With that kind of injury, Kai Sotto may be out for FIBA's next window

I wouldn't be surprised if he misses the next window, considering that it's next month and the nature of the injury.

I hope he gets back to 100%, though.

Expect June Mar and Japeth to get extended minutes next month. Same with Tamayo. Hoping that AJ will play. With the looming Kai's absence, CTC needs to call up some available bigmen like Baltazar and Geo Chiu. This is also the reason why we need to get the exemptions in the big positions (QMB, Ange or Philipps).

Good thing we are already qualified. Alfrancis must work his magic and work on QMB. Pray that Edu remains healthy.

Balti should be added to the pool. I hope SMC doesnt hate Delta that much to not pick him.

That's ouch... We have a big momentum but injuries comes... Our chances of winning possible gold medal in Fiba Asia cup will be lessen, since Kai is very big integral part of national team.. even beating Australia is very tough without him...

Japeth will be on standby again.

as discussed before, coach tim is one stubborn coach..

If we had two or three months, we could consider expanding the pool, but with the way things are now, and if you talk to any national team coach nowadays, they’ll tell you it’s the same everywhere. We’re not the only ones doing it this way,” Cone furthered.

He’s wrong that it’s he same everywhere. all NT’s have deeper pool..

The answer is obvious:

he only wants players who already know his system.

Prior to playing for Gilas under coach Tim Cone, guys like Kai Sotto, Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo, Calvin Oftana, Chris Newsome, CJ Perez, Junmar Fajardo didn't know coach Tim's system. But they have learned the system & got used to it as they played more games & practiced with the team under such system. In short, it is a process.

Naka ilang games na ba & practices ang mga non-Ginebra Gilas players under coach Tim's triangle offense? Players like Kai, Dwight & Carl played & practiced with coach Tim's Gilas only for the 1st & 2nd windos & the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Hindi ganoon karaming games yun & practice sessions, yet they already have a good grasp of the triangle. Junmar, CJ Perez, Oftana & Newsome have more games & practices because they played under coach Tim with Gilas in last year's Asian Games, but if you analyze it, hindi pa rin ganoon karaming games yun & practices.

My point here is that if only coach Tim would add around 3 to 4 new players in the Gilas team/pool, after 2 or 3 windows, these new players will have a good grasp of his system. Remember that Gilas will have a longer preparation for the coming 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. If for instance Gilas is given about 4 weeks of training for that tournament, that would be the perfect opportunity for the new players to learn & assimilate themselves with the system, the triangle in particular. Besides, the new players aren't expected to get major minutes & role with the team. They will undergo some sort of immersion naman eh.

what you, or most of us, want is a different matter vs what Alfrancis and CTC wants.I agree with sroth in essence simply because that is what is being shown to us. Oftana, Newsome, Perez and Junmar has been in the PBA for a long time. CTC already knows how they play, and the players, may not know the X and O of CTCs plays but they have a working idea already.

Kai, Dwight, Carl, and KQ are players that PBA wants to be associated with even if they arent in the league yet. all the yapping by some PBA people a year or 2 ago of KBL or JBL pirating players is all about retaining young Pinoy players they feel will keep PBA relevant. and we all know Kai is on top of that list. AJ barely plays because of injury. I have no idea why Amos is in the pool at all. maybe they think he will be KQ like in the future? he is a mirror image of Konov, so dont know what his possible role is in the future.

Tim Cone is really a good coach. Problem though is, sometimes, he thinks insular and he only knows PBA players. Outside Kai, AJ, Carl, KQ and Dwight, he does not like to explore other non-PBA pros. I doubt if he watches KBL and B.League games.

Tim Cone doesn't know how to delegate. A proper program should have a cadet pool. Tim saying he doesn't have time to teach new recruits is complete nonsense. He has assistants who could handle that. Aside from his assistants you have Tenorio, Devance, Hawkins, and Abarrientos who have mastered the triangle who could handle the cadet team's practices.

As Gilas are already assured qualification to 2025 FIBA Asia Cup no need to go all out. As we are playing in Manila against Taiwan that is a must win game to appease home crowd. Whilst away match against Kiwis our boys can just relax and try not to get injuries. I’m sure NZ will be physical and will try to avenge their first leg loss.

Line-up wise, I would be better if CTC make minor changes as not to alter chemistry. If I am him I will keep 10 players from November window and tap Balti as replacement of Kai. Then I would re-activate Malonzo in lieu of KQ who I think will not be available as he still be adjusting with his life in S.Korea…

So the crew would like these : Newsome, Thompson, Malonzo, Perez, Oftana, Ramos, Aguilar, Brownlee, Tamayo, Fajardo, Amos, Baltazar.

Not to push too much I just add the other 2 in the pool : Edu and Kouame. Ange may not be realistic same with Balti as he is not included with Cone’s pool. For me these will suffice. Yes, chemistry is of prime commodity as we have less than 6 months of preparation. I agree with TC send an almost intact crew save maybe or aside from Balti…

Keeping same intact 14 player crew will make wonders. Contingency if Brownlee get injured, Cone elevate Kouame as JBL’s replacement. I believe with that crew we should be OK in Saudi…

After 2025 FIBA Asia I believe that’s the time we’ll make changes at least a maximum of 4 new players…
