Gerson, the coach who was eliminated by zalgiris loosing the chance to play home f4 with the roster he had!! because we have two way to consider gerson career: the fact zalgiris scored one ft or dont. not mentioning sharp miracle. what a mediocre coach!
Yes, absolutely. We can discuss Ataman but there's no comparison, he is a far better coach, much more versatile.

I hope that rumours about Francisco (Peristeri) and Maccabi aren't true, an undersized pg that has nothing to do with the El level.

The offer from PANATHINAIKOS to punter is 2,5M/year. We already have vildoza, i prefer him regarded as sg and not our main PG. we need a pass first pg, thats why we have made the offer to campazzo.
on the other hand from what we hear the last couple of days, the alternative is mike james, definetely not a pass first pg, maybe the exact opposite. of course there are not many pure point guards if not getting campazzo, thompson is one of them but he is headed to italy and i would not risk with him, he hasnt proved anything on the higher level yet. So my alternative would be getting also calathes if we get james.

James, calathes, vildoza, punter would be a good backcourt. plus moraitis for greek league, plus one more between guards and forwards. thomas if ataman wants a run and gun team or elijah bryant if he wants someone to bring more balance to the team between offense and defence with a guy that would accept being the man to do the dirty job.

then we have the forwards, i think hezonja will come back, his agent made a '' strange '' post yesterday on social media, with the croatian in green. 2 days after winning euroleague and making these kind of posts means that there's fire. the team wants him. i think he fits better as a PF. and can make room for both mantzoukas (as a PF) and papapetrou (as a SF).

So my roster would be built like this, considering the fact we must have at least 6 greeks in greek league, so having many foreigners above the number 6 would not be good for the chemistry of a team, that will by 80% be new. So 7 of them is fine i think

James,calathes,moraitis
Vildoza,punter, thomas
Bryant, papapetrou
Hezonja,mantzoukas
Papagiannis,lessort,antetokunbo

thanks a lot for the scouting report, really helpful !

I think he's considered a replacement for Tariq Black. in which case, that might be an improvement.

There was talk of getting him to Efes mid-season, but Ataman gambled on Singleton instead. We might have made the POs with Jones, as what he brings we badly lacked: athletism.

To be frank, I did not watch him a lot, but the scouts were split on him. Some really liked him, some thought he was not good enough for Turkish EL teams. Considering what Oly made out of Fall, McKissic etc, you might be optimistic, though, if the deal happens.

Clown lives in alternate reality, in which Gershon didn't reach F4 in 2004.... Pathetic. Yes, he owes his Maccabi career to Sharp and Shelef, but after Zalgiris miracle Maccabi gave excellent F4, and next year thoroughly dominated EL.

And I disagree that Ataman is better. Ataman is good coach, but by any objective parameter he is much worse than Gershon. Ataman has negative balance in EL, FFS.
Pini, unfortunately, because of his character, didn't last long, and didn't came to Maccabi (also because of his character) when he was younger. He was brilliant game manager, not as good in scouting, but he had Blatt with him. Surely, there are few coaches who are better than Gershon (Zelico, Pasqual, Laso, Itoudis, Messina), but Ataman does not belong to that list. And while this season partially was bad because of injuries, but it wasn't anything to write home about from coach's perspective as well.

Rolands Smits extends with Zalgiris till 2025-2026. Win for the greens. Smits would have been great fit for Monaco next year, but no buyout option for next season.

Vildoza is a decent player but not worth more than 800k.

He is attractive and very strong weapon in offence when he is on fire but also he is kind of lazy player and often struggling with motivation (especially if he is in troubles with women :D).

I will not cry for him if he leaves. Faku is a different story but unfortunately he wants to play in Madrid.

About Zvezda, there are strong rumors about Kalinić and Polonara.

Bolomboy was seen buying boxes for moving. So, he is either moving to a different house or team..

There is now talk of Barca reducing their budget by around 20-25%

https://www.eurohoops.net/en/eurole...ortedly-to-cut-budget-for-basketball-section/

The bulk of this saving should be produced through a reduction in the wage bill, which this season has been around 38 million euros. It will not be easy for the basketball section to carry out this important cut because this June 30 only four of the 16 first-team contracts expire, those of the player’s Kyle Kuric, Sertac Sanli, and Mike Tobey and the coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.

It is, reportedly, not only lack of success (however, before Saras, Barcelona didn't reach F4 much...), it's troubles of big football brothers catching up with basketball team. After all, most of the money comes from there.

This is a good point. And also helped them win their first ACB title since 2014.

We have to see everything in relation. You cant spent over 40 millions every season and deliver just 3 F4 entrances. Its like giving you an apple for 100 Euros and you think its worth because you had never seen an apple before. Saras has build vulnerable rosters again and again. Additionally, he didnt cut a fine figure in the do or die games. I cant count him successful so I cant count ZOC successful with FB even if I must say ZOC made a far better job in Turkey.

How would you rebuild Barca's roster to meet their budget cuts and which coach would you hire?

Yes, return on investment question is also important, but I didn't call Saras a success, just not complete failure.

Same as I don't call Kattash a success this year - we could do so much more with this roster, if not two-four games in regular season he lost with bad game management. Not a failure as well, we did show some great basketball, and same time had healthy and (mostly) happy locker room. We don't know yet (might not know until end of his career) why Brown threw away much higher proposals from Spain and agreed for long contract extension, but there must be something special in the team.

Well, even with 40+ millions they came too short in certain positions. The team that I remember two years ago was heavily dependent on Higgins. They signed Calathes who turns out to be a big liability on the offensive end. Mirotic was also a disappointment in do or die games which is of course devastating if your go to guy fails in crucial games. You cant spend 40+ and have as your bench point guard Bolmaro or Jokubaitis. You need to buy a veteran who can change the momentum of the game.

Last season Saras showed that he hasnt learn anything and bought Sato with the same weaknesses as Calathes (of course a better version), a washed up Vesely who is obviously not very happy with Saras and Sanli who was bought because of his great games against Tavares. It was a mistake because this shape he will never reach again.

If you cant do it with 44 millions you wont do it with 30 either. Barca has been paying too much for its players. The market is very thin. I dont know what to do. I would aim a mix of young home grown guys and a team with good guards and one solid big. You need to buy some no names and hope for some lucky shots.

Zeljiko was in Fener from 2013 to 2020.
In his second season to the team (2015), Fener reached F4 for the first time in their history (4th). In 2016 Fener lost in the EL final (2nd), while in 2017 Fener won the title (1st). In 2018 they were again 2nd and in 2019 4th. (In 2020 EL was cancelled due to covid). Fener hasn't reached F4 ever since, even though remains a team with a high budget (24 millions- steadily around 6th of the list of season budgets of EuroLeague teams).

I know these approaches to count a final four entrances as a success because in one game everything can happen but you play basketball four cups. In order to count a team successful I need a ratio of winning cups of 50% after reaching the final four.

Fener had never reached F4 before Obradovic and when Obradovic came, Fener reached F4 5 times in a row and even won a title. You make it sound like reaching F4 is taken for granted. It is not and as a proof for it, Fener hasn't reached F4 after Obradovic.
You believe that Obradovic was not successful with Fener because he didn't win half of 5 titles, meaning 2 or 3 titles instead of 1?? In other words, if Fener had reached twice F4 with Obradovic and had won 1 title, this would have made Obradovic more successful because he would have 50% ratio of winning cups??
Let's take CSKA. From 2000 to 2021, they reached F4 18 times and they just won it 4 times. I believe that CSKA was quite successful, despite the 4/18 ratio.
