all of that.

Peste naman kasi yang mga EASL games na yan eh! The Meralco & SMB scheduled games on Nov. 13 should have been reset. Gilas practice should start Nov. 13 so that Gilas would train for 8 days (instead of 6 days) prior to its big game vs. New Zealand. Yung 2 days na additional training sana ng Gilas, malaking bagay yun eh especially with the very limited time of preparation.

Gilas should really test some new and other pool members this November window, you can't be relying on just 11 players especially with the inevitable that some will retire soon

Some forward long term planning is in order

When Newsome retires, we lose a key point of attack defender at the guard spot. When June Mar retires, we lose a big who can score inside and rebound. When JB retires, we lose a playmaker, our go-to-guy, one of our key shooters, and a key defender at the 3 and 4 spots.

On top of that, we'll need a few more of these:

- A 3 who can stay in front of his man, or at the very least prevent dribble penetration (hope Oftana and Malonzo become this, otherwise we need a good defender at 3)
- An extra interior defender in case either of Kai and AJ cannot play in a big window or a big tournament
- Shooting (hope Carl, CJ, Oftana, Dwight, and Malonzo can fill these)
- Maybe another initiator of the offense (someone who can bring the ball up in a press and make the first pass)

as much as we want to request for the expansion of the pool because of so many factors that keeps on popping every now and then

specifically towards the player's physical health being.

we all know "CTC is CTC" and he already mentioned his stand on why he choose a tight pool.

for now let's just watch and see until the end of LA 2027 if ever the current Gilas version qualifies.

It ain't surprising no more names like Jordan Heading, Benny Boatwright being added for that specific timeline

it's all over the news

for now let those current ineligibles establishes the necessary domestic merits.

2030 is the ideal timeframe for them whether we like it or not

not now unless another revision has been done to the current handbook.

that's another storyline that is a worth a discussion.

It's a good thing that the PBA guys have played and trained together since last year's Asiad, then. The current pool has played and trained together since before the February 2024 window.

Chemistry makes up for short training time. I hope it does in this case.

Yes bro, I agree with U, I think chemistry or cohesion wise, Gilas is already OK. But it takes some time rin kasi to somewhat refresh such chemistry or cohesion. Remember that current Gilas players are coming from different teams or should I say different leagues. They need some sort of refresher & that process will take some time.

I just think CTC retires after 2027 or 2028 at most. Then rebuilding again, unless the successor is someone like LA who might continue the triangle.

That’s what they were going for since the beginning as far as I can tell.

The SBP and the PBA know they can’t afford to have a long training camp without compromising PBA games (revenue) and players also come from different leagues.

The window format only has two games, so you don’t really need a long preparation unless your team is back to square one with no players carrying over previously.

CTC’s insistence on a smaller 12 man core works for the window format.

Tournament format? They need to establish the chemistry during the windows then have the final 2-3 week boot camp prior to a big tournament like the Asia Cup.
