More importantly for me, 196cm (6'5")+ players who can defend the perimeter at the wing position.

Yup. It’s not the offense it’s the defense. That’s why the role 3ND was born. You don’ t need a tall guy who can dribble, drive but will be eaten alive on D. You need a tall guy who is quick and strong enough to defend the perimeter and hit the occasional open 3.

You would realize how simple this is if you watched the originator of this position Bruce Bowen of the spurs. The guy was a reject. He was 6’7 and athletic but he had zero skills. Couldnt dribble. Was an inefficient shooter. But the spurs had a problem. Their SF was 6’5 Ginobili was not known for defense. Kobe had been eating their defense. Now young guns like LBJ and Melo were starting to do the same. In comes Bowen he was strong, fast and big enough to defend the all stars of the league. On offense he just had to practice the corner 3. Voila. After letting go of 6’8 do it all SF Stephen Jackson they were able to be competitive because of an unskilled 6’7 guy who could defens. That is before they stumbled on to another guy but who developed into more than a 3D guy but one of the best 2 way players in the league.

So there it’s not the offense for the SF position it’s the defense that’s more important for us right now.

In a span of just 1 year, how many Gilas players got injured - Malonzo, AJ Edu, Iskati Thompson, Kai & most recent Dwight Ramos? That's 5 players in the 1st year of Gilas program alone under coach Tim.

Nah, its not exclusive to Gilas. Sokor has been fielding almost different lineups every window. They have more injuries than Gilas and they have chemistry problems due to these changes. They havent really gotten their groove back.

Kai is injured, AJ is there
Scottie was injured, newsome is capable at PG
Dwight is injured but we got malonzo back and KQ gets more playing time
I dont really see the issue why we need to further expand the pool when we already have 3-4 players as reserves

Its just that your favorite players are not in the pool.

I doubt it.

The issue is political.

It's fucking Chua. Kailan ba hindi eto umepal sa programa? the guy has been causing trouble since the Gilas 1 days.

let’s summarize

Ray parks jr. - how he left PBA due to contract issues
Kiefer Ravena - how he left PBA.. (due to PBA not familiar with buy out) but eventually they released him and pba contract)
SJ Belangel - vocal on how SBP run and the treatment on his former ADMU coach
Bolick - his reluctance to be traded to SMC teams
Heading - how he found a loop on getting a clearance to different federation that allows him to play in foreign league. by this look what PBA did to navarro in return. Plus he’s playing with converge. Delta was not allowed to be pba governor due to outside reputation.

I repeat again.. Lots of players are better than iskati and some players in the pool.. is that some of them has issues one over the other and we all know how matampuhin sbp and pba is.

Who are among the reserved players in Gilas? An aging Japeth Aguilar who is supposed to have retired from the national team but have to come out from retirement everytime a Gilas big man is injured? Another aging player in Troy Rosario who has hardly proven himself as a national team player some years ago?

What favorite players of mine who aren't in Gilas that you're talking about? Saying like "this player should be in the national team as I think he is serviceable for the team" doesn't really suggest that player is a favorite of mine. I'm just trying to be objective & rational.

Bro, it's just natural that if a player plays very well in whichever leagues he play, may it be the PBA, B-league, KBL, people have the tendency to think or suggest that maybe that player deserves a national team invite. Of course hindi naman lahat ng situation ay ganoon. Like in Justin Arana's case, he has been playing very well at Converge but most of us here at IBN think he's not serviceable for Gilas in the Asian or world level basketball.

Japeth, Mason, Troy and Kouame are in the pool. Very debatable if some players are better than them. Since CTC is the coach, he should be given free reign and he has since delivered. I will not question his player choices or pool size.

and when will you integrate the replacements for older players?

With Japeth out we will likely see a lot of small ball in Doha. TC already said he will limit Edus minutes. The teams in this area are big and burly and the play is pretty physical. PFs like Troy, Carl and Mason will probably play center. JB will be relied on for some rim protection as our PFs are not known for it at this level.

If CTC will limit Edu, we will see a lot of:

Carl, Mason, KQ, and even JB playing the 5. Kinda like how you see GSM playing without Japeth against Meralco with 6'9 Mitchell.

He already said Troy will get limited or no action because of his recent injury.

So it's a small ball 5 when JMF sits and everything will depend on our outside shooting.

Unless, of course, CTC calls up Ange at the last minute for the exhibition games.

We need to find as many workable lineups without Kai, AJ, and Japeth as we can.

So, find workable small ball lineups and workable lineups with June Mar on the floor.

We need Ange in the exhibition games. Just sayin'. The guy is available.

SMC/SBP doesn't want him as NP. I think he's just an option if JB gets injured or in tourneys that doesn't limit NPs.

In the case of the exhibition games, it doesn’t limit NPs.

It’s like the Jones Cup and Dubai tournament.

oh dear..

we do hope that the injury suffered by Dwight last night's game are ain't that serious.

Dwight absence will be massive. I feel like he is the only local player who is capable of defending the comebacking star player of NZ who is Te Rangi.

The limited pool really puts Gilas in the disadvantage. With Kai, Japeth, Troy and Dwight not coming, since we have small pool, we have no choice to use whoever is available. Apparently, we have a decimated frontline right now.

Calling Baltazar, QMB and Chiu could have lessen this impact a little more.

No one is making known their intention to retire this year or next year. It would be unfair to current players to already have your replacement this early.

Only the QMB as future replacement to JF makes sense right now since hepa or sage is a long shot. If he is not in the lineup then theres probably sonething wrong with his papers.

People dont think that if lets say half of the team is injured and you have limited people, it is not good that we only send 6-8 players in window games or tournament proper

This injuries are basketball gods sign to tim cone to widen the pool.. Bet media will ask tim cone about the pool and cone will get irk again..

So we can wait till 11th hour to find replacements? That's not how it works.. even powerhouse teams have wider pool why not RP? Sure the system work about this short pool but in the long run it will bite us..

Don't defend cone's stubborness.

It pays good to have a wider pool..
