BTW, speaking of the case of Qatar team in which majority of their players are foreigners, the current head coach of Qatar is Hakan Demir, who was the coach of Iran national team in last year's Asian Games. When Gilas beat Iran in the quarterfinals of last year's Asian Games, coach Hakan Demir complained that Gilas had lots of foreign players. Well, I would like to know what he has to say now that he is coaching a Qatar United Nations team made up of players from the US, Africa, Bosnia, Montenegro of no Qatari descent.

Lmao. Those "foreign players" are technically natural-born Filipinos. They just grew up in the diaspora. Meanwhile, Qatar players are mostly people with zero ties - ethnicity or "migratory" to Qatar. What Qatar is doing is basically legalized human trafficking.

If he is talking about Ange and JBL, that's just 2/12. At least they have established ties to the PH through residency prior to becoming part of the NT. They were not even "hired" to be "mercenaries". They were imports and eventually had the potential to be part of the NT. Very far cry from what Qatar is doing.

Guys, where was AJ Edu during the HongKong game? I did not see him with the squad.

With QMB and possibly Philips and Ange. Gilas needs more guards than any other position. In local leagues here i dont think theres an answer.

Padrigao hasnt worked on his body so hed still be a liablity not even accounting his shot selection. The rest are too small.

If Remy can go thats all you could ask for otherwise its gonna be stop gaps and converted wings

All this talk of FIBA reclassifying Ange as a local player for Gilas and yet the Jurassic PBA still considers him an IMPORT despite his Filipino citizenship . If our own local league doesn't recognize his Filipino-ness, then why should FIBA?

The largest population of overseas Chinese in world #incredibleasia [HASHTAG="t893"]overseas[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG="t256"]chinese[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG="t124"]china[/HASHTAG] (threads.net)

this Data count is just for legitimate Chinese Naitonals , not mere blood enthnicity , there obviously more than 5 M Chinese Americans in the US. so this isn't really limited to "inelgibles" , what i mean by that is this doesn't count 2nd or 3rd generation Chinese with no longer legal Chinese record documentation like Slow mo Anderson or Lin, and in our case most of our ineligibles.
People need to understand it's documented verified connection to a citizen , NOT biological connection to someone of a type of ethnicity. the latter is really irrelevant.

Noticed the Philippines is not even on the list of Chinese in other countries , despite obviously there are at least 500K Chinese ethnicity (at least half Chinese) based in the Philippines , The point really is this lineage to a ethnicity group with out documented connection to a citizen within 100 years or 3 generations is already too much of a stretch, that's almost half of the population of the world (with some kind of lineage to another country)

Now here is the thing many nations don't even have a 100 year history , so how can we classify their people as having lineage to the land, like NZ is a country made up of immigrants with original people being mainly Polynesian , so therefore anyone with some blood (irish, scotish , moari , samoan who ever set foot as ancestors in NZ , have blood connection to being kiwi LOL , really cannot work as basis

A player candidate for Naturalization in the future should demand SBP to allow him to play in PBA as a local. Bottom team should get the Naturalized slot so they can match up with the power house teams.

Whatever decisions FIBA has done or approved upon on such countries like Nigeria, Bahamas, Qatar among others

personally, as a fan I ain't bother me no more

maybe during my younger days, I would react and start whining in the whole social media universe

for us, we just follow the process and we cannot go wrong moving forward

I'm not posing here as an expertise in law and I stand to be corrected on this..

I haven't read the whole provisions of our constitution but one thing I've saw and I'm talking about the provision on "diaspora".

that all the legitimate, illegitimate even the legally adopted had all the rights under the Philippine Constitution

for as long as the child are officially registered on all Philippine Consulate and official satellite offices.

therefore, if ever there's a chance that an "adoptive" child or children decided to represent the PHI

then no one will question nor oppose on that even the Sec-Gen and it's powerful tech. committee

for as long as the papers are legal and pertinent

I've read a post from someone about the so-called "legal human trafficking"

for me personally, there is no right or wrong on that for as long as the documents are legal

and all parties agreed on everything without pressure, arm twisting and other hanky panky things

then it's a "Go" but if there's an element of negativity on something, then that's another story.

"oopp!! sorry man!! you must not do that".

that is why issues about Sonny Alvarado, Asi Taulava, Rob Parker, Chris Clay among others

should have been resolve if only there's an intelligent mind on those stakeholders during that time

considering all those bballers as per TV and ambush interviews are "willing to represent the 3 stars and a sun" on all levels

it's just that the so-called purists e.g. mainstream media esp. Grandpa Dean, some homegrown bballers, politicians among others

suddenly acted as pure and white and those involved are all filthy.

no doubt there's an element of irregularities no argument there

but at that time FIBA are ain't that stringent as far as dual or multiple passport holder are concern.

if only there's an official press conference and all those involved shouted and uttered "we choose being a Filipino and represent the country on all front".

maybe just maybe issue like that may somehow tempered.

now fast forward, naturalization, multiple passport holder here and there are very much an option nowadays even USA basketball are into that bandwagon

the latest example, Joel Embid an American, Cameroonian and French Passport holder.

oh well!! the beautiful and sultry champion swimmer Akiko Thompson one of my many ultimate drreamgirl of all time whose father is an American and mother a Japanese decided to represent us all along

what i would like to hear is Alfrancis working on the papers of Kouame and QMB

There will never be an accurate estimate of people of Chinese descent in the Philippines because in the first place, the government does not ask for it. They pretty much do not care about one's ethnicity outside of those who are considered indigenous (which is largely cultural and tied to the land that "race"). The DFA does not ask what your ethnicity is when you apply for a passport. And one cannot tell who is Chinese from their surname because many Chinese changed their surnames too - Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian. He's Chinese but his surname is of Tagalog origin.

The 500k that the PH government cite refers to the legal PRC nationals (likely an underestimate since "Alice Guo" fake Filipinos are not uncommon) in the Philippines. People who are ethnically Chinese but hold PH passport are definitely more than 500k. Extremely conservative estimates is 1% of the population which put it at 1.5M. The largest estimate I have seen is 20% which appears to be based on the Spanish colonial records

Just because it is legal does not mean it is right. Marital rape is a new concept in law in many countries. Back then, it was "legal" to rape your spouse. Some countries still consider marital rape as legal.

Is the ban from the SBP or PBA?

The point that a was trying to stress here, is lineage to a country based on ethnicity like Clarkson (neither parent was ever registered as a Philippine citizen) is irrelevant, so should really not be the basis of our complaints to FIBA., which unfortunately is what everyone highlights as their gripe. Objectively Clarkson actually even has less of basis of genuine connection to the Philippines as compared to Harris , (at least in Harris case it's claimed he's been a resident and has actually played in their domestic league , plus he is now leading youth development in the country) , Clarkson does have any advantage in terms of lineage connection if at all that was even a factor , cause Harris can always say that ancient Qatar has some ancestorial roots to Africans .. (they are all connected in some way)

Now if you look at it from the perspective and not from internally from a Philippine view, you can see why all these complaints by Filipino fans on not allowing Clarkson and other Fil ams to be eligible are downright laughable and embarrassing. I'm serious that how it's viewed globally. bTW not justifying Qatar action with Harris here. just citing how hypocritical one's perspective can be , without thinking holistically

Laughable and embarrassing is your own weird anti pinoy bias coming through. Again these guys would be eligible if FIFA not FIBA were making the rules. Its perfectly reasonable to dislike these rules and ask for change. Unless you think the biggest sports federation's rules are laughable and embarrassing.

that's beside the point; the reality is the rules have been in place for 15 years now, with a clear criterion (documented evidence (passport, registered citizenship, birth certificate etc) on the basis of eligibility, yet we keep on ignoring the criteria and insist it should have a different criterion based on what we consider is right . if FIFA rules for example requires that a parent or grandparent is a former citizen or resident , and if our player we are arguing to be eligible does not meet the requirement , then that would be laughable as well if our football federation insisted that FIFA follow our own different basis of eligibility, that's the point.
Now granted FIBA rules need improvement , there is a forum and process to recommend changes , not the public or complaining about others who follow the process and criteria and get their players exempted , that makes us look stupid and look ignorant of nuances of policy and processes

You specifically called out the fans not the federation. The fans have every right to complain.

if it isn't appropriate for the federation to complain on the basis of lineage , (after an educated in depth analysis of the issue) , then while it is understandable for fans to complain about "meron blood " it can be established the fans are misguided (not realizing the full situation)

Good Day Sir Art,

I totally agree on all degree if the topic is all about "Marital Rape with the legal wife". both sides had the rights to say "Oh Yes" and Oh No" for the meantime.

but the narrative is all about choosing the "allegiance" storyline.

if I heard and read something about "well there's a hanky panky thing" that surrounds why he or she choose that flag instead.

then I will also be one of those IBNers who will do the rumbling on all active threads coz it really ain't cool on all degree.

let's leave that part to FIBA Sec. Gen and let's attend to our own backyard instead.

because in reality, even though the recent games of our team feels good inside

the reality is our 4 and 5 spots are still vulnerable and glassy moving forward

thank goodness QMB statement about his ph docs since he is still a boy is a welcome development

but we really need more for that ceiling.

down the line there's a still possibility that someone a super talented kid(s) either legally adopted by a Filipino parent(s) or

a foreign family with their kids living domestically and without a single drop of Filipino blood suddenly pop up in the limelight

telling everyone " I want to be a legit Filipino, pls. help me process the docs needed and my parents agreed on everything".

that's one of the possible scenarios down the road.

it's really a case to case basis and no one will questioned us about "human trafficking" because we do it legally

the right thing.

Just want to understand. Tyler Harris is now a Qatari NT after playing for just 3 years or less in Qatar. He started in 2020 and already recognized as a Qatari in WASL in 2023. So why is Koume not recognized as a Filipino as he has played in Philippines longer
