FIBA-Asia Cup 2025 Saudi Arabia

With Kai Sotto's injury, the debacle of Gilas in the recent 3rd window & this 9-day preparation Gilas wud be getting for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, I couldn't help but to be pessimistic about our chances in this tournament.

Gilas looked very good & promising after last year's historic win over Latvia & New Zealand. Everyone was optimistic as future looked bright for Gilas.

Right now, I can't help but be very frustrated & pessimistic.

U bet other teams will be stronger & well prepared. Most teams will have at least 1 month of preparation samantalang yung Gilas 9 days lang. It doesn't take a basketball genius to understand that a 9-day preparation period won't be enough.

And I think that 9-day period should be used for rest, or at least most of it, in preparation for the tournament proper.

In short, it's almost as if Gilas will have no preparation at all for the Asia Cup.

Good luck to our team.

We started very well leading to the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup with a 4-0 win-loss record in the 1st & 2nd window. Then we beat world No. 6 Latvia in last year's OQT.

Then everything started sour when Kai Sotto got injured. We had a terrible campaign in the 3rd window - something most of us here wud rather forget.

We always start well...

...then we fuckup the endgame

Is it no brainer? The PBA has once again become the main culprit.

When have they ever been good for Gilas?

Every time they win and they are not Everytime they lost based on reactions here

Well if any of you can step up ang pay for the league expenses especially now that foreign teams are getting our local players. It's getting expensive to own a PBA team

We had a similar case in the 2019 WC, I think. And we didn't send a good team then. In the 2017 Asia Cup, I remember reading about training time becoming an issue.

If we don't make the quarterfinals this Asia Cup, can we attribute it to the lack of training time, stubborn coaching, or lack of quality?

the first 2 are definitely applicable. The 'lack of quality' is only attributable to pba players who still pumpfakes and drives wide open 3 pointers or passes to the import even if their man is very late contesting their shots. Scratch that actually it's all 3

Definitely not lack of quality. Like what I said in my previous post, maybe coach Tim refuses to add any player to the current roster of Gilas is becoz he's aware that he will only get a shitty 9-day preparation period for the 2025 Asia Cup, hence I feel his "stubbornness" is somewhat justified.

I say if we suck in the 2025 Asia Cup, we could attribute that to the lack of preparation time.

And U know kung sino dapat sisihin.

Actually my enthusiasm about PBA games have been rekindled since mid last year. But after hearing that the shitty league will give Gilas only 9 days to prepare for the Asia Cup, nawala na naman gana ko manood ng PBA games.

You know the saying the best time to start is yesterday, second best time is today? I feel like that this also applies to Gilas. Start training them to the "system" ASAP if it's really that difficult to learn? What's the advantage in delaying it?

it's ridiculous that some fans already have pre-emptive excuses penned up before a single tipoff in the tournament

It was obvious that the gilas window was sacrificed for the pba playoffs and this will always be the case moving forward. But the pba will be too prideful to give way to more foreign based Filipino players especially the ones in the kbl so we'll be seeing more Iskati 0 points vs Taiwan games. We're back in the chot era, dark times after a very short sugar rush in the oqt and the nzl win

Most teams only had one week of practice. Similar to Korea, Taiwan , NZ, etc.. Japan even used their team B and loss big vs China

Can't bother to check sources but if Taiwan and New Zealand only had 1 week practice and were able to decisively beat gilas, that's just embarrassing. Regarding your comment I don't really know what point you're trying to communicate, you're saying gilas sucked that bad right?

I'm just stating that a 9-day preparation for a major Asian tournament is ridiculous to think that the other teams will have at least a month of preparation. So if ever Gilas struggles in the 2025 Asia Cup (wag naman sanang mangyari), I will attribute it to the lack of preparation.

Kaya nga in every major tournament, I always would like Gilas to have suffucient time of preparation so that its chances of doing well in the tournament would improve & in case it will suck, the Gilas coach will not have any excuse for the poor showing.

How many times have we heard our national team coaches throwing excuse like "Kulang kasi tayo sa preparation eh"?

I'm tired & sick of that.

Yes. For every window qualifier, teams usually have only around 8 to 10 days to prepare. Remember that window qualifiers for the World Cup & Asia Cup are scheduled on dates that the professional leagues all over Asia & the world are ongoing hence those leagues (which includes the PBA) have to take about 2 weeks of break to give way to their respective national teams' training & participation.

But preparing for the tournament "proper" like the FIBA Asia Cup should take much more than just 9 days.

Ano yan, preparation for an all-star week festivities? That is a huge bull_hit!

To be fair 9 days is probably enough if they're going to keep playing the same way. Most of the guys are probably gonna be sitting on the bench anyway and the people who's going to log the most minutes are from Ginebra and Dwight

i agree. due to the fact that we arent integrating too many players in the system, by now most of the players already knows what CTC wants them to do. i assume that the 9 days is mostly to studay and plan out the defense needed per game.

what is unfortunate, is that other countries' players would have a common offseason. most of them. yeah its mostly used to rest the players but they can sneak in a week of practice or join a random tournament to do its integration or whatever changes they want to do. may not be ideal but thats extra time together to work things out. the recent Dubai tournament is similar. if we annually have something like that, then its a big add on on top of the 9day prep time.
