So the depth chart will be:

PG - Scottie (main PG) , Newsome , Perez (combo guard at most)

SG - Ramos , Oftana

SF - Quiambao , Brownlee (can play PF too)

PF - Malonzo (can play SF) , Tamayo

C - Edu (can play PF) , Junmar , Kai

Good line up, most players were picked can play multiple positions, can defend and not disadvantage in height... Although we need shooters... I hope Heading will be included in the pool...

I think Dwight is the third PG in case of injury.

take Malonzo out and put Balti in,who's more motivated for a higher competition, for backup PG put Heading in he's combo guard,if Navarro not hurt him or Lopez partnered with KQ,Angelo over the undersized Brownlee,Edu and backup Kai or JMF.

Arent everyone aware that we might have 10 players for feb window? Edu still recovering and brownlee still questionable. And cone only announce 12?

Really We're off to a good start with this..

The term “core” itself mean the 12 players named are a must but I think they can be alterations in case of injuries and unavailability.

Malonzo is also injured i think?

I'm not mad at the lineup, I'm disappointed that it's just 12 guys they picked instead of maybe 16 in case of last-minute curveballs on availability as if they're already looking at the OQT's and treating the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers as a glorified tune-up.

This is where I doubt the SBP already has a permanent coach for the program and even a pool for the cycle. It's basically a remix of the Asian Games with a few more current players. Do I seriously believe JB will still be there in 2027 after FIBA Asia when he'll be 38 and JMF will be 37? Of course not. CTC looks lke this cycle's Mark Dickel for now.

Without that permanent coach and expanded pool, the problem are those World Cup qualifying windows early in 2025 where they're looking at those must-win games, depending on the draw, now that Korea is back and teams like Indoneisa, Taipei, Thailand, Mongolia, and Guam (if at full-strength) are capable of winning their home games.

So our tentative 12 this February will be the following:

C Kai - 7'2
C Edu - 6'10 (?)
C June Mar - 6'10
F Tamayo - 6'7
F Brownlee - 6'6 (?)
F Quiambao - 6'5
F Oftana - 6'5
F Malonzo - 6'5 (?)
F/G Dwight - 6'4
G CJ Perez - 6'2
G Newsome - 6'2
G Scottie - 6'1

With bigs like Kai and June Mar plus his players Malonzo, Brownlee and Scottie, looks like this Gilas will go slow-pace, halfcourt game.

Pretty tall team but looks slow and a little old.

I think that Tim Cone is envisioning KQ and Tamayo as the second coming of Bong Hawkins and Poch Juinio while Oftana and Dwight will be his Jolas and Duremdes.

I think Malonzo and Edu will be a no go for next month so I expect they would name replacement players soon. Even Brownlee is questionable since FIBA hasnt announced their ruling regarding the issue during the Asian games.

I'd rather just replace Brownlee with Ange if he's available to cover for Aj since it's still unclear if he'll be allowed to play and just get Balti to replace Malonzo. Gives us someone who could play all frontcourt positions. Maybe they don't want to deal with Delta cause that makes too much sense.

Ange for Edu

Lopez for Malonzo

Heading for Brownlee

CTC said this is the core until 2027… but he also said that he will tap some players in case of injuries or unavailability of some players… maybe he will add players who are already familiar in his system (Tolentino, Kouame, Romeo)

Yep. Bunch of old people that contradicts what sbp said that they wont recruit 33 years old and above players..

he's aware that edu is injured and brownlee is uncertain he should add more instead of sticking it.

CTC’s plan is until 2027 (or 2028 if qualifies for LA Olympics), So he doesn’t time ample time to get more young players… like you, I want young players for future tournaments but we also know that CTC doesn’t trust too much on young players unless they are very talented such as Edu, Kai, Tamayo and Quiambao… if you look at the age range of his players, they are not probably old as you think…

Brownlee is oldest at 35
Fajardo (34)
Newsome (33)
Perez (30)
Thompson (30)
Oftana (28)
Malonzo (27)
Ramos (25)
Edu (24)
Quiambao (22)
Tamayo (22)
Sotto (21) is the youngest

this is good actually, mixture of young and veteran players… we already saw in Gilas 1 of Toroman that all young crew is not enough because having veterans is a must, and atleast we have the likes of Oftana, Malonzo, Edu, Kai, Ramos, Tamayo and Quiambao that can be the core until 2031… looking at the big picture, this is probably the best program that CTC/ Gilas era of SBP did…

Plus 4 years they'll be 39, 38 and 37.. point is it contradicts what dy said about they wont get any players 33 and above..

I share your concern with this one. We will need the supplementary players, not just the core.

Only 5 players are 30 or above guys… after 2027, they have their replacements already in their spots… atleast those players who are younger will continue and will teach the next batch of players from 2028-2031 cycle… this is normal bro, even other countries doing the same thing… but still hoping for atleast 3 additional players, in case of injuries or unavailability of some players, atleast the replacements will be always there…

They are not looking for OQT, these qualifiers and OQT will be part of their preparations for 2027… don’t expect CTC will go all out at OQT in July…

How would you guys evaluate Newsome on his last stint? Is he a really better option than Bolick or Parks or any of the Ravena Bros?
