Guys, thank you for the correction

I think I should add in that statement " possible NBA Summer Camp Call-up".

I slipped on that,..I'm not being mindful on that very first line..." bitin yun sentence"

I totally agree on the so-called "he must improve"...e.g. handles and footworks

I think the advantages on KQuiam for now is his big hands and BBIQ.

at his age those handles and footworks should had been address when he is still in his childhood years.

again I will borrow Sir Metta's "10k hrs."

I'm talking about all sports in general.

all aspiring athletes nowadays should learned that principle,

Alex Eala, Carlos Yulo, EJ Obiena, Wesley So, Daniel Quizon, Sandro Reyes and Yuka Saso pop-up in mind.

Speaking of KQ, he's 6'4 and in KBL looks to be a volume shooter, he does not have the handles of a guard or wing to be an effective 2-3 player. He does not have the foot speed to guard the quicker players. Im wondering if his NBA opportunities might be influenced by connections rather than purely his on-court abilities.

Yeah, KQ looks like a volume shooter playing for his KBL team in Korea. But I'm thinking of KQ playing like the way he played for the Strong Group Athletics team in the 2024 international tournament in Dubai in which he was more of a catch-and-shoot 3-pt shooter than someone who created his shot off the dribble. In the KBL, it looks like KQ is given the latitude in offense, hence his high volume of shots plus he is compelled to create his shots off the dribble which of course requires decent ball handling. KQ being originally developed as a big man during his teens didn't really develop ball handling skills in the same level as a natural wingman or a guard who have done, hence his suspect handles.

I think it was 3 to 4 years ago that KQ transitioned from a natural "four" to a wingman. I think it was a bit late already. Perhaps it would have been different if KQ transitioned from a big guy to a wingman when he was 16 or 17 years old. You can see the difference with the way KQ plays & the way a Dwight Ramos plays. Si Dwight, natural na natural yung dribbling eh, hence his ability to create his shot off the dribble is definitely significantly better than KQ.

as per recent online interview the main profile on Kevin Quiambao's NBA Training Camp journey was he will be introduce as a Shooting Guard.

I think the realistic and most ideal trajectory for KQ is Kyle Korver, Kevin Huerter, Luke Kennard, Grayson Allen, Donte DiVincenzo among others

IMO, those players are not that elite in terms of handles and defense but they are literally there just for shooting.

I think that would be a good discussion on Kevin Quiambao as far as Shooting Guard conversation are concern.

If the PBA All-star festivities would be cancelled, would this mean the 2024-2025 PBA season would end earlier than planned?

Well, I hope so. Becoz if the 2024-2025 PBA season ends earlier than planned then that could mean additional few days of Gilas team preparation for the 2025 Asia Cup. An additional 4 to 5 days of Gilas team preparation would be of significant help to the national team.

The PBA elims ends on June 15: https://www.facebook.com/pbaofficial/posts/pfbid021vQbDpE67kKMMtXAVqvHhe2ggidDbRADeysBiKvyghG 8LRrcwGTBLWDSkAn5rCtsl

Playoffs end in July if we keep the past all-Filipino playoff format.

In a time where we need as much training and rest time for Gilas, the PBA goes back to the Sun-Wed-Fri-Sat schedule for the conference closest to the Asia Cup.

I hope it's not too close for comfort, and that the team chemistry can overcome the lack of training time. Hope that the key PBA players are healthy by the Asia Cup too.

he’s a unique player in that he has a decently high BBIQ and really good passing ability. The problem with his shooting is he’s averaging 32% from 3 on 7 attempts. Now if we were to go deeper, it’s harder to say how many are from self creation vs more off ball catch and shoot situations without watching him. I would guess it’s higher when he plays more off ball. His free throw percentage is encouraging at 81%. The real kicker I think that separates him is his passing and vision. He has the ability of a guard in that area but his lack of handles and quickness are limiting him from switching to that but I think he’s still useful as a “connector” who can make reads in the wing and find cutters and open players or in he can operate as a playmaker in short roll situations. He’s someone I’d say like Slow mo but an undersized version

It's not just about team chemistry/cohesion eh. I think the team's cohesion/chemistry is already there but the players still need reps playing together becoz we have to remember Gilas players come from different leagues (PBA, B-league & KBL) & teams which run different systems. Gilas players need to rekindle the feel of playing with each other as one cohesive unit under coach Tim's system. And that process takes time.

That's why no matter how cohesive a team is, they still continue to practice or scrimage.

The Gilas-2 of coach Chot Reyes was already cohesive prior to the 2014 FIBA World Cup. But that team prepared/trained for 2 good months & played a good No. of tune-up games to become battle ready against world class teams. That was why that team was able to put huge scare against Croatia, Argentina & Puerto Rico & scored a victory over Senegal. If that team trained for only 10 days prior to the World Cup & I'm pretty sure puro tambak yung mga talo natin against Croatia. Argentina & Puerto Rico & we would have not beaten Senegal.

Good Day Sir Rod,

bullseye po bossing.

also, his big hands was also a big factor despite lacking on those footworks and handles which I think could be improve on moving forward.

just hire a solid skill coach I think he can hold himself.

that gym rat attitude is also one of his forte.

... you mean "KeVin QUiAmBaO GiNuLaT AnG MuNdO"?

I don't know, there's still a good portion of fans who are convinced he's 6'6 as opposed to realistically being 6'4 with a long wingspan and big hands.

The fact that he's humble about being given the shock trooper treatment at Gilas playing 2 minutes a game when it's obviously a piss-poor attempt by SMC/PBA at making him look like an amateur just like every PBA player under 24 speaks of his professionalism... so maybe if he gets a shot at a G-League roster spot, he might be willing to take less money and go the Ray Parks route.

Completely agree with the assessment on the handles, he's not making any NBA team if he can't do the primary ball handler role. No one's giving him the ball for catch and shoots, no 6'1 Arabs or Koreans for him to back down for his jump hook, he's not switching on wings who are actually 6'6 without shoes... and this is my favorite non-PBA player I'm talking about.

Then again, he wasn't really a scoring threat when Chot had him so assuming he eventually will develop his handles, sana lang kahit Derrick White o Josh Hart level pwede na. Right now he's a poor man's Norm Powell or Lu Dort with some passing.

KQ's a little bit under 6'4 barefoot so in the NBA he'll be listed at least 6'5 and be negligibly as tall as guys around that height. And he'll have above average length for his height.

As much as he has challenges on the offensive side, his bigger problem is on defense. He'll have to either make himself much quicker or much stronger, or a little bit of both. Athletically, I don't know if he meets the bare minimum needed so he has to make it up in other aspects.

Offensively, I think he's one of those guys that you can't pigeonhole (which the NBA accepts). So far in his career, he's always found a way to contribute offensively in different scenarios. He just knows how to play and has good BBIQ. High BBIQ guys play better when he has better teammates. His passing especially will be enhanced. His shooting form is good and he just has to have a quicker release and just reps against longer/quicker defenders.

For me, the number 1 thing he has to work on initially is his posture. He needs to be able to play lower if he wants better defense, handles and quickness. Then foot-speed drills every single day. Even big lumbering NBA guys improve their footspeed when they do drills everyday. Then of course, improve handles. This is where work ethic (and obsession) comes in.

All of this could have been more achievable if he did the correct training earlier (like BJreload said), but at least he's trying. At the end of the day, he'll be a better player for trying which is a win for Gilas.

Still think the short preps are due to the contract clauses of the foreign based players

Or pba doesnt adjust its schedule to fiba asia cup tournament. Kbl and japan guys will be free from june onwards meanwhile pba still ongoing.

h

The problem with monday pracitices is its gonna just be the PBA boys plus Mason Amos.

It might be opposite the japan boys and kbl boys are free and treat this as "papawis" and pba guus will be preoccupied..although it opens a little chance that they expand their super shallow pool hhehe

The Japan and Korea boys are already done except Tamayo and KQ (summer league).

it will be fine.

I think by late May the KBL finals will already be over so even if Carl Tamayo's team makes it to the finals, Tamayo will be available for Gilas practices by early June. AJ Edu & Dwight Ramos are already done with their 2024-2025 season with their respective teams in the B-league, so as KQ with his KBL stint for the 2024-2025 season. Meaning by early June, everybody can attend the "every Monday" Gilas practice that coach Tim is planning to do.

Well, I'm glad that coach Tim is planning the "every Monday" Gilas practice. Hope it pushes thru.

It doesn’t even have to be every Monday.

the non-PBA guys can also do 3-4 times a week practice.

It's hard to scrimmage when U got only 5 or 6 players ( Dwight, Edu, Tamayo, KQ, Brownlee & perhaps Mason Amos). Best alternative is to join Ginebra practices from time to time aside from the "every Monday" Gilas practice.

I think not too many Pinoy basketball enthusiasts are aware that by late May or early June, that is already the tailend of the season of most pro basketball leagues in Asia like the B-league & KBL. Yun na actually yung championship series ng mga liga na yan. Some leagues in Asia end their season earlier than that. Yung iba, by early May tapos na yung season nila.

Nasanay na kasi tayo sa ating beloved PBA which runs for 14 months per season(just a hyperbole:cool:).

Did KQ will participate Summer league? So that means he is also not available for most of Gilas practice... He will be busy in summer league sessions from late June to mid July at peak...
