Don't think FIBA Asia is ready to group Australia with Philippines yet lol, pretty sure the bad blood will always be there after that 2018 brawl
Pray it also happens in the WCQ.

i say they should be group together for this asia cup, create another brawl so fiba being grouped together in wcq will be impossible lol kidding
I totally agree on all degree about Ron Harper Jr.'s inclusion for the coming event.
as a possible replacement for JB for that naturalization spot."if worse comes to worst".
as much as we want RHJ occupied that local status instead but rules is rules.
we could probably tap him all the way to next year's Asian Games alongside JB, JC and AK34
the good thing about Ron Jr.'s inclusion is that it is also his mom and dad's dream that they
could see their boy(s) plays for Gilas one of these days.
who knows if the stars aligns to us we could see the Harper boys plays alongside JJ on the next batch after LA2028
Draw is tomorrow. Let's hope for the best.
If no behind the scenes truly happens, KSA choosing to be in pot 1 could bite them in the ass. They could end up drawing Lebanon, Jordan, and Qatar.
My stand is, we convince Ron Harper, Jr. to play as Gilas naturalized player in the coming 2025 Asia Cup if JB's suspension would be more than 3 months. I have a strong feeling Ron Harper Jr. would be willing to play for Gilas. Ron Jr. may just be 6-foot-4/6-foot-5 shooting guard, but he has an insane wingspan. Scouting reports indicate that Ron Jr. has pretty decent defense which is an important aspect we are looking for for a Gilas naturalized player.
Who knows that in the near future, his younger brother Dylan Harper might also be interested to play for Gilas. Even if Dylan is going to be a lottery pick in the NBA, the talent pool in the NBA for the 2-guard position (Dylan's natural position) is just too deep that it's really very uncertain whether Dylan would ever make it to an NBA-select USA senior national team - something which would be favorable to Philippine basketball. Remember that even Jalen Green has yet to make it to an NBA-select USA national team. That's becoz as I've said, malalim talaga yung pool of talent sa 2-guard position sa NBA.
Gilas would really need more than 9 days of preparation to make itself battle-ready for the 2025 Asia Cup.
I think coach Tim Cone must be creative in giving Gilas more than just a 9-day training.
What if Gilas does an "every-Monday" practice starting early June as our B-league & KBL Gilas players would already be available for Gilas training by then? By early June eh most likely tapos na yung season ng B-league & KBL, or even if di pa tapos, I think the respective teams of Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu & KQ in the B-league & KBL won't go that far. Dwight & Edu's teams in Japan aren't that strong so it's very likely by May or early June, out of contention na mga teams nila. Even KQ's team in the KBL is struggling so that team is expected to exit early. Only Carl Tamayo's KBL team is strong & is expected to make it to the semis & perhaps the finals.
So if coach Tim sets the "every Monday" Gilas practice in early June, that would be an additional 7 to 8 practices. I think malaking bagay na yun to add to the 9-day preparation period prior to the 2025 Asia Cup. Despite not having a Kai Sotto, I'm confident Gilas can still finish decently in the tournament. But the team needs more time to train/prepare. There's absolutely no substitute for a good preparation.

Utopian scenario would be drawn with Saudi, Syria, and Iraq... Gilas would top this group, avoid everyone else from pot A in the quarters, and it's a dogfight in the semis with China and Iran being darkhorses, only to lose to Australia in the final.
Death scenario would be drawn with Australia, Jordan, and Qatar. I'm seriously convinced we could end up last place in that group.
Katuwaan scenario for me: Japan, Korea, Guam. We got B.League, and K. League players, while a full-strength Guam is basically a more-athletic version of Thailand. I honestly don't know who gets knocked out with Guam from this group.
Shouldn't we be thankful to the Saudis that they choose pot 1 becoz we have a chance to be grouped with them thus we avoid strong teams like Australia, Japan & New Zealand. Imagine if we end up being grouped with Saudi Arabia, Korea & Guam, eh di mejo mas madali ang games natin sa elimination round.
Well, they are too smart for that.. I'm sure they already set their preferred group mates... Well, we did that in last Fiba world cup, when we were host and got a favorable draw, unfortunately we didn't materialized.. I think Saudi will likely prefer us as group mates, not because we are the weakest of the teams in POT 2, but because of marketing that we can give to the tournament.. remember, when they called a press conference after getting the rights of hosting the event, they used a video of the behind the scenes of the game between Gilas vs KSA in Jeddah in one of the world cup qualifier games years ago.. that means they are looking to be grouped with Gilas to market the event.. There are many Filipinos there in Jeddah will surely watching and they saw when Gilas vs KSA match was a sold out game, they want us for sure... Basketball in Saudi is rising in popularity (especially some games in their pro league when Al Ittihad and Al hilal matches, the Saudi version of El Classico in basketball always filled with many viewers), and this event will be the turning point of rising popularity of basketball there... And for sure, no all Arabs group mates in one group.. I always see a mixed of East and west Asia every group.. even in the past events, there are always 2 east and 2 west teams in 1 group.. although some groups will have atleast 1 east and 3 west team or 3 east teams and 1 west teams, But fiba Asia will not put all East teams in 1 group or all West teams in 1 group for geographical preference and balance of the group matches...
