With the way Thailand is playing right now, they will poise as big challenge for perennial contenders Philippines and reigning kings Indonesia fighting for gold medal in next year’s seagames… if Thailand somehow have a legit big man, they can beat Indonesia.. they need to match bolden (or prosper if the latter is not available) and DMX because one of the reasons Indonesia win over Thailand because of size discrepancy

With the line-up that beat Jordan, I don't see Indonesia beating Gilas twice in a row.

Even with Jakrawan, Patipan and Lamb playing, that Gilas team is a souped up team, from players to coaches. I don't see Thailand beat Gilas. Maybe, they will give a good fight but that's it.

Guam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia will advance to the second round.

The lose of Tahiti, arguably the second strongest team in the Pacific next to Guam, of their games really exposes the level of FIBA-Oceania outside Australia and New Zealand.

For me, FIBA needs to help the region further.

I think, Pacific countries have the longest and tougher process to qualify for the World Cup.

This is their qualification process looks like:

1. FIBA Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia Cups
2. Pacific Games
3. FIBA-Asia Cup pre-qualifiers
4. FIBA-Asia Cup qualifiers
5. FIBA World Cup continental qualifiers

Vietnam are not yet qualified, they are in do or die match vs Malaysia today and whoever wins will take the last slot for 2nd round

Mongolia 59-52 Thailand at halftime for the top spot in their group.

I have high hopes for Mongolia in this cycle. A fanbase just as passionate as ours, at least crowds-wise, a great mix of the old and the new, and a hustling NSD mentality. I hope they can make it to the FIBA Asia Cup so that I could see Sanchir play for his country at least once in the main tournament.

They have to beat either Taipei, Indonesia or Guam to reach that level? the big 6 of east Asia/Oceania are already untouchables? so only two spots will be up for grabs for other east region teams to enter in the main proper of continental competition? as I know, Mongolia is somehow below Taipei or slightly better than Hong Kong?

Vietnam faltered. No Johnny Juzang nor Jaylin Williams. Tsk tsk

That wiggle headed guard of Vietnam has no basketball IQ for a guard… too much dribbling and too much ball hogging cost their way

Yeah, Mongolia needs to beat any of those teams to be considered at the same level as them. And yeah, I consider them a bit stronger than HK but below Taiwan or Guam.

This is a classic game. For a level lower than Asian-level, this is a treat.

4-point play by their new guy Anand for 20 points in the game. Mongolia in the lead.

Thailand 109 - 105 Mongolia.

Three straight 3s for Lish in the last 2 minutes of the game to seal the deal for the Thais. GGWP Mongolia.

30 points from Lish, 26 from Morgan, and 23 from Jaisanuk for Thailand. For Mongolia, they had 31 from Bilguun, 23 from Sanchir, and 20 from their new guy Anand.

Thailand, Mongolia, and Malaysia all made it to the Second Round and will join Guam, Hong Kong, and Singapore in Group F. Top 4 teams from each of the two groups make it to the Qualifiers proper.

Group E

Palestine 2-0
Qatar 2-0
UAE 1-1
Iraq 1-1
Kuwait 0-2
Oman 0-2

Group F

Guam 2-0
Thailand 2-0
Hong Kong 1-1
Mongolia 1-1
Singapore 0-2
Malaysia 0-2

Did Lish get an exemption from FIBA like Morgan did? Did he have a Thai passport before turning 16? Or did he take the NP slot?
