FIBA-Asia Cup 2025 Saudi Arabia

If your projected core does materialize, that's pretty much a mix of youth and age. Average age of 28.33, right around an average age of a NT. That looks to be the rotation. Need a 3rd center, and two of either a backup ballhandler, a long wing defender, or a shooter.

Balti, Lopez, Navarro, Bolick, and Heading are worth considering in the next windows. I feel the 12-man roster is initially for the 1st window only and will be modified later depending on how the team performs.

I don’t expect a new NP until after the Asia Cup 2025. That tournament has Justin Brownlee written all over it.

They need to prioritize a 6'10+ versatile big like Boatwright or 2014 Blatche.

Same thought bro. I think coach Tim just named 12 players so as to best achieve cohesion/chemistry on a limited period of time of preparation for the 1st window of 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. I've always believed that the more players you name in a pool, the harder to achieve cohesion/chemistry. I say its easier to achieve cohesion in a 12-man roster than in a 20-man roster.

The bigger pool of players is ideal when the team has sufficient time of preparation or if we are talking about a 4-year cycle program like what coach Tim & SBP planned for Gilas.

CTC wants a team. Twelve main guys who ideally stay together and build cohesion. More likely though is changes occur over time but gradual change instead of a pool system wherein quick changes can occur.

I got feel that CTC will not tap reserve players that hasn’t know his system yet… I feel CTC will tap players who already knows his system.. so don’t expect Heading, Abando or Baltazar will be pick unless changes happens… maybe he will tap his boys from Ginebra or Arvin Tolentino.. so that he will not having a hard time to teach players from the scratch… maybe Mav Ahamnisi has a chance under CTC

I’m not a ginebra fan but I hope that will navarro will be traded to Ginebra and then Navarro will be integrated to the system of CTC, so that if he will tap to be part of Gilas in his 4 year tenure as Gilas coach, he will not having a hard time to adjust… What do you think?

I think by the time other reserve players will be necessary, this core will have learned the system. So it won't be that hard to teach. You have the other guys teaching it for you.

At saka, Cone did say "get the best." The fact that only 7 were retained from the Asiad team, and that we added 5 non-PBA players (although Cone had worked with them in the past) kinda shows that Cone and Atty. Dy are willing to consider non-PBA guys as among the best. Also, Cone has worked with Heading and Abando in the past as well, so I think they're familiar with his defense.

Although, you might have a point with Mav, as he can shoot and create his own shot. Thing is, he's already 32, and he'll be 34 by the time this Asia Cup rolls around, and 36 by the time of the WC (if we do qualify), so that might hurt our continuity a bit.

Let’s see… still hoping for Heading and Abando inclusion… but I don’t expect it will happen sooner than later… the priority are those 12 guys first…especially CTC will not resign as Ginebra coach, that means his focus will be divided… that’s why I see he will not pick players for now as reserves…

Watching Jordan Heading's games with Strong Group, especially the championship game vs. Al Riyadi-Lebanon makes me more convinced that he really deserves to be in the 12-man roster. With AJ Edu out for the February window becoz of an MCL injury, I hope coach Tim Cone decides to make Heading as Edu's replacement, though they're not playing the same position.

People hated on Tab and Chot for not being our NTs full time coach. And a lot of people already hated the 12 man lineup. If Kai isn't showcase against the weak teams it's only a matter of time till the people turn on him too. Sucks but that's how things go

Quinito says that the PBA season next year will have three conferences, with the All-Filipino in August : https://x.com/TheDeanQuinito/status/1775848680844869778?s=20

Hay, nako. A PBA three-conference season typically lasts 10-12 months. Do these guys realize that we have a FIBA tournament in August 5 next year, and we run the risk of not giving our guys sufficient prep time?

Correct bro.
And it is actually this f_cking 3-conference season format which lasts 10 or even more months that hinders PBA players from playing for Gilas in FIBA tournaments. Remember what happened in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup when Gilas didn't have the PBA superstars like Junmar, Oftana, Perez, Malonzo, Thompson, etc. becoz of this fucking 3-conference format by the PBA?

I have faith in the chemistry of our guys come the Asia Cup next year, but it won't matter as much if right after the PBA, they'll practice after a only few days of rest. It's going to be the 2019 World Cup Part 2. The Commissioner's Cup ended one week before the World Cup, which combined with sending one of the worst Gilas lineups we've had in recent memory, resulted in disaster.

The 2-month break is for rest and training. We will need both if we want a chance to go deep into the tournament.

Problem is, PBA off season isn't scheduled during the July to August period which is the period when FIBA tournaments are set. As what I've been implying, our stubborn PBA people refuse to synchronize its calendar with FIBA calendar.

i don't know if there will be a sawa factor but if pba wants exposure, they can make it like one full season with 2 imports, quadruple round robin in elimination round a total of 44 games and which 11 games more than the elimation games in current format, then 3 best of seven series in playoffs for a maximum 65 games in a season if all series go to 7 games, then make the calendar in sync with fiba, plus the continental competion will also give another exposure for whatever team will represent us, and i think having 2 imports will somehow make the low tier teams more competitive, while the long elimination round can help the continental representative to establish a better chemistry with the 2 imports, i am hoping that the continental competition will be as successful as euroleague as i think it will be the catalyst for the PBA people to adjust its format

I just hope that for this tournament, Gilas will be given at least 20 days of "full time" training/preparation & will have about 4 tune-up games prior to improve its chances of a good showing in this continental tournament so as to redeem itself from a dismal stint in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. I just hope that our beloved PBA would really cooperate & make this thing happen. I see no problem about the availability of our B-league Gilas players as far as training with Gilas for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup is concerned, but we can't say the same about our PBA Gilas players. U know what I'm implying, no need to elaborate.

People here would say, the cohesion/chemistry that Gilas will develop in the window qualifiers of this tournament (usually the team gets about 10-12 days in every window qualifier) would be enough for the team. I say iba pa rin yung makapag training/prepare ang team ng mga 3 to 4 weeks in a full time mode prior to the competition.

For instance if you play Jordan, Iran, Lebanon or Japan during the window qualifiers, hindi pa ganoon kalakas ang mga teams na yan but if you play them in the tournament proper where they get to train & prepare for about 4 to 5 weeks prior, they would be significantly stronger teams. Especially if these teams get to have some tune-up games prior to the tournament proper. Jordan can be beaten by teams like Saudi Arabia in a window qualifier pero pag dating na sa tournament proper Jordan will have a significant edge over the Saudis. Qatar or Kazakhstan can upset Iran in the window qualifiers but in the tournament proper, Iran will easily beat those teams by 15 to 20 pts.

What date will start and end of PBA calendar for 2024 - 2025 season?

What date will start and end of PBA calendar for 2024 - 2025 season?

Start date will be August. So, the season will need to end in mid-to-late June 2025 at the latest so that our PBA guys will be able to rest and prepare.

The important PBA guys are Newsome, JB, and to an extent Scottie. June Mar should be expected to back up Kai and AJ, so ideally, spot minutes lang siya.

If this "dying" league starts its 2024-2025 season in August 2024 & ends in late June 2025, then it only has barely 2 months of off-season. Wow! Where in our green earth do we find another basketball pro league that runs almost 11 months per season?

How I like it that "nilalangaw" na ang PBA games sa ngayon that even if Ginebra is playing, kunti pa rin ang nanonood. If only that would force these stubborn PBA people to make the league into a 2-conference per season format & that it will have a 3-month off season.

As for JB, he will have his rest since the last conference will be AFC, unless he will play for other leagues that time… if we conclude PBA’s time table per conference, it was always max of 4 months per conference (including playoffs and finals).. that means PBA Govs cup will run from August to November, then Commissioners cup from December to March then AFC from April to July.. that could be the timeline.. unless they will speed up the schedule to 3 months per conference… although no real dates they announce of their official schedule.. Just basing on previous conference schedules… Always 4 months per conference

If PBA is creative, I’m ok with 3 conference but one conference should be invitational cup, whereas they will invite teams overseas… Invite and put agreement teams in ASEAN or Guam to play here against PBA teams or the likes of Bay Area.. they can invite Singapore Slingers too… 2 month invitational cup is feasible…

Like I've said in the seniors thread, I wouldn't complain if we didn't have key players coming from the PBA. Kaso, Newsome and JB are key members of the squad (the other keys are Kai, Dwight, and AJ). We need JB for all-around play, especially scoring, and Newsome is our best point-of-attack defender. So we need them fit and rested.

Here's a hitch: the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup would be held on Aug. 5 to 17, 2025.
PBA should postpone its opening of the 2025-2026 PBA season to late August so that PBA Gilas players can play in that tournament. PBA has a history of not putting enough importance to FIBA Asia Cup judging from its refusal to take a brief break to give way to Gilas campaign in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

I just hope that PBA will be committed to to lend its players to Gilas for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. And of course I hope Gilas gets at least 20 days of full time training/practices prior to the tournament.

I think the season should be compressed so that it ends in mid-June. Give our players time to rest and then a month to train. Cone chose the pool, so they will be available, since he's pretty respected by the PBA.

Question will be the rest and training time.
