Giving them exposure earlier in their careers is what i meant..

he should not give alas, gemao, pre late exposure to seniors..

When he'll give exposure to them when they're 30?

That's just about as PBA as you can get. Meanwhile, Japan got a pipeline of guys like Watanabe and Kawamura who started out as the last guys on the bench in the senior team fresh from U18's but end up establishing pro careers while being on the pool for competitions when available and actually progressing the more they get in FIBA minutes. Notice how great they became after they got their shit together when merging their leagues in 2016.

I'd like nothing more than the PBA to burn itself to the ground just to have a fresh restart. I really can't see a future for guys like Alas and Gemao in the PBA, they're better off abroad than wasting their potential... by being treated like they're still being developed even at age 26.

I might sound like a Tab defender already, but is there even any coach in the local scene who could have turned that Ateneo team into a Final Four contender? After Mason surprisingly left them hanging, the team's morale hit rock bottom. Along with an FSA who doesn’t even seem to know how to play basketball properly, their playoff hopes became even harder to achieve. And even though they finished last, they were only one or two games behind the last Final Four team, if I’m not mistaken. A Kouame-like FSA would have made them a Final Four team.

But Amos wasn't really that much of a difference-maker for Ateneo's plans. At best, he would have given Tab a 5-out option to neutralize whatever advantage teams with freak FSA's have had. He actually posts up more in La Salle and that's with guys like Mike Phillips and FSA's.

As for Ateneo, I kinda miss the banter with them now we gotta deal with the dipshit bandwagoners from UP. It's not as if they were 0-14, they lost two close games that would have made them challenge for a Final Four. They started winning when Bahay became a bit more creative with the ball. The kid made the right choice to go to Ateneo and have Tenorio-like freshman minutes instead of being on the bench in UP.

A player's coach like Topex would've been able to keep Kai B, Jared Brown, Gab Gomez and Mason Amos. You have a good chance at the final four if everyone stays. Remember the rumor was that the Fil Ams where unhappy with Tab's unceremonious cutting of Paul Garcia. Rumor looks true now considering how many of them left early.

You can't cherrypick attributes, all coaches has pros and cons (which usually intertwines). Guys like Riley and Bobby Knight are also difficult coaches but among the most successful. Since there are winners and losers in sports, it's far easier to just look at their overall results.

One thing I notice with Tab is that he likes to handicap his teams. The academic requirements takes out a lot of prospects and then he doesn't rely too much on older players. With Gilas he also went young. Seems like he wants to prove that system beats talent.

I've mentioned before that Riley's (Miami Heat) style works for players who are young and over-achievers, not so much for established stars and old guys. I think it's similar with Tab.

Their decision to leave Ateneo was a personal choice, not because they had issues with Tab.

Kai B got married the same year he left. Turning pro was a no-brainer since he needed to provide for his family. Mason went to Ateneo because of Tab, but we all know his roots are with La Salle. Tab's effort in recruiting him was the reason he chose Ateneo. His departure was no longer Tab's fault. Jared Brown and Gab Gomez left because they knew they wouldn't get good minutes with the arrival of new guard recruits.

A rumor is still a rumor. All of those guys you mentioned are still in contact with Tab and still follow him on Instagram. If Tab were truly the reason they left, there would have been reports by now. With how basketball is also treated like showbiz in this country, anything would have already been spilled.

But let's focus on the coaching aspect itself. Would Topex have made that Ateneo team a Final Four team last year? I doubt it.

Why would he stick to Ateneo? Kai's idiot handlers then at EWP were convinced he could rejoin G-League Ignite in the bubble after having spent weeks in quarantine for a 2-day practice in Calamba (with Kiefer being the only PBA player in Tab's Gilas practices, and this was when Thirdy hasn't made public his B.League plan yet)... and it backfired spectacularly in his face where he ended up doing them Star Margarine and Smart commercials before going back to the US where he'd spend even more time in quarantine until he wasn't even allowed in the G-League Bubble.

His Gilas games at the AUF gym vs Korea and Indonesia were nothing more than coincidental-consuelo de bobo for being kicked out of the G-League. Best guess is that Kai's people were already looking at the LaMelo Ball route (and if you believe that Snow Badua, there were also standing offers in Europe). Going to Ateneo was the last resort.

Did they even asked permission from B. Shaw and the team to leave? I remember reading he was surprised about the decision and sounded annoyed and implied he'd rather have him practice and play with them than play those meaningless games.

IMO those commercials probably had a huge role in convincing his handlers in abandoning the g League experiment. They knew that decision could get him kicked off the team yet they still rather burn bridges with possible future employers for pennies. Then somehow people turned on Shaw, the team, Jalen, Kuminga, Todd etc and wished them all kinds of misfortunes

You can get Kai B to stay with proper resource allocation, being able to politic with sponsors.Just one of the jobs of a coach. Ateneo has resources, you dont outbid UP for Jared Bahay without resources.

Also Jared Brown wouldve gotten a ton of minutes in Ateneo. Ian Espinosa was awful. Gab Gomez wouldve gotten minutes too, when you are last place you try everything. Its not just Xs and Os. Tab has that covered, heck he is almost certainly the best in the UAAP. Its the other aspects of coaching wherein Tab has a weakness. Last place speaks for itself.

I just hope that coach Tim Cone's proposal of an "every Monday" Gilas practices would be approved by the PBA. 9 days of practice (which may even be less) won't cut it if Gilas has to beat Chinese Taipei & New Zealand.

If the "every Monday" practice kicks off anytime soon then that would give Gilas an additional 9 to 11 practices which will have a signifficant impact on the team's preparedness for the 2025 Asia Cup..Indeed, having 18 or 19 days of practice is much better than having just 8 days of practice.

Speaking of preparation, our groupmate New Zealand is scheduled to have some series of tuneup games vs. Australia starting May 7. This only means that 3 months before the 2025 Asia Cup, the Tall Blacks & the Boomers are already starting their preparation & training for that tournament.

On the other hand the South Korea national team is expected to start their training camp early or middle of June. Japan is expected to do the same or perhaps the Japanese will hit training camp starting late June.

By the middle of July, these teams - NZ, Australia, Korea & Japan, will already be deep into their preparation for the Asia Cup.

Gilas on the other hand will start its full time training late July or about a week before the tournament. Gilas however can practice once a week or the "every Monday" practice that coach Tim Cone plans to do (which I hope will push through) which can start middle of May. This "every Monday" practices can give Gilas additional 9 to 10 practice days which will be very valuable & would be very crucial on Gilas chances in the tournament.

No, because they can avoid much harsher penalties if they accept the finding that will cause brownlees basketball career to.abruptly end..

Again is tim thinking possibility of 39 year old brownlee come 2027? Better cut the "gains", as brownlee brought so much to the country already and have the next np ( poor smc on expecting boatwright to cone over") be immersed to the team..

Sbp is just waiting for tim and smc blessing to push for ron harpers passport...

I just don't know what Gilas would look like not having a go-to-guy naturalized player like JB & instead would rely on a tall naturalized player in Ange Kouame who is more of a role playing big man. Parang nasanay na kasi mga local Gilas players having JB as their go-to-guy player.

I just hope Gilas ends up with Ron Harper, Jr. as its naturalized player in the Asia Cup.

Fat chance.

The most realistic is JC as far as go-to scorers are concerned.

Tim is 67 yo and extremely stubborn. He’d still choose an injured Brownlee if he could. If he still rejects Clarkson albeit the former’s availability, then he is an idiot.

I won’t be surprised if the reason we still haven’t heard from FIBA is because of Cone’s camp insisting on Brownlee’s appeal.

We can get clarkson but its super impractical hahah..its sbp fault also..
