FIBA ASIA Cup Qualifiers

I'd rather be toxically positive than toxically negative. The team is winning and yet you sound like it's been losing. And not allowing yourself to celebrate if we win the Asia Cup is sad.

There's no perfect program/system. Part of the success of this program is "team ball" like you said. It's how guys are able to mask defensive weaknesses and it's how the offense is unpredictable. With that positive, comes negatives. It's difficult integrating new players. Everything has pros and cons, we use results to figure out which one works. So far results have been positive.

Toxicity is toxicity.

Don’t ignore the team’s present problems and pretend things are alright.

that’s simply you taking things out of context and interpreting them as you wish to fit your narrative.

Al Chua has always been a red flag. People seem to forget this.

I didn’t get carried away with Tim’s recent success. I don’t plan to even if we miraculously win the Asia Cup.

The real litmus test is still qualifying for Qatar 2027 and LA 2028.

We meet both objectives, then maybe I’ll believe this “smaller pool is better” BS.

didn’t say I won’t celebrate. All I said was that even if we win miraculously, I won’t be high on CTC’s approach yet. Beating Australia (yes, we will definitely meet them in the finals or at some point in the tournament) without Kai will take a miracle. You don’t get high on miracle wins. Celebrate them but don’t get carried away. That’s all I meant.

All you did was misinterpret my statement (as I’ve said) to fit your narrative.

You don’t understand nuance because you don’t read and prefer to see things in rose-tinted glasses.

Hear you loud and clear. Gilas success won't make you happy. Your viewpoint is more important.

On that note, good luck to you.

Different viewpoint doesn’t mean opposite view point.

I never said my viewpoint was more important. It’s my opinion and no one forced you to accept it.

You don’t agree? Then, good day to you.

I'm hoping that CTC will have another option besides his triangle, once the opposing team figured it out,it's all downhill for them.On defense it looks like he's more flexible he doesn't employ that pack the paint Gin defense much,we don't want to see ala Chot small all the way.

If you're referring to last night, we should remember the stated goals before the tuneups began...experiment, test new guys and give Edu vital experience (winning and losing can offer different lessons). If you take into account those objectives, you will see the game in a different light. It's absolutely possible we could've won if our primary objective was to win.

As for the Triangle, every system has its pros and cons. We're not like team USA teeming with talent where we can adapt any style and beat any type of team. Our system gives us a good probability of beating certain types of teams and there are also teams where it won't be the case. We can only go by results, and so far our results have been better than most of our recent history.

The system fits our talent...size (Kai, JMF, Edu), non trad PG(Scottie), versatile wings (News, Dwight) and an MJ/Kobe guy in Brownlee. Shooting is not our strong suit and we have defensive weaknesses...both of which can be minimized with the triangle. Chemistry/cohesiveness (sum better than the parts) also gives us a chance to beat much talented teams.

Of course it's worthwhile to always innovate, improve and add options, but at the end of the day, the most successful teams have a strong and consistent Team Identity. The key is when even if your opponent knows what you're going to do, he can't stop it.

This should be the best time that we add some players since we are qualified already plus this is a tune up game.. Baltazar, Heading and Abando should be considered this time.. No one perfect scenario than today because we are nothing to lose... But Tim cone, Boss Al and SBP didn't invite them instead they add finished product Rosario.. I get that chemistry thing but we have to pick best talent in that respective positions...

I was wondering why we are only hellbent on QMB but not on Mike Philipps. Mike Philipps and Justin Baltazar, we can now let Japeth have his long-awaited retirement. He has been playing for the national team since 2009. Give him his well-deserved retirement.

Becoz QMB has a Philippine passport which he claims to have been obtained prior to his 16th birthday while Mike Philipps doesn't. If QMB's Philippine passport which he claims he obtained before he reached 16 yrs old is indeed legit & authentic, then he absolutely is eligible to play for the Philippine team as a local. The case of Mike Philipps on the other hand, since he obtained his Phi passport after his 16th birthday, he can only apply for FIBA exemption owing to the fact that he has been residing here in the Philippine s for more than 5 years now & has played in local collegiate basketball for several years now.

Kumbaga, QMB has a lot more chance of being declared FIBA eligible than Mike Philipps does.

Hopefully, SBP will not sleep again in the noodle house and start working on Phillips' and Ange's exemption in time for the next cycle. Phillips would have been great against Lebanon and Egypt because of his energy. Gilas was tired in the last two games against Lebanon and Egypt.

I think SMC & SBP will wait for Mike Philipps to turn pro, enter the PBA to be specific, before they apply for FIBA exemption for Mike to play as a Filipino local player.

Of course he has to play for one of the SMC teams as a caveat:cool:

Well, it now looks like SMC has no control on QMB. If QMB is declared by FIBA as Pinoy local player, SMC can't do anything to stop QMB to play in Japan or elsewhere outside of the PBA. But with Mike Philipps, SMC can throw a condition: "Play for us or we won't apply for your FIBA exemption."

I'll be honest I think this is really fishy. He promised us to show that last November and it's mid February now. Would it really take that long to show an old passport?
