To be fair, Qatar has to prove to all that they are deserve to be part of FIBA WC 2027 as host country in that spot... If they will not perform well, They will be like Indonesia, Hosting the tourney but not qualified... They have to prove something... But Iran needs to hire Naturalized player... I know they value their local player but they have to upgrade their talents...

I see why Mousa is an nba prospect, 6'8 wing doesn't seem to have jitters

How was the ball handling? From the highlights I saw it was mainly triangle with cutting and no dribbling. We got in trouble with the zone and Cone put Scortie off all people in the FT spot to break rhe zone.

To me we were more athletic and taller than HK from 1 to 5. I have never seen a team succeed in Fiba without dribbling in the half court set. Yes they have a lot of off ball motion but even Germany needed Schroder to break down defenses. We have a long way to go but I suspect this triangle offense of pure cuts and no dribbling will be stymied by the bigger better teams. Im curious to see what TCs adjustment will be.

it's instilling good habits, right now they're just working on the basics of the system which I believe one of the coaches said in an interview

He played several years in Syria… he just do residency for some years… So it counts…

Okay if we look on his ball background, he only played in syria in 2023..

Because he has Syrian origin… Just like Newsome, Slaughter, Lassiter that is also same half breeds like him… FIBA give them quick pass because like Bahamas, they are developing country in basketball… SBP can apply now the status of Philips bros and Kai Ballungay, since reside here for 3 years or more… but we all know SBP and PBA will not do that because it means they will be eligible to play in the B league as Asian import… PBA doesn’t want to lose more players overseas…

Did Iran play a bad game or Qatar just played a good game? Iran was impressive in last year's Asian Games. Despite a depleted line up in last year's Asian Games, Iran almost beat Gilas.

Qatar I think is improving since its a team with so many young players. It has a No. of teenage players & the other players are just in the early & mid-20's.

Taiwan just played a high-intensity game against the Kiwis. Gilas can not afford to be over-confident. With our thin front line, a few foul trouble situations can drastically affect the game.

Qatar is the host for 2027 WC.. they need to be competitive if they want to have a slot as host… their rankings is not enough yet, that is the reason Qatar doing all they can do to be competitive..

Iran is in the "back-to-the-drawing-board" situation with their golden generation completely gone (Haddadi, Bahrami, Sahakian, Afagh, Kamrani).

I believe that we can add Iran now in the list of teams that we can beat.

That's the downside of having a long-term solid core team (of mostly vets) without a B team being developed in parallel.

Our batch of players in the 20 yrs old and below (plus Kai, Edu, Tamayo and KQ) have a lot of promising players, and looks to have a much higher upside than the current team. I would dare say they can possibly be our golden generation. We shouldn't wait until 2027 before we start developing that team.

Still don’t underestimate them… they still competitive even they are rebuilding… record shows in their last 3 games of Iran w/o Haddadi and Bahrami vs Gilas… Iran won twice there… we lost to them both games in Asian WC qualifiers last 2018 (81-73) and (70-78) while we just won a point only last Asian games (82-81) with 2 naturalized players on the floor… this is also the Iranian team that has Korean numbers… remember we are always worried to Korea while Iran easily beats this team, If Korea will choose opponent, they will pick Iran as their last opponent, because they can’t solve Iranian size, while Korea will choose Gilas in their priority opponent because they have answer whatever we bring to them… Their size is still a problem for us… last Asian games, we have problems against them in size especially in wing positions… their wings are not just tall and fast, but also skilled and buff… If not for Brownlee’s shot, we choke to them in that match…
