FIBA ASIA Cup Qualifiers

10 days to prepare for Asian Cup, can we incorporate a new player who has not played under TC

This is a 4-year program that will culminate in 2027 or perhaps 2028. Cohesion, chemistry & assimilation to coach Tim Cone's system & scheme of things will be achieved thru accumulation of practices/scrimmages, playing tune-up games & playing in window qualifiers & other tournaments in that 4 year cycle. Its a continuing process bro. It's not like we give QMB or say a Schonny Winston 10 days to learn the triangle & jell/bond with his Gilas teammates.

It's okay to have the Australia, NZL in the 1st round, since even we won't draw them at 1st round, we will surely meet either of them in the 2nd round which is the crucial part. So it's better to get either of them in the 1st round and try to get 1-1 against them.

No... We have no luxury to face them early without Kai... All games are recorded until final window, so every game counts there... Better avoid them..

I think the age and less familiarity with system counts against Newsome. We should find a replacement now before he starts declining.

IAlways argue that if we really need to keep Scottie at least bring him off the bench and let a real PG start. Let a tall PG like Bollick, Heading or Winston start then Scottie brings the energy when they sit. He's a utility player who compliments other players and shouldn't be counted on to score or play starter minutes.

We should find & integrate to the team a replacement "now" and not when Newsome retires becoz that replacement have to learn & assimilate coach Tim's system which takes time.

Our main target is the world cup, because that is the main qualifiers for Olympics for Asian teams... Without Kai, our chances are slim to none.. then better to use Asia cup to add some players to familiarize the system... The real battle is the world cup qualifiers in November... I already give up on dreaming Gilas will win any medal there...

Agree with this

Watch the stats of gilas and you will know the magic nuumber we need to beat opponents...

I remeber back in 2002 jong uichico told that in order to win we need to.limit asia yeams under 60 points.. thats impossible now in the game we play nowadays

It’s more on limiting 3 pt FG nowadays.

For the second consecutive game in a row, we failed to contain NZ’s outside shooting.

Getting at least a podium finish still matters because our Asia Cup standing will affect our rankings.

Why do you think we dropped from 27th to 41st? Those 7th and 9th place finishes in 2017 & 2022 under Choke did a number on us.

The pot allocation for the WCQ is based on our ranking.

I’m open to replacing Scottie, but is there anyone who can defend quite like him? It would be worth reviewing the replays to appreciate the intangibles he brings to the game. We’ve seen how undersized point guards struggle against the taller, stronger, and more athletic guards from New Zealand, Australia, and the Middle East. While RJ is effective against South Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei, the tougher competition now comes from the Middle East, as well as NZ and AU.

I could consider Bolick, but he needs to step up his defense. The best options would be Parks, Heading, and Wright—they’re tall, athletic, capable of bringing the ball down, solid defenders, and efficient three-point shooters with experience in FIBA’s playstyle. Stockton and Wilson are also worth considering, but they need to be integrated and tested in international games as soon as possible.

The triangle doesnt realky require a purist pg so i will return back dweet as seconday pg to improve his decision making..i would rather have an empty possesion with ball moving than a one man dribble move that dweet and kiefer doing..it doesnt really tire defense..

You have to consider your personnel. Did they do the triangle when Newsome led to a comeback? From the highlights I don't think so. It seems to me without Kai or Fajardo, Tim's triangle is not effective on this level. I think they need to work with their talent. If guys like Edu are effective in a PNR setting then they have to adapt.

They arent really running full triangle even in ginebra but since tim.philosophy is really team.based you need to k ow when to go away with triangle and when isnt.. new zealand caught red handed when otber guys attacked their players..again despite how hot new zealand and taiwan are sholting tbeir threes tbey still score on 90s level only..sukat

Tim Cone needs to get out of his triangle for the meantime if he wants to win more. His team won a grandslam in 2014 with him deviating from triangle at times.

So the addition if theres any will depend on who can contribute more on offense or unluckily how will iskati adjust and make his shots..

In oqt, wala si iskati.. tim cone era started after 2022 asia cup when he is already shadowing chot and brownlee staryed to became our sub naturalize player..( the players where already evaluated that time) hence the team was already assembled..

So watch out on the cuts ( parks, abando ravenas, kouame if they will plug on in this gilas team).. wait heading played with tim in one of window..

It would be surprising if tim will get guys outside of that players(sj,qmb)

There were you know, a lot of clamour since at least last year to add more players to the pool a lot just ignored that and continue to hope for the best.

Are we expecting things to be far different than what we have shown in the invitationals and qualifiers in just 10 days? They have all the power and freedom to assemble a great team why limit and handicap ourselves?

He has a good senior coach in his corner, let Jong design an option B both on offense and defense,it will probably knock the socks of their opponents and keep them off balance.

So we ended our 2025 FIBA Asia Cup window qualifier campaign on a losing mode. A very frustrating losing mode...

...Then we console ourselves by saying, "Those loses are non-bearing games since we are already qualified anyway"
