And no Lin Tingqian a. k. a. "Benson Lin" as well. Artino, Abbasi & Benson Lin are for me Taiwan's top 3 players at present. Also absent are Taiwanese veteran national players Chen Ying-Chun, Liu Cheng, Hu Long-Mao, & Chou Yi-Hsiang.

Maybe they accept that their best possible finish will be 3rd in our group… just beat Hong Kong then focus on the next round of qualifiers for all 3rd placed teams in every group… then they will go all out for remaining slots against Guam and Indonesia/Thailand… but a full force Guam and Indonesia is not guarantee win for Taiwan… both are tough when complete…they just narrowly escape vs Guam in their final qualification for Asia cup.. it will be different if Cruz, Ross and Washington played that match…

My concern in this 1st window is that both games will be boring. Boring in the sense that Gilas would hardly encounter any resistance from both Hong-Kong & Chinese Taipei. While we want to win, the wins will have bearings if we get thenm over oppositions that can give us good competition kahit papano. The way I see it, we'll beat Hong-Kong & Taiwan by an average margin of 30+ pts.

I don't want to just jinx our team but I can't see us losing to them. The only question is how bad we're going to beat them. Japeth and Kai are going to look like Usain Bolt against Duncan Reid. And they're going to make the Taiwanese bigs look like kids. This will be a clinic. I just hope we don't go all out to avoid injuries

Actually I’m looking for other games outside Gilas this window:

Indonesia vs Thailand
Japan vs China
Japan vs Guam
Guam vs Mongolia
Saudi Arabia vs Iraq
Saudi Arabia vs Jordan
Iran vs Qatar
Kazakstan vs Qatar
Iraq vs Palestine
India vs Kazakhstan
Bahrain vs UAE
UAE vs Syria
Lebanon vs Bahrain

those match ups likely go into distance or atleast competitive match.. if you are truly a FIBA basketball fan, this is a worth watching (maybe better than the recent NBA all star game)….

even with Taipei at full strength i wasn't really worried

10 years ago (2013-2014), Gilas and Taiwan in basketball are in equal strength… they beat us at home in FIBA Asia championship… Taiwan also beat mighty China in the QF and settled for 4th place, the highest position Taiwan got since 1960s… after that, Taiwan was on their downfall since then… they didn’t develop the successors for Lin Chie Chien (their star scorer), Tseng Wen Ting (big man w/ long hair), and their 2013 cast… no one in their current pool can match their legacies in Taiwan… I was surprised because Basketball in Taiwan is very huge… this is their 2nd sport after Baseball, when they beat China in 2013, the whole country rejoiced like they were already champions (since they have political rivalry with China)… I don’t want one day even Indonesia or Thailand beat them because of their management failure… they still have talent but they have to replace all of those people in their federation… they killing the development of basketball in Taiwan and cost of Taiwanese people to lose interest in the sport of basketball…

Gilas has a history of playing to their opponent’s level. I hope both opposing squads offer some kind of resistance before succumbing to the overwhelming disparity in talent.

Needless to say, this window serves no more than a test of character for our team. Do we pounce early and relentlessly and show discipline all throughout? Or do we “play with our foods” and simply go in there for the show? I hope it’s the former even if it means a boring game. Develop winning habits rather than a penchant for showmanship.

But tim cone teams since 2019 sea games he really consistent on pouncing teams that we are ahead of.. even iran when we had a slight edge last asiad we even led up to 20 plus.. so that might be a good test for us where we experience meldowns or periods of adversity like that but i doubt the hk and taipei rosters are capable of pulling that.. maybe can pull a thailand in 2023 asiad

Just avoid any injuries then I’m ok with that… sometimes non crucial games are those situation injuries happens… Just take care and play avoid injuries…

This is my projected rotation:

1st 5:
C Kai
PF JB
SF Dwight
SG CJ
PG Scottie

2nd 5
C Jap
PF Jamie
SF Oftana
SG KQ?
PG Newsome

3rd
C Tamayo

On the first look, we lack high FG 3 pt shooting. There is no high 3FG shooter in the roster. KQ is still a big question mark here. In the drills that I saw, Dwight would need to hit a high rate in the corner.

I think this is a glaring weakness. Even Tab had heading. Even though he preferred taller defensive lineups, Heading was an important player for him for spacing.

That means Oftana, JB, Jamie, and Carl will have to be ready to shoot. They're the best shooters we have right now. Jamie shot well for one window, let's see if he can replicate that in this window and future FIBA games.

Oftana will be in the starting unit.. he is the main SF of CTC last Asian Games... Ramos will play SG.... CJ Perez will be off the bench... He's also the 6th man last Asian games run of CTC.... Remember Oftana is the 1st pick of CTC when he was picked as HC of Gilas...

what are your predictions for tomorrow's games? here's mine:

australia - korea by 20
thailand - indonesia by 10
new zealand - taipei by 30
hong kong - philippines by 40
guam - japan by 15
china - mongolia by 35

australia over korea

australia, obviously, is taller and more physical. in terms skills, the boomers got it. in terms, boomers has it as well.

indonesia over thailand

in terms quality of local talents, thailand and indonesia are almost equal. however, thailand does not have a personnel to match lester prosper.

new zealand over taipei

this obvious - new zealand is way better than taipei.

philippines over hong kong

like the new zealand-taipei, the philippines is way way stronger than hong kong.

japan over guam

guam has the size and can play physical. the team is also not short of skilled and talented players. however, japan is equal in size, a bit better than guam in terms of skills and, most of all, has a very good system. guam has yet to play a quality ASIAN team. the closest was against Taipei and this team is not even in the top 10 in asia. tomorrow, guam will be up against a top asian team in japan.

china over mongolia

obviously, china is way superior over mongolia.
