For me, the way he scores is exactly what we need. The JC style where everyone just stands and watches is not good basketball.

For perspective, I don't think Kai can consistently score 5 pts in the NBA and yet he can be a scorer for Gilas. Okongwu averaged about 30 in the very top HS tier, more than 16 in D1 as a freshman and is on a scoring spree this year. And he's 24.

He'll be a problem in non-Aus Asia and might be our solution against rough and athletic Americas/African teams.

All moot though since he's not available. I just hope we consider his archetype more than just clear-out asa sa import types.

for sure. i agree that his type of player is better for us. i just dont see, so far, Gilas leaders going for that as evident on the whole Boatright love from them.

If it's coming down to Troy vs Balti, I also want Balti on the team more but i don't think it's gonna matter that much, especially this upcoming window. Their size is not far off, Balti has more length but Troy has more mass. Balti has the better skillset, but Troy is ahead by a couple months in terms of learning the system. Balti has better rim protection but I think Troy is a better wing defender and has his experience against PBA imports.
If I am Coach Tim, i will pick Troy as well not only because it makes my job easier but because of potential impact on my local club as well (improved confidence on Troy, more experience on the system, etc).

The rift against the Pineda group is probably just cherry on top.

Same here, Tim Cone should stick with Troy,.,. It’s just 2 games anyway. Though match against Taiwan is a must win as we will be defending our fort…

We played against Taiwan at home last year. We've played all our home games already. Both our games this coming window will be away games.

It's great that Gilas will play a pocket tournament in the Middle East as tune up for the 3rd window. I just hope that it will also find a pocket tournament as tune-up for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup.

Hope Gilas is given at least 4 weeks of full time training for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup & the team gets to play at least 8 tune up games prior to that tournament.

There’s a chance Qatar will hold another pocket tournament prior to the Asia Cup.

It makes logical sense and will also draw Filipino crowds.

Maybe Gilas can join this year's Jones Cup as part of its preparation for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. Some national teams in Asia like South Korea, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon might also join the Jones Cup to tune up for the Asia Cup. Of course, there's the host Chinese Taipei which has improved as of late. This would make this year's Jones Cup a good tune-up tournament for the Asia Cup.

PBA season would still be on-going by then.

A likelier scenario is a pocket tournament held by us or Qatar/Saudi a week or two before the Asia Cup.

Not gonna lie. I’m already not liking the PBA’s decision to not give more prep time.

The B.League and KBL boys should be available by then.

When does the 2024-2025 PBA season ends?

This pocket tournament would be a good tune up for Gilas not just for the 3rd window but more importantly for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup itself. Gilas needs as many games, may it be tune up/exhibition games, pocket tournaments or window qualifiers, to play to further develop & improve its cohesion/chemistry, player adjustments with the triangle & players getting used to & getting comfortable with the FIBA/international game.

In this pocket tournament in Qatar, we've got Lebanon & Egypt which we know are good quality teams while host Qatar is getting stronger having 2 world imports in its roster (1 is a naturalized player & the other is declared by FIBA as local).

Assem Marei & Ehab Amin are Egyptians?

The Qatari organisers are banking to draw crowds from large expatriates of participating teams. Based on 2017 population of the emirate, the expats numbers 260,000 Filipinos, 200,000 Egyptians and 24,000 Lebanese. They are preparing for FIBA world cup in 2027.. Qatari organizers hoping for Philippines, Lebanon and Egyptian qualifications.. unlike in Philippines, Qatar is a perfect hosting ground for FIBA since they are nearer by Lebanese, Europeans, African contingents..

I hope SBP will invite South Sudan before their continental cups before August... I think Loul Deng will accept it, as long SBP will provide some cost... Philippines vs SSD will be a good tune up game..
