FIBA-Asia Cup 2025 Saudi Arabia

It's hard to scrimmage when U got only 5 or 6 players ( Dwight, Edu, Tamayo, KQ, Brownlee & perhaps Mason Amos). Best alternative is to join Ginebra practices from time to time aside from the "every Monday" Gilas practice.

I just think it's bullshit how Tab Baldwin was crucified for having a Gilas scrimmage of all-Ateneo players to start World Cup qualifying with players like Tamayo, Balti, RJ having to go back to their schools, Kai had to pick up what's left of his G-League career at that time, Heading headed back home to Australia... at a time when the PBA had nothing to do with Gilas during the pandemic (which led to his sudden resignation and all out hate for Chot) then no one bats an eye that CTC's team of even fewer PBA players can't do much without the guys playing abroad.

people here are giving a pass on tim cone but not on tab..

Tab Baldwin tried to prevent Kai from going to the US or Europe and wanted him to stick to Ateneo. He deserves criticism.

To be fair with tim, the limited day of practice was a rule for other guys to do their outside stuff and prevent guys to comein days before tournament while others already preparing for a month or so (ahem clarkson, kai and ceratinly will happen with quiambao) but again they can do some stuff just before kquiam goes abroad..

We'll see 95 percent jones cup will happen before asia cup we will see taiwan prepare for this, and expect sga to field a team.

like this one.. giving tim a pass..

tim deserves to be criticise.. he has the most titles in PBA doesn’t mean he gets a pass..

he’s a NT coach but he doesn’t act like one.. lack of awareness to how things runs for NT..

Tab got a hell of a pass by the fans. Even when he did stupid things like trying to bring Kai to the UAAP. Its the powers that be wherein Tim Cone is more well thought off.

As much as it was a poor decision by Tab, it wasn’t related to Gilas. At that time, Kai wasn’t yet part of the senior program.

It was more of a personal and school-related matter.

Even if Kai had gone to the UAAP, he would still have ended up in the B.League like where he is now, right?

Tab, as a coach, is incredibly good. Going overseas was definitely the right choice for Kai, but playing under Tab wouldn’t have been bad either. I assume he would’ve only spent 1 to 2 years in the UAAP since he’s clearly overqualified for the local collegiate scene.

After all, had he left the UAAP after a year or two season, his only option would’ve been to go overseas anyway. And who knows, playing competitively in the UAAP could have been better than that one year he spent not playing in the G League. He basically wasn’t playing pro basketball for almost a year during that time, before playing in NBL.

Did KQ will participate Summer league? So that means he is also not available for most of Gilas practice... He will be busy in summer league sessions from late June to mid July at peak...

Well KQ hardly gets playing time in Gilas' big games so maybe coach Tim can afford KQ not getting enough practices with Gilas prior to the Asia Cup. KQ is perhaps a 10th or an 11th man in the roster so ok lang that he'll miss a number of practices.

But to be honest, I like coach Tim to give KQ ample playing time & scoring opportunities at Gilas. I'm thinking maybe KQ should eat up some of the minutes of Calvin Oftana who has struggled with his shooting in the FIBA game.

Tab is good but he just got last place in the UAAP. I think he has issues dealing with individual personalities and thats his weakness as a coach. Its what got Ateneo screwed last season and its also why he wasnt able to last as the NT coach.

Question

does tim knows the players like kieffer alas? andy gemao? veejay pre? jared bahay? javi GDL? dalph panopio? even does he know ron harper jr.? (i know i suggest this one real hard) does he know francis lopez?

Ive always thought prioritizing the NT is a bandaid to hide our real issue, which is poor youth development. Our top local prospects are long shots to make D1(Gemao/Alas). Is that gonna change anytime soon? Ideally we should aim to develop NBA level talent but when even D1 is an issue, I think the future aint great. So complain all you want about the NT but the root issues will remain unchanged until we fix something(resource allocation).

if that "every Monday Practice only" pushes thru..hmm..

let's put it into details for a particular scenario: assuming the current conf ends on July 27 and our very first game in FIBA Asia starts on the 5th of Aug.

if they decided to start it in first week of June up to last week of July.

there are 5 Mondays in the month of June plus 4 Mondays for the month of July

which is July 28.

so that's only 9 days plus from July 29 to Aug. 4 it's 7 days

so overall it's just 16 days.

oh dear!!! that's not enough bec. ballers from SMB and TNT will only available on the 28th assuming they are the one who will play for the championship and the series stretches until Game 7.

as per Grandpa Dean, CTC will gave those players at least 3 days of rest so meaning that team will only be completed on the 31st

so overall, it will only takes 4 days for them to re-familiarize again to the Triangle, each other's tendencies and other x's and o's.

man oh man!!!

enough of that "every Monday thing" sasama lang kalooban natin sa resulta ng mga laro against those toughies trans. it will not be beneficial and inspiring on Team PHIL for the coming edition.

as I said many times before and until now,

because of circumstances, attending the Barangay practice is the best option

"kunsabagay" if the real intention was to defend the Asian Games basketball gold at all cost next year.

then finishing in the top 10 is the realistic goal for Gilas Men for FIBA Asia Cup if the "every monday practice will be the unanimous choice.

Thinking Tim is the one to deal with the development of Kieffer and Andy is massive mistake. The seniors national team being the ones in charge of developing talents is wrong thinking. Mason's development is mostly on La Salle, not on Tim even if he is part of the pool. Much more Kieffer and Andy.

Giving them exposure earlier in their careers is what i meant..

he should not give alas, gemao, pre late exposure to seniors..

When he'll give exposure to them when they're 30?

CTC is already 67, I think this is his last run. Then it will be a question of continuity(triangle) vs something new altogether. Personally, I think we should move on from the triangle past Tim Cone and hard reset once he is done.

I might sound like a Tab defender already, but is there even any coach in the local scene who could have turned that Ateneo team into a Final Four contender? After Mason surprisingly left them hanging, the team's morale hit rock bottom. Along with an FSA who doesn’t even seem to know how to play basketball properly, their playoff hopes became even harder to achieve. And even though they finished last, they were only one or two games behind the last Final Four team, if I’m not mistaken. A Kouame-like FSA would have made them a Final Four team.

Tab Baldwin tried to prevent Kai from going to the US or Europe and wanted him to stick to Ateneo. He deserves criticism.

Why would he stick to Ateneo? Kai's idiot handlers then at EWP were convinced he could rejoin G-League Ignite in the bubble after having spent weeks in quarantine for a 2-day practice in Calamba (with Kiefer being the only PBA player in Tab's Gilas practices, and this was when Thirdy hasn't made public his B.League plan yet)... and it backfired spectacularly in his face where he ended up doing them Star Margarine and Smart commercials before going back to the US where he'd spend even more time in quarantine until he wasn't even allowed in the G-League Bubble.

His Gilas games at the AUF gym vs Korea and Indonesia were nothing more than coincidental-consuelo de bobo for being kicked out of the G-League. Best guess is that Kai's people were already looking at the LaMelo Ball route (and if you believe that Snow Badua, there were also standing offers in Europe). Going to Ateneo was the last resort.
