Just heard a rumor supposedly coming from someone close to Junemar that SMC wont make him available for the Feb window since he just recovered from an injury.

Understandable on the June Mar injury. Needs to recover.

I guess it's time we recalled Ange. We don't have a lot of bigs.

Almazan and Sangalang are poor in FIBA, might as well call up younger guys. Pablo and Gagate, maybe? Can't do any worse. At least these guys are young. Maybe we can test Arana too, since we have no choice.

Ange the starter,Gagate is ok,btw how tall is this kid really? They list his height from 6'8 to 6'10,which one is it? How about Konov is he eligible as a local? He should be at least 6'8 to 6'9 by now, good size for PF.Is Balti still gonna be available too?

Kahugis na ni Belga.

Translation: Dray in his Belga impression

P**a hahaha. He is far far from game shape hahaha. Imported Extra rice brother incoming hahaha. kidding aside, they need to call up Arana, Lucero (if he is still healthy), Gozum, Liwag and the young guns. maybe they can thrive in a these qualifiers wherein the stakes are still low.

Jordan Heading playing for Strong Group in an upcoming international tournament in Dubai could mean another good Gilas prospect in the upcoming Asia Cup window in February. I think Heading would be serviceable for Gilas based on his performance with Gilas in 2021 under coach Tab.
BTW, I just wonder why Heading hasn't played for any B-league team this season? No more takers? I think he played fairly good last season with his team in Japan.

Hopefully, we can recall him. We need his shooting. Hope his back's healed too.

Honestly, 2-3 weeks prep is ideal for 2-3 qualifying games if your team’s core is already set.

It’s not like we’re introducing new faces as our main cards.

We have also think that who are our opponents are... If this is against stronger teams then 6 weeks is a must... Well, Taiwan is a good team but we are still better than them...

Honestly, this is a window where we can test our young players and prospects. Still, we should send a strong enough young team.

Recall younger players that have served in Gilas, like Dwight, Carl, Mason, Kai, Ange (NP), Belangel, RJ, Quiambao, Lopez, Heading, Juan GDL, and Javi GDL. While we're at it, call up guys like Gutang, Tuffin, Schonny, Arana, Valdez, and some U19 guys like Pablo, Gagate, Demisana.

Could be strong enough against Taiwan, especially Dwight, Carl, Kai, Ange, Heading, SJ, and RJ, while allowing them to establish chemistry. Plus, these guys have trained and played together before.

Well, first round ends on Friday. That leaves enough time for Gilas to pick from the first-round exits.
Here are the useful guys (or the potentially useful guys) from the playoff teams (in my opinion), along with their birth year so we can keep track of their age:

Mags: Abueva (1988)
SMB: June Mar (1989), Terrence (1992), Perez (1993)
Ginebra: Ahanmisi (1991), Scottie (1993), Malonzo (1996)
Phoenix: Tuffin (1997), Ricci (1998)
MERALCO: Newsome (1990)
NorthPort: Arvin (1995), Navarro (1997)
RoS: Mamuyac (1999)
TNT: Oftana (1996)

So if coach Tim Cone would be named Gilas head coach for the next 4 years & he will coach Gilas in the upcoming 1st window of the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers, expect that some PBA players will suit for Gilas this February.

Expect a No. of Ginebra players like Iskati, Malonzo & Justin Brownlee to be on that team. Likewise guys like CJ Perez, Calvin Oftana, Chris Newsome & even Junmar Fajardo are expected to be on that team.

Actually, not a problem if we want to develop a long-term core for the 4-year cycle. I think Newsome, JB, and June Mar can still be useful until 2025 (anything after that is a bonus, if we're going to be completely honest). Scottie, Malonzo, Oftana, and CJ can play until 2027 at least. We have to gradually replace them as their game slows down.

Plus, if JB's gonna be the import, we need another center (unless if JB's gonna be our 3rd player at 5). And we know that June Mar and Kai are defensive liabilities with AJ out, so we need good defenders (good thing Brownlee is one). As for 4, Malonzo and JB can fill that position in, but as for natural fours, we need to look outside the PBA.

As Ginebra fans would say no need for Ange,JB can play small 5 if necessary.

Actually, in the Jordan game in February last year, we played better with JB at center than with June Mar, especially on defense.

We still need a true center. Plus, Ange is approaching his prime. We will need him long-term.

So officially if its really TC only naturalized SMC import will be playing, got lucky in Asian Games to have two naturalized at the same time.

we all know that it is very challenging and quite difficult handling 2 high profile jobs both at the same time even in a corporate world it's all about high risk high reward thing.

in a normal situation someone need to let go on something.

because were talking about better output and better production here.

as the saying goes " e cannot serve 2 highly demanding masters here".

even the so-called brainest amongst the brains has it's own affirmities and shortcomings.

I was wondering about frequent the non-inclusion of Roosevelt Adams and Ray Parks. I keep on thinking what if, alongside Calvin Oftana, we have a 6'4 Parks and 6'5 Adams at the wings. It could have addressed our apparent lack of length and shooters.

Well our PGs suck and Bolick who has been balling for the last few years wasn't even invited despite being willing and available. They even made the BS rumour about him going on their honeymoon, inability to share the ball with JC etc. He even got bashed a lot in socmed. Same with all the other Pinoy imports and Balti (?) . Winning games isn't really a priority for these people

If the SBP is talking about a 4 year cycle we have a handful of 25 and under players that has played in the seniors team.

B League players
Kai Sotto - 7'2" 21 y/o
AJ Edu - 6'10" 24 y/o
Carl Tamayo - 6'7" 22 y/o
RJ Abarrientos - 5'10 24 y/o
Dwight Ramos - 6'4" 25 y/o

KBL players
Rhenz Abando - 6'2" 25 y/o
SJ Belangel - 5'9" 24 y/o
Juan Gomez De Liano - 6'0" 24 y/o
Dave Ildefonso 6'2" 23 y/o

PBA players
Javi Gomez De Liano - 6'3" 25 y/o

College players
Kevin Quiambao - 6'5" 22 y/o
Mason Amos - 6'7" 19 y/o
Francis Lopez - 6'5" 20 y/o
Jerom Lastimosa - 5'11" 25 y/o
Geo Chiu - 6'9" 22 y/o

** Ange Kouame - 6'11" 26 y/o

Include Gutang in the KBL gang. He's eligible, and he's improving with LG.

Now, we'll need as many of the U26's as possible, because most of the pool for the WC and Asiad (excluding the ones you had on that list) are old.

Japeth (retired) - 36 going 37
Marcio - 36 going 37
Abueva - 35 going 36
Brownlee (NP) - 35 going 36
Erram (retired) - 34 going 35
June Mar - 34 going 35
Newsome - 32 going 33
Alas - 32 going 33
Terrence - 31 going 32
Pogoy - 31 going 32
JC - 31 going 32
Parks - 30 going 31
Scottie - 30 going 31
Perez - 30 going 31
Oftana - 28
Heading - 27 going 28
Malonzo - 27 going 28
Thirdy - 27 going 28

From this group, we really need to select those who can play until at least 2025. And the core has to be one that can play until 2027 at least. Focus on continuity even after that.

The core for the last Asiad was Japeth, June Mar, Newsome, Ange, Oftana, Perez, and Scottie. Excluding Japeth, who's already retired, that core has an average age of 31.33. We really need to get a younger core, one that can last until 2027.

For this window, we need to call up as many players that are 28 and under (Carl, Dwight, Heading, Tuffin, Kai, Lopez, Quiambao, Mason, Gutang, SJ, RJ). We need to train for 2027. This window provides a perfect opportunity for us to start building with a younger core.

NorthPort: Arvin (1995), Navarro (1997)
RoS: Mamuyac (1999)
TNT: Oftana (1996)

TNT are out, and we can recall Oftana. Hopefully, we recall no one else from that team (except maybe 37yo Castro).
