Happy to see Mongolia, Guam and Thailand in the FIBA-Asia Cup qualifiers. Let's see what they can do in a level one or two steps higher than this pre-qualifiers.

82-81 Guam. Dagger 3 by Earnest Ross with 3 seconds left.

Despite the results, I am still very proud and happy for Mongolia. They got into the Asia Cup Qualifiers on their first try, they have a good enough team that could hang with another emerging Asia-Pacific team in Guam, and they have a passionate fanbase. They will get even scarier to play against once their US NCAA prospect Mike Sharavjamts comes to play for them. My only wish for them is that they get Sanchir to his first Asia Cup appearance.

Actually, I was impressed with the fundamentals of the Mongolian players. They played more mature than Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and even Thailand, to think that this is their first time in this level.

Guam, on the other hand, has the talent. That's a given. But if they need to barge in the FIBA-Asia Cup proper, they need to change their coach. They are like the Philippine team circa 2007.

Some of Mongolian fans tell me that they have another one prospect who is also playing in America, aside from Mike shraravjamts.. it seems these Mongolian team still has to offer when bigger stage come… and what I like from them is that they love basketball too.. Mongolian national sport is wrestling but in terms of popularity, it’s basketball and representation in international competition.. maybe because of their 3x3 success.. basketball is more popular in Mongolia than football/soccer… while Guam and Thailand already released their main cards these qualifiers… one thing for sure, these three teams are better than India, who still playing in World Cup qualifiers due to luck… but still winless…

I have a feeling Qatar will be awarded the 2025 Asia Cup as a dress rehearsal for the 2027 WC.

I still hope Jordan gets it. They never hosted the Asia Cup and have more of a basketball culture + history.

I'm still convinced they'll completely ignore FIBA Asia Cup qualifying that's happening a month after the Asian Games. When I mean ignore, I'm thinking they'll send Josh Reyes and a bunch of college players because the PBA will be deep into the Commissioner's Cup while there will be a FIBA International window from November 20 - 28. Last time, we had guys like Thirdy and Kiefer play games for Gilas and spent the remaining days in the country on a short vacation. Whether or not that team will be competitive enough for Asia remains to be seen, but definitely the entire SBP will be jaded after going through both the World Cup and Asian Games.

What is this window for? For teams who didn't make the Olympic slot?

Asia Cup window.

Asia Cup window.

I just hope that our beloved SBP people are already looking forward to the 1st window of the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers. Dapat sa ngayon pa lang pinag iisipan & pinagpaplanohan na nila yung composition ng Gilas team for that window. I bet our Japan B-league boys will be available for Gilas in this window (as usual). But how about our PBA boys? Will the PBA take a break (2 weeks) to give way to Gilas' training & participation in the 1st window? SBP should coordinate with the PBA for this maybe right after the 2023 World Cup. I understand masyado pang busy ang mga SBP people for now becoz of the World Cup, but right after the World Cup, SBP should already be setting its sights on the 2025 Asia Cup qualifiers.

Yung common kasing reklamo ng PBA against SBP is that SBP not informing the PBA in advanced that it is requesting players from the pro league for a particular window or tournament itself.

That will only happen with a change of management. PBA-minded pa rin ata ang mga mokong na 'to, e.

its like BAP, MICAA and the PBA all over again,

I guess, Qatar will also host 2025 fiba asia cup, for their run up to their preparations for 2027 fiba World Cup, w/c will also held in Qatar… and maybe fiba will give ultimatum to Qatar, since their current fiba rankings is low (rank 89) just like they did to Indonesia… they are not deserving to be part of 2027 fiba World Cup if we based their current status of their basketball team as of now… Indonesia is much higher ranking (rank 85) than Qatar and they (Indonesia basketball) didn’t qualified to this year’s tournament even they are also host…

Sbp is headed by panlilio who is part of the mvp group in the pba. So dont believe that pba is not informed. What is hard is to get all the owners to agree on what to do. More or less, the owners decides as 1.

We need a pool now for the qualifying windows. SBP should be thinking of that while the World Cup is going on.

too bad SBP not exactly known for long term planning/ futures thinking. We’ll be cramming again in 2025 for sure

India has a 20-year old 7'1 255lbs Amaan Sandhu who i think was based on the US

I just heard of futures thinking over the past sem (it's midyear now in UP). Hahahahahaha.

Anyways, if Chua takes over, long-term planning ain't exactly a priority too, same with Panlilio and Vargas. Maybe just exposure to PBA favorites, even if aging and/or incapable.

Bahrain will be team to be watch out for in 2025… they might upset some high ranked fiba asia teams there… muzamil hamooda is damn good… while I think Bahrain might have new naturalized player in 2025, since Wayne chism is too old already…

November is the start of FIBA asia cup 2025 qualifier, ano kaya niluluto ng SBP dapat this ASIAN games palang talaga may vision na sila, start na pool participating players upto OQT then beyond.

Yeah, we need to prepare for the window, starting now. We need to start the rebuild after Asian Games, or at least plan the rebuild after the Asiad. The Japan boys, and maybe the Korea boys, are available, so they might make a good core. Maybe Malonzo, Perez, Scottie, Brownlee, and Navarro can be good additions. Need a big, though.

Lay the foundation in November, then full swing by February (B.League and KBL break, UAAP and NCAA are over).
