Looks like we're in a tough group. We face Chinese Taipei and NZ in Group B.

CT is very beatable as long we send our best with proper preparations. When was the last time they beat us at full strength? If we lose to CT twice, then that's strike no. 1 for the SMC-SBP leadership.

I'll give them 3 strikes till I boycott Gilas games until these wankers fuck off.

NZ? We need to beat these fuckers.

Group B.

Hong Kong
News Zealand

Yeah, as what Reamily said in the Jones Cup thread, "Malakas lang sila (Chinese-Taipei) kapag Jones Cup".

If I remember it right, 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, in Manila.

CT was lead by that player with an emo haircut. It happened when PHL and Taiwan was having a diplomatic row regarding territorial fishing grounds. and our fishermen were being detained in Taiwan, So the game had emotional and nationalistic pride overtones.

Yeah, we need to send good players. Good thing we have a potential core in Dwight, Kai, and AJ. Hopefully, Kai, AJ, Dwight, Carl, Abando, Parks, Bolick, and RJ are available by Feb 2024, as are Malonzo, Navarro (hope he can fully recover), June Mar, and Ange.

Ironic as they are now our allies against China's 9-Dash Line.

The same core as our 2023 WC with some tweaks should do. They should name a permanent HC but I won't mind if Jong becomes our interim.

Dwight
AJ
Kai
Brownlee / Ange
Abando

Scottie
Malonzo
Junemar
BRP
Tamayo
Heading
Bolick

Reserve:
Oftana
Navarro
Japeth
Lassiter
RJ Abarrientos
Amos
Quiambao
Arvin Tolentino
Geo Chiu
Tuffin
Dave Ildefonso

No Ravena brothers and Pogoy please!

Pinoy fans in Hong Kong will finally watch the Gilas game live in Hong Kong… good treat for Pinoy fans out there.. it will surely a “homecourt” advantage for Filipinos there in Hong Kong… I’m sure Pinoys will mark the date of Gilas game in Hong Kong to take a dayoff from their works just to watch that game.. same also in Taiwan… I want Guam but it is what it is already…

More ironic because Beijing doubled down and sided with Taiwan with its claim. LOL. Anyways Im rooting for CT to get back on its track. They've been in the doldrums since like forever. Its better to have more competition in our region, Who wants to play minnows and trashy teams. The harder the competition, the more beneficial to the PHL Basketball in general.

Good news, is we have a number of players in the 2023 WC team within the 1996-2002 age group, namely Kai, AJ, Dwight, Abando, and Malonzo. Quality players in that range too in Carl, Navarro, Heading, and RJ (who should be in future lineups, or at the very least in consideration). They can be long-term players. Hopefully, we get some younger prospects in the February 2025 window, and minimize older players (specifically in the 1989 and earlier age range; ideally only 1-2 players from that age range) unless we absolutely need them.

The frontline of Kai, AJ, Ange and Carl give me an erection. LOL. Kidding aside, the 4 plus Balti were supposed to be the core frontline for the 2023 WC team.

This was established back when the Kai-AJ-Carl were still playing in the youth teams. It was reinforced and further solidify back in 2021 with the addition of Balti and Ange.

This frontline coulda shoulda reached maturity and ready to be used in the 2023 WC.

I think one of the things the SBP could/SHOULD actually do is convince the 26 year old Sedrick Barefield to enter the draft next year and work on his exemption in time for the next World Cup. And not only Barefield but also fast track the exemptions of promising players like Brandon Ganuelas Rosser, Kai Balunggay, Michael Phillips, Zavier Lucero, Christian David and Chris Koon.

they tried for BGR but it was denied, that is why Quinito was ranting about that blood should be thicker than soil, as MGR is eligible because he was born in the Philippines while his brother not which is stupid from FIBA as they have the same lineage only the difference is the place of birth

Very easy to predict the top 2 teams each of every group that will qualify directly for 2025 fiba asia cup (except for group E)

in group A, Australia and Korea will be easily the top 2 teams here.. Australia for sure will sweep this group while Koreans will be east 4-2 beating both Thailand and Indonesia… while the final battle between Thailand and Indonesia will determine what line up they will bring… slight advantage to Indonesia if they parade Bolden.. no one in Thailand can match up against bolden.. Thailand might have advantage in guard positions due to Lish, Morgan and possibly Lamb but Prastawa and Grahita are already veterans and can hang on vs Thai guards, but Thailand will have a problem guarding Bolden, I think bolden is one of the best naturalized players in Asia right now… but if bolden is not available, Prosper can do the job anyway against the likes of Jakrawan… Indonesia might sweep Thailand in their 2 game series…

Australia 6-0
Korea 4-2
Indonesia 2-4
Thailand 0-6

Group B is very easy too… New Zealand will be favorite s in this group while Gilas will be top 2… Taiwan will be no.3 and playing for playoff game for last chance for qualifying for all 3rd seeded teams… Hong Kong will be always cellar dwellers whatever they will be group.. A U16 team of Philippines or Taiwan can beat the national team of Hong Kong already…

New Zealand 6-0
Philippines 4-2
Taiwan 2-4
Hong Kong 0-6
