Went from almost beating Georgia, Brazil without Kai to losing against Taipei, fall-off is crazy lol.
Reminiscent of the old chot reyes teams, we tend to play at the level of our competition…

Although just to make the mood lighter, this Chinese Taipei team is the same team that made the Tall Blacks run for their money atleast until 3rd quarter last window. The TB just got away in the 4th quarter. Makes me think this is not a fluke win for them at all.
BUT I STILL CANT BELIEVE WE LOST TO A MINI CHINA LMAO
well Skati and Newnew are not really speedsters...This Gilas iteration lack that quick change of pace scoring point guard like the Alapags, Castrosa and Calmas. It seems that Tim gets so fascinated of Upsizing our Pg for Upsizing sake. New and Skati are nor natural Pgs, pinilit sa hinog lang. I believe we need RJ as that 3rd PG , he is decent size na for Asian level. Japans PG are just 5-6 in Togashi and 5-8 Kawamura who is in the Nba now. This Gilas iteration seems to struggle with quicker teams. They struggled as well in the pocket tournament against speed and pesky defense.
Now you changed your tune. You're against on bolick idea![]()
Tim should trust his bench..

Pba oftana still missing in international level.
Whats wrong?
I think Oftana isn't really built for the FIBA game. In the PBA, he's really one of the deadliest 3-pt shooter & if he is in his rhythm, he can hit as many as 5 to 6 triples in a game. But in the FIBA game parang you are watching at a different Oftana in Gilas jersey. It's like a water-down version of Oftana you're watching in Gilas uniform. He reminds me of Matthew Wright in Gilas uniform.
But if we are to believe some of our fellow Pinoy posters here, modern basketball, especially triangle offense, does not need natural or traditional point guard for as long as the team has some playmakers playing in other positions.
For me, this loss is what Gilas really needs for Tim Cone to reconsider things.
I still believe that we can redeem ourselves from this loss. It's just that Taipei wants it more. The team has something to prove.
Another thing, the game highlights the need of another bigman. Neither AJ and June Mar can't provide what Kai can provide for our team. IMO, with Kai's absence, what we need is an energy big - someone that is willing to outhustle everyone (rebounds and defense).
How? Backread my post way way back last year, I actually want Bolick, alongside Baltazar and Abando as extensions of Gilas pool.. He's also my pick over Heading, because Bolick is masterize already to play guard position while heading just learning to play PG at Converge... You can check all of my post and Bolick is one of my top list...
Bolick is a quality guard we have but still not on the level what Castro or Alapag bring to Philippine basketball.. both have winning mentality, very high basketball IQ, superb talent, etc.. that Bolick still trying to reach their levels.. He's not yet on there yet.. No one until now...
To me, this loss against Taipei is not of the same magnitude when we were beaten by Indonesia.
Maybe because I know that Taipei is a level better locals than Indonesia. Another is that Taipei wants to comeback its respectability in Asian basketball. That's the reason why I am not really that mad with the yesterday's results. Taipei just showed its hunger to win meaningful games.
On the side of Gilas, I will still give Tim Cone a try. For one, Gilas has already qualified for the FIBA-Asia Cup. Most likely, this window will be a good test about the level of Gilas with Kai sitting. Another is the reintegration of AJ to the team. Last is the adjustments that need to be adjusted based on this window which should include the addition of personnel.
Overall, I am just happy that Taipei is now getting better after years of conundrum due to the departures of Tseng Wenting, Tien Lei, Wu Taihao and Lin Chihchieh.

It's crazy that a year ago, the fans were literally cheering for the long-haired guy to score—either for fun or to mock him—when they were down by 50+ points. No one would have thought that a year later, he would get his revenge. I still can't believe how massive the downfall was after losing Kai. Honestly, I thought this window would be for the KBL boys, but CTC didn’t even give them a chance.
What makes this loss even more painful is that the Taipei team was missing two key players, the Hinton brothers. Robert Hinton, who is currently doing good in the Ivy League, is easily their best player, while Adam is a starter-caliber player for them. It makes me think that even if we had Kai, the result would have been the same if they had those two. Our gap with them is getting narrower without us even realizing it.
