Edu's good, really good. I don’t even know where that “too soft” comment came from.
He's literally our best local defender. I don’t think he should be called soft just because he’s injury-prone.
If we’re being literal, a glass is far more durable and incomparable despite being prone to breaking, compared to something truly soft like cotton.
He was averaging 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds over 14 games on his pro rookie year in Toyama, which is a solid sample size to assess a player. Even the PBA only has 11 games per team in a regular season conference. He played 29 minutes per game before his injury, those stats are almost identical to Kai’s best season so far in his pro career this season.
Right now, Edu is averaging 5 points and 5 rebounds, but he’s still getting 22 minutes per game. You don’t get that kind of playing time out of 40 minutes just for putting up 5 and 5. He’s their regular import defender and team stopper.
In an alternate universe where injuries don’t exist, he’s probably playing in the NBA as a role-playing big man and defensive specialist. His rookie year in Toledo showed a lot of promise, and he was on an upward trajectory in his sophomore year until multiple major injuries struck.
