Up to now I still can't think of any reason what made FIBA decide to declare Tyler Harris as a Qatari local player. Obviously such development gives the Qatar national team a huge boost. Imagine Qatar can field 2 world imports at the same time. They can play either a Mike Lewis or a Donte Grantham (as naturalized player) with Tyler Harris (as a local). A poster here may say, "Why worry about a lowly ranked team (Qatar is No. 92 in the FIBA world ranking)?" I don't really put that much weight on world rankings. Qatar may only ranked No. 92 in the world but by having 2 American imports now on its side, it is going to threaten world No. 35 Jordan, world No. 28 Iran (remember Qatar already beat Iran in the 2nd window) & of course our very own Gilas team which is ranked No. 34. Chinese Taipei is ranked No. 79 but with the way it played in the 3rd window it looks like it is going to threaten some Asian teams ranked from 20 to 40 in the world ranking. Eh wala pa nga dyan yung mga Hinton brothers.

Rankings are there to conclude their performance in their past years... Taiwan and Qatar not making any progress in last 10 years in any Fiba competitions.. So their rankings are very low... But it will take big complications in every draw lots for Fiba Asia cup and world cup qualifiers in November.. whoever will group Taiwan and Qatar will go, it means a group of death already for teams that will be group by both Qatar and Taiwan.. no easy games in every window...

Speaking of which, the SBP should push to host that edition.

Been a while since we hosted it.

I think better SBP host women's world cup or the Asia cup first... Better to promote women's basketball here... I'm sure many will watch Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark playing for team USA here...For 2029 Fiba Asia cup men's edition.. I think Mongolia or UAE are top choices for 2029 edition... But of the two, I want Mongolia, simply because they love basketball too like us... And they have quality arenas out there to host..

The usual suspects qualify for this year's Asia Cup.

- Japan
- Jordan
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Iran
- Lebanon
- China
- South Korea
- Philippines

Why are we only getting such a short prep time for the tourney? I call bull on Cone. Why isn't he asking the PiBiEy for a longer prep time? Instead he is just towing the league line. He is a great coach but is nothing more than a stooge for that stupid league.

This final qualifiers will likely the final stint of Wesley and Cruz (if they lose), both already twilight of their careers.. this is likely the best chance to make history for the island of Guam.. they likely lose to Taiwan but they have a better chance vs Thailand... They will be the smallest and fewest inhabitants to qualify for any continental tournament in history.. as they are smaller than the likes of Cape Verde, Iceland or Bahamas and few inhabitants than Cape Verde....

If we're talking about preparation period prior to each window qualifier for both the FIBA Asia Cup & FIBA World Cup, I think the usual 9 to 10-day training period that Gilas is getting prior to each window qualifier is similar to the training period that all Asian & Oceania teams are getting. Remember that Japan's B-league only takes about 2 weeks of break to give way to their national team's preparation. Meaning the B-league takes a brief break around 9 to 10 days before a window qualifier. I think in similar situation din yung mga national teams ng China, Korea, Jordan, Iran, New Zeakand, Qatar, etc. Its not like some teams are getting 4 weeks of preparation period in a window qualifier.

Magkakatalo lang yan sa preparation period for the tournament proper - FIBA Asia Cup & FIBA World Cup. Other national teams can have as much as 2-month preparation period while others will only get a month of preparation. I just hope that for the 2025 FIBA.

The whole point of establishing a main core since the first window is to develop your chemistry as each window progresses. This is why Cone is hellbent on having a shallower pool of 12-players.

To a certain extent, I agree. Our players are spread out and will never be available to conduct once-a-week practices during the season. However, the problem is the 12-players he selected are not all useful; just look at our rotation since last year.

There's really nothing wrong with having a bigger pool. Just establish your main guys and have reserves in case they get injured. That's all.

Plus, the current members of the team aren't new to each other. They've all played together before albeit under a different system.

Kaya ang 9-10 days preparation before a tournament ay pwede if it's only a two-game stretch. Those 9-10 days window of preparations prior to each window is where you build your chemistry in the lead up to the main tournament.

QMB (once cleared) for Kai and either Heading/Winston for Iskati, but obviously Iskati is untouchable so kht si QMB na lng :D Pero I wish CTC and Boss Al would both recall that we did well in OQT without Iskati with Newsome as the primary ballhandler.

Makes me wonder, would Gilas have beaten Latvia if Iskati was available at that time? Baka nag iba yung complexion ng Gilas with Iskati playing at that time. Maybe it was a blessing in disguised that Iskati was injured at that time.

Peace sa mga Ginebra fans:cool:

so granting that QMB’s parents did indeed secured his Filipino passport in a Philippine consulate in the States when he was still a boy. This is likely as Milloras are well connected. I posted here before I understand his grandpa is a distinguished UP College of Medicine alumnus. At young age his lolo may have seen his apo’s potential and applied dual citizenship for young Quentin. Former IBP president and late Pangasinan governor Vicente Millora is a relative of his lolo. At very young age he may have Philippine passport but it may have expired and never stamped as Quentin may never used his Philippine passport when he spent his holidays in Philippines. Having a Western passport is more convenient when going to immigration counters in NAIA. As Philippine passport holders have to traverse usually long queues.

I have 2 passports myself, I usually presented my non-Filipino passport whenever I go to Philippines. I secured it almost 10 years ago after my re-acquisition of Filipino citizenship. Almost every year I have vacation to home-country but each time I don’t bothered to have it stamped. Maybe QMB’s parents were doing the same…

Same thought I have. You pinned it right. There is an advantage of using American Passport that may be the reason why his passport were not being stamped.

As Coach tab put it (Fiba does not recognize getting passport under 16 alone). You still have to establish your connection with the country he wishes to represent. The link must be in terms of the basketball culture they shared with one another.

I’m not sure about that statement by CTB, and I’m pretty certain that Harris, Konov, and many Fil-foreign players didn’t establish their connection to the Philippines before they got their passports before the age of 16 and played for the Gilas youth team. Caelum only went to the Philippines right after he got his passport, so there was no connection to the Philippines prior to that, except for his passport and Filipino lineage. The same can be said for Alex Konov because, honestly, he is more Bulgarian than Filipino, and the same applies to Mahmood, Jones, etc.

I will only believe it when there’s a scenario where a Fil-foreign player got their under-16 passport but was unable to play because of the connection issue.

Tomorrow will start the final qualifiers for remaining 4 spots in Fiba Asia cup.. I'm rooting for Guam to advance.. will they finally debut in main continental tournament here?

But how is this satisfied in real world. I mean what did Harris did to get the nod. He did play for 2 years in Qatar before getting his eligibility but those are just maximum of 4 months in a year. He played with other leagues during those times

Yes. And they got Taiwan, which is on a roll, as its 1st assignment tomorrow. https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-asiacup-2025-qualifiers/games

Guam and Thailand will miss their big man, as Martin Bruenig and Jonathan Galloway was not allowed by their mother teams in Macedonia and Germany to participate this final qualifiers... Taiwan will be absolutely favorites to be on top while Guam vs Thailand will be a fair match, Lish vs Ross will be match up for the final time, both are top scorers in Asian basketball today... While Jakrawan and Ejesu will have to stop Tai Wesley down low.. Tai Wesley schooled Chinese bigs last time such as Yang Hansen and Hu Jinqui...
