FIBA ASIA Cup Qualifiers

we got the Latvia success when Scottie was unavailable. instead of Newsome getting promoted as lead guard, Scottie immediately went back as lead guard after getting back to the lineup (indeed he did well 1st NZ game, but bad this window). it's the nepotism that sucks. if the player is doing bad, bench him and elevate the guy who did well.

we need a 3rd guard that can 'play ahead' of both Scottie and Newsome, and remove CJ Perez.

But to be honest, these non-bearing loses are really timely to address the flaws within the system as well as the personnel changes. I hope that come FIBA-Asia Cup, we can now play without Kai.

We had Kai's inside scoring and JB's overall scoring to counterbalance our lack of shooting. We now need players who can hit threes. So time to get more threes out of Carl, Quiambao, Oftana, Dwight, and Malonzo. If we don't drop or demote CJ, him too. If we can't get something out of them, that's when I think we should call up someone who can shoot.

Where to watch China and Guam game?

Already done... China won by 8.. 86-78, despite the lose, Guam will be heading to 3rd placers games alongside Thailand and Taiwan.. Taiwan for sure will get the first slot.. Thailand vs Guam will be a must see game.. both have talented players.. but sorry for Mongolia, I want them to advance because of their love for basketball... Maybe next time if their top young prospects will be available...

Venezuela had beaten Argentina's Team A yesterday I think. Overall, its better to see these weaknesses now w/ Gilas than later. To Boss Al, now's the time to make use of influence and get Kouame, Barefield and QMB as locals hehe

Al Chua might be one of the most influential personalities here but he has no big relationship with top Fiba executives... FIBA's one of top sponsors is SMART.. that means FIBA executives connection here is from the MVP camp...

China took it easy the whole game. Look at the minute distribution of China they did not go full throttle.

One team that is not happy.. It's Mongolia... They have their chances too, they have big 20 pt lead vs Guam but they let Guam cut that deficit.. but it's ok... If Mongolia was in group A, they can beat Thailand and Indonesia.. they are in tough group...

Taipei is the clear favorite to get one of the two remaining slots in the East zone.

This stage is essentially a toss up between Thailand and Guam. Thailand looks good with Ejesu, Bruenig, Morgan, Lamb, Jakrawan and Lish playing. Guam really needs to just adjust their game.

If teams like Mongolia, UAE, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.. improves in next 5 years, maybe in the future Fiba Asia will expand the competition from 16 to 20 or even 24.. More teams means more competitive games and rising teams will improve faster, just like in Europe... The strength between Tier B to Tier C is just nearer and nearer... It just Australia are too tough to handle... Qatar beat Iran, Taiwan beat Philippines, Thailand almost beat Korea, Saudi beat Jordan before.. the more competition like this qualifiers makes those tier C teams improve faster because they are now experiencing top level competition consistently that never happened before... And the existence of WASL, EASL and BCL makes even faster because teams from rising teams such as Indonesia, Mongolia, even Kuwait, Oman, etc.. experiencing heavy competitions outside national team games... 10 years ago, you don't see the existence of Mongolia, Guam, KSA, UAE, etc.. in the world of basketball, fast forward today, all of them are now exist and proving they are also belong in Asian basketball...

Experience will go to Guam, if coach Calvo do his job to improve his coaching.. they are just 3 pts behind Taiwan last qualifiers.. Wesley, Ross and Galloway are prime time players... Last time, they missed the services of Ross and Cruz in that crucial games vs Taiwan... Let's see if they revenge.. although in my heart I want Guam to advance.. I don't like Thailand because they arrogant (remember their football team mock our Azkals team)... Nasa loob ng kulo ng mga Thais na yan...

It’s ironic that we’re stuck resurrecting the retired Japeth and praying to the basketball gods for exemption for ineligibles when there is a defensive big who has a good track record in Fiba. What’s the point of dragging Japeths sorry ass when we should be trying out younger players who should actually be part of Gilas’s long term. Kai’s injury is exposing the weakness of Cone’s chosen 12. Japeth hides it a bit. But I dont know for how long.

People cherrypick the Jarkrawan matchup when Baltazar actually played the most minutes second to Kouame in Tabs Gilas. Overall the guy did great and was instrumental in Tabs Gilas success. He was instrumental in defending SKs ace in two straight games. He held the fort while Kouame sat and Kai was not in the lineup. He contributed to the close Serbia game based on the stats.

People like to pick he is not as good now. But tell me who among the eligibles has his length and ability to switch in the perimeter? People point out that he is an inefficient scorer. But dont’t we need more defense? And it’s not as if he can’t score.

Thailand can give Taiwan problems with all the half Thais will play.

Maybe in one half .. Taiwan is already much better than last 5 years or so... Taiwan have more system than Thailand, who like Guam likes to play iso ball... And they have high spirits after beating Gilas

CTC, SBP are too stubborn not to pick Baltazar.. he's only guy in the PBA today who is Fiba eligible that have exact combination of skills, length and height in Fiba tournaments.. Both smc and mvp still playing politics...
