We have Brownlee, Junmar, Oftana, Perez, Newsome, Iskati as holdovers from the Asian Games team. Then you got Kai, Tamayo, Dwight R, Quiambao & Malonzo as players who weren't in the Asian Games team. While the Asian Games holdovers will carry over the chemistry & cohesion they have achieved playing in the Asiad, the entry of new players - Kai, Tamayo, Oftana, Dwight & Quiambao, could somewhat stir the team's established cohesion & chemistry from the Asiad, especially since the team will only have about 7 days of training before its 1st game.
Good thing, its just Hongkong & Taiwan whom we will be facing in the 1st window. I'm confident we'll easily beat Hongkong, but I think we can't overlook Taiwan. I feel Taiwan won't be an easy opponent for us.
Cone is fast tracking preps for oqt, he is using this window as prep period for oqt..Thats why he already named his final 12t this window and he is really looking forward in 2025 asia up in this lineup unless he sees some updgrade needed to be made along the way.

it doesnt have to be better compared to the WC. it just needs to be better than HK and Taiwan. i'll take CTC word to the T until we see something different from what he is saying. and his current stance is each game they play, should be used to make them better for the next game. so comparing it to WC would be making a wrong assumption. lets look at it as a new team and each game as a pickup\practice game, to be better for the next game. I dont know if we have games in between the 1st window and the OQT though.
What's his coaching style? Are we about to see a Chinese-Taipei team that plays similarly to how KNT does, with the crisp passing and constant ball screens to free up shooters?

Is anybody legitimately concerned about these FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers? On paper and without the bullshit excuses SBP had before, I think Gilas will go 4-2 and secures the automatic slot for the FIBA Asia Cup on the 5th game (Feb 20 next year)
Although very unlikely, an upset loss to HK rips the entire program apart even before talking about how to proceed with the OQT in July. Heads will roll and that might include Tim Cone.
Losing to TPE at the Ultra is a possibility (they've done it before at MoA, also go back to when Kazakhstan came from behind), but we go by +/- and if worse comes to worst and are tied 3-3 with them after the last window next year... not the end of the world if they need to finish at least 4th agaisnt other 3rd-placers a few weeks before the FIBA Asia Cup, but that will be a scheduling nightmare with a busy 2025 that will have the first window of World Cup Qualifying.

Sir, the comparison isn't the 2023 World Cup Gilas with the current Tim Cone-mentored Gilas. Its the 2023 Asian Games gold medalist Gilas team & the current Gilas bound for the 1st window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers that I'm comparing. I prefer the latter than the former becoz Gilas Asian Games & current Gilas are/were both handled by Tim Cone while the World Cup Gilas was handled by coach Chot Reyes. Also, the World Cup Gilas had Clarkson as its naturalized player while the Asian Games Gilas & the current Gilas has Justine Brownlee as its naturalized player.
Taiwan will be dangerous in about 3-5 years. Fortunately, they're still several years from that form.
