European Competitions 2023/24 - Signings & Rumours

  • Thread starter Thread starter Toruko2
  • Start date Start date
I see that this year there are no clear favorites.
Real, Barca, Fener, Efes, Oly, Pao, Monaco, CZ, Partizan, Maccabi, Milano, Valencia have very competitive rosters and are quite close to each other.

For me, teams that performed well and kept most of their staff intact are favorites. If I had to hazard a guess, F4 favorites would be Real, Oly, Partizan, Fener.

Mirotic just annonunced he isn't joining Partizan because of threats he recieved. For me this is just nonsense but whatever. I don't see him at Pao either then. Monaco closed the roster, Oly brought Sikma so Milano only left...???

Mirotic is not coming to Partizan. He wrote on Instagram. It was clear that he had a deal with Partizan but those rumors about threats were true. He confirmed it and doesn't want to play in that kind of atmosphere, which is understandable.

FB with this backcourt? XD even PAOs F4 entrance would be more probable.

Real is the only team we can count on and I understand the hype around Partizan but its way too early for Oly.

Although I don’t like Calathes I agree that unless Fener has money to burn, it would be ok to keep him as a back up PG

Lol at Bob though. Just mentioning the name summoned him. He will not rest until Calathes bamboozles the last team and rides off to the sunset.

Calathes is becoming pretty successful western robber. Comes, collects money and rides away. I wonder who is the next victim? Maybe Pao? :D :D :D

Its the last station for him and I dont agree with the wording "robber". He never forced a team to give him millions. Its his right to demand the money of his contract. They all gave him millions voluntarily.

So I guess this means that he won't come to Greece either. He showed a weakness and now greek fans can easily exploit it :p

Nah, I disagree. Fener has a very strong front court and upgraded from Calathes. In addition you have the same coach that was one shot away from the F4. Obviously it's too early, I have no idea what will happen but if I were to give *an* opinion, I stand by what I said. Chemistry is very underrated imo.

Yes, teams overpay players, but do you remember the situation, where player got buyout 2x in a row? ;)

Soft ass Sanli, sleeping pill Papagiannis and short Mobley is at most an average center rotation. The 2-3-4 positions look ok but 1 and 5 are disappointments tbh. Is Raul Neto really an upgrade to Calathes? I really doubt that and this Israeli guy as a backup for F4 ambitions could just be a bad joke.

There is not a single star level player.

You're being unnecessarily harsh with your players. I mean, obviously I don't have a crystal ball but I think Fener has a very decent team and a very good coach. I think they will comfortably get to the playoffs and from there we'll have to see what the situation is and if they'll manage to get over that hump.

Calathes was solid most of the season and it makes no sense to pay him his full contract to leave rather than to keep him as a backup.
This is all on Itoudis. He knew exactly the player he was signing a year ago. And like Toruko wrote, it's not like their new PGs are massive upgrades.

It must make Fener fans yearn for the days of Preldzic and Savas.

Sloukas being safe and sound so far, is the best proof that he has nothing to worry about in Greece ;)

But seriously where can Mirotic go? Milano signed Poythress, Kamagate, re-signed Hines, Voigtmann and Melli are staying. There is no place for him there. Olympiacos signed Sikma and said they are done with Mirotic. Monaco re-signed Motiejunas, signed Jaiteh, Hall and J.Brown re-signed and they brought Cornelie. Same like Milano, I don't see him there. Panathinaikos has space and needs starting PF...He said he doesn't want to be in the toxic enviroment with the fans so Greece maybe not his most desirable destination but honestly I don't believe in his reasons about some threats for not joining Partizan so anything can happen. And I don't see absolutely any other team that want and will sign him. Maybe Bayern will for once splash some cash? I've no idea...

I don't know man, this has taken a bit too long imo. Also, if the announcement by Partizan is true then I dislike him as a character and I wouldn't prefer him over Toko for Pao.

Yup, same. Shengelia every day before Mirotic. Their annoncement in other words say he didn't come to Partizan because of better offer somewhere else.

Too bad that Itoudis didn't ask for my advice. I'm a lot cheaper than Calathes and probably better player too. :D

Itoudis must have been well aware of Calathes' limitations before he signed him for Fener. It's difficult to imagine how he expected this signing to work out much differently.

"Why did no one tell me this guy isn't a good shooter?"

Its always the same with Calathes. He starts very well and has a downfall after 3-4 month. The problem was never Calathes himself but his role and what he earned in all that time.

The year is 2050, on our recently arrived quantum computers interbasket.net still gets database crashes and we still talk about Calathes.
