Agree. Neto as the main PG  Pangos is always injured. Sestina is also weird transfer for me same as Willis to Efes. Both Eurocup players and that's maybe too strong competition for them. Madar instead Calathes..hmmm. we shall see. Rest looks good

Yeah the main PG is an issue, I don't trust Neto or Pangos. Sestina I liked in the limited time I saw him this year in Turkish league, I think he can become a role player for us.

There are rumors for Cory Hoggins as well. Let's see if Dorsey manages to leave Fener for either Olympiakos or Panathinaikos.

Dorsey had issues with Itoudis (and vice versa lol) but I think they found an understanding. I doubt Higgins will join, honestly.

zvezda step out from ponitka, he would replace papa in partizan.
also jaramaz should soon be announced for partizan.. maybe thats the reason why madar was gone, since last 10 days they were negotiated with jaramaz...

i was hoping after stepping out from ponitka, that kalinic is in the game(although he several times repeat that he wont return to zvezda this year), but then hanga..
i dont know, between him and ponitka, if hanga was 2 years younger it would be no brainer..
if nothing else, hanga is choice of dusko.

Both teams are just betting on these relatively cheap shooters at number 4, hoping to find an Alec Peters in them. it's a gamble.

During Ataman's career at Efes, he never had a strong core of Turkish players who could compete at the Euroleague level. I have never thought that this was a matter of trust or distrust in domestic players, and I believe people often criticize Ataman unnecessarily in this regard. Among the main Turkish players he coached during his time at Efes, such as Gecim, Sanli, Tuncer, Young Bitim and Young Saybir, Guven, and Gazi, Sanli was the only player who could contribute effectively in the Euroleague and Ataman already knew how to get the maximum performance from him. In the last 3-4 seasons, there hasn't been a Turkish player market capable of playing at the Euroleague level. Now we have a couple of players like Kabaca or Bitim who can contribute at this level, but Ataman never had the chance to play with players of this profile.

The Greek Euroleague player pool is much wider, and the players in his roster are capable of making direct contributions. Players like Sloukas, Mitoglou, Papagiannis or Papapetrou are proven players and it is fact that they are not included in the team solely because they are Greek. The belief that Ataman has an aversion to domestic players is completely false. Ataman can not tolerate weakness or lack of enthusiasm in players. Some players, especially Turkish ones, want their egos to be stroked and expect the coach to be more instructive or paternal, but Ataman is definitely not that type of person. It can be debated whether this is the right approach, but this approach has never changed in him, and he has achieved many things with this character.
Sanli was about the same level as Gecim, and Bitim was a highly promising prospect when Ataman found them. You don't get a stronger core of players anymore, those are going to the NBA. You either make use of what you have or waste them. I blame Ataman for this. He played his stars nearly 40mpg even in meaningless TBL games, while the players like Arna, Saybir etc, who clearly needed playing time to gain confidence and to show what they could do, were waving towels. What motivation do they have to train hard if there is a continuously-perpetuated message that they won't get a chance no matter what? Throwing them into the court for 2 mins in a critical game does not qualify as "giving a chance" imho.

I do not put the entire blame on Ataman only because the mentality of those players is also questionable. The root cause is the foreign player quota, as we talked about for many years. No need to expand further on it.

I mentioned Ataman might change his attitude at PAO, because of the non-proportional impact of local players over a passionate fanbase. He used Goksenin Koksal for example as a firestarter and might look for similar players in PAO. or more, obviously if he finds them motivated enough to contribute at any random 20-second interval.

Despite all this, yeah, I wish he stayed with Efes.

When you look, last PAO's good team was in the 16-17 (17-18 had few additions)Whole team was basically new except Gist and Calathes. You had James, Singleton, Rivers, Nichols, Bourousis, Gentile arrived and also Pascual came in the 2rd round of the Euroleague. So no preseason with him as a coach and that team looked really well. And if these transfers which we are waiting for turns out as they should be big names then this squad is much better. Also I think Euroleague in this moment has weaker teams than back then. No Russian teams, Turkish teams in this moment doesn't look strong as they used to, especially Efes. Also Ataman made that championship team in one summer. Completely new team. And I do think that team didn't have some special signings except Larkin. Micic was backup in the Zalgiris. Beaubois solid in Baskonia, Simon nothing but starter in that crazy Milano team. Motum was average in the Zalgiris, Moerman horrible in the Barcelona...and it turned out great. Panathinaikos is still waiting 3, 4 main transfers. In this moment we only have at PG and C starters in the team. And when you look at the names you have Sloukas who is top 5 at his position, Lessort ALL Euroleague team, Grant Eurocup MVP, Vildoza who can be the best or the worst and pretty solid Greek core, maybe the best in last 10 years. I am not saying we will be champions, not at all, but I do actually think everything except top 5, 6 at least is huge failure. Also keep in mind OAKA will be full almost every game. I would not be satisfied with just the playoffs. If we get home court adventage and lose against better team in that moment (17. Fener, 18. Real) I am fine. But to fight for the playoffs and then be destroyed against 1st or 2nd seed shouldn't be ok to anyone.

On one side, we can just agree to disagree on what we expect from our team.

On the other side, the 16-17 team didn't just have Calathes and Gist. Pappas, Feldeine, Fotsis were also part of last year's team. That's not a negligible percentage.
So the team from 15-16 went to the playoffs, made additions and then under the same coach was prepared for the new year. Btw, Pedoulakis was fired just because we lost badly to Oly early in the season.

Also you know that sometimes a new coach has short terms benefits for a team. The result wasn't anything thrilling. We went to the playoffs again (with the exact same result again). The sample is so small that it's not obvious to me that Pasqual did much better than what Pedoulakis would have done. He took a playoffs team, which had already undergone summer camp with the same coach as last year and didn't do incredibly better (sure he won the greek league which was lost last year from some incredible clutch performances by Spanoulis).

If you account for the lack of competition, yeah, one can see this as an opportunity but I tend to not underestimate anyone at this level. At least not until I see some actual play.

Lastly, people bring Ataman's example in Efes. There is a reason why this is considered special. These things don't just happen every year :p I mean, look, I hope and pray that he does the same thing, but I can't base my expectation on a miracle that happened once.

So just to clarify, my expectations aren't to end up 8th and get easy swept like in 16 and 17. I hope:
*we play good basketball (I have said this many times and it gets overlooked in favor of results)
*the fans come back to OAKA
*there is effort from the players (who seemed bored these past years)
*there is actual coaching (not like the many weird decisions we've seen lately)

and in the end we fight for a playoff spot and if we do, we have a good series. That's it.

I believe that time credit is given more easily to a team that is built from scratch with low-cost players.
When you sign a coach with back to back EL titles who chooses himself expensive and successful players to build a team the way he wants, can't get the same time credit.

If he doens't have patience and Ataman doesn't pull off another miracle we'll accomplish nothing again. Once more.

We don't need a miracle, just participation to EL play offs. It should not be that hard since in the betting odds, we are third in line to win EL title :D

Yam Madar to Fener.

I read that Madar had contract with Partizan and there was no buy out, so Partizan is not willing to let go of the player and the two sides will resolve their differences in the courts. Is it true?

If Barca is really going to pay 1M buyout for Brizuela then they decreased budget from 40M to 50M. What the hell are they doing...Parra is ok, but still not worth that much, but Brizuela...lost for words.

Hearing rumorst that Oly is negotiating with Sikma. Any idea, how realistic this is?

There are rumors for Cory Hoggins as well. Let's see if Dorsey manages to leave Fener for either Olympiakos or Panathinaikos.

After Papapetrou Pana's greek roster should be closed, how many players does the team need?

Maccabi forgets Ponitka due to Partizan's high offer.

The team needs 6 greek players, I think that we've already got them. However, it is said that Panathinaikos offered 7 millions to Dorsey for 3 years.

We have 6 greeks, but one of them is not a basketball player. He is just the brother of a famous player, its the only reason he gets contracts. Plus we also have moraitis, who hasnt proved if he can compete in euroleague or not. One of them and maybe both of them, will be out of euroleague 12man rotation in games when everyone's healthy.

Dorsey is not that great, but he is not that bad either. I would like a better scorer instead, someone from the nba. But i wont cry if we get him, after all we are gonna get another gard as well (sg/sf). We should release lithuanian tourist first though
