European Competitions 2023/24 - Signings & Rumours

  • Thread starter Thread starter Toruko2
  • Start date Start date
Welcome coach! Very please about this signing. 3 Finals in 5 years is most impressive. He failed this year but everyone fails every once in a while. Even Zoc.

Rumours have it that Vildoza and Mitrou- Long are also signed.

Toruko. Mantzoukas is a very good shooter but still raw. It's only his 1st season. He's only 20. The Kalaitzakis bros re 24 and useless. Embarrassingly useless.

Ataman agreed for 2 years. Willbe announced once he ends his games with efes.

Vildoza has also agreed for 3 years. Moraitis as 3rd pg and kostas antetokunbo (hopefully as 3rd center cause he is not skilled for anything above that) have also agreed. Mitrou long will sign as well,if he gets his greek passport.

Apart from that the main target for the backcourt is campazzo. The offer to him is 2.2m/year. If not, hopefully thompson will be still available before he signs with armani and we might make an offer for him. Then we have 3 forwards with team option to keep (bacon, thomas, ponitka) and grigonis with contract. I would keep thomas and bacon and would try to get rid of grigonis and sign rogkavopoulos as well. Lee is also on team option. My lineup for backcourt would be something like this

Campazzo,lee,moraitis
Vildoza,thomas,mitrou long
Bacon, rogkavopoulos and one of the kalaitzakis bros.

For frontcourt things are more complicated cause we need to see what happens with papagiannis. There are rumours about leday and lessort but, i think rumours about guards right now come from more reliable sources. Papapetrou will probably be a target as well, cause we need greeks for greek league. Or we can give bacon or someone else a greek passport just like the others did with walkup.

Whats sure is that the budget will be much higher than previous seasons, one of the reasons being thr fact that OAKA will be team's property for the next 50 years and that way we can use it as we wish, even the days without matches. Certainly budget wont be at 2010 levels, but we can probably offer contracts more than 1m/year to all the foreigners, while now the most expensive players are grigonis, bacon, papagiannis, all being at 900k/year

It is official now - Wade Baldwin will stay yellow/blue for two more years until 24/25!!!

Forget Campazzo. He will return to Real Madrid.

I can't see how come there are rumours about Lessort coming to Panathinaikos. He has a great season with Partizan, so the most possible scenario is for him to extend his contract.
Would you really want to get rid of Grigonis?? I believe that he is a great player and we should keep him. I fear that we will lose Papagiannis and that we will sign K.Antentokoumpo as our main center..

Then not even god himself can help you let alone Aaman.

I hope that Ataman has a vision and a plan for the team. I can't really understand how we ended up with him.. I think this was the time for him to sign a contract with a highly budgeted team, after his recent successes with Efes. The fact that he chose to come to Panathinaikos is at least surprising. Even if he was promised a high budget, there is no way we can reach Efes'. I really hope that Panathinaikos will insist on playing with some greek players so that "Athens" which is written on the jersey is not decorative..

Is Vildoza done deal? And what about Campazzo, is he going to Madrid? :)

Ataman has a long history of exceeding expectations., but I really cannot predict he'll fare with PAO. He can be too provocative at times, and the team may implode. Anyway best of luck to him. Now, I'm curious if he's going to pry away any players from Efes. A few names are available.

about campazzo. real are the favorites, but their offer is nowhere near panathinaikos one, cause there are 2,6 million on his clause when he left for the nba. players hasnt paid that money to real,so if they accept to delete that clause (which means losing 2,6 millions) he will sign. anyway, for panathinaikos the fact that goes for campazzo is good, if that proves the team goes for players with such annual salaries. if its not campazzo,it might be another one expensive pg.

as for kostas antetokunbo, he wont me main center even if papagiannis leaves. the problem will be even if he is the 2nd one. he is not skilled enough to be the backup center to any euroleague team. he proved that twice in asvel and fener. the rumours about lessort (and leday) come from the speculation of a much higher budget than last season. it remains to be seen if thats gonna happen or not. and yes i would get rid of grigonis, cause vildoza is already a player of the team, so i prefer matt thomas over grigonis as the second sg. of course ataman might have something else on his mind, beabouis and elijah bryant are free agents this summer from efes

Grigonis has a closed contract until the summer of 2024. On the other hand, Matt Thomas' contract is not closed, but there is an "option" at the end of the season which Panathinaikos will be able to activate if they wish (hopefully not) to keep him in the team.

grigonis had a contract for this season with csska as well, but he didnt play there. the fact he has a contract means nothing, he can go play somewhere else where he enjoys it more (for example zalgiris) and will be happier (isnt that the reason he was upset during the season according to sources?).

grigonis is a good player but highly overrated. he is slow, weak defensively and lacks ball handling which immediately places him as a wing side player. he is a very good (one of the best) shooter, but mostly as a spot up shooter. on the other hand thomas has pretty much same weaknesses, but he is faster and is also a great shooter. imo better than grigonis and can shoot off sreen, as a spot up and with a pullup. things grigonis cant do. thomas is much better than grigonis and with summer training,he will be better and back to his standards as one of the best off the ball shooters and scorers in europe. plus he wont be away in asia for world cup. i would not keep grigonis, even if we could not keep thomas. beabouis and elijah bryant are both much better players than grigonis, pretty much equal when it comes to shooting and much better defensively, im sure even paris lee can post grigonis in training

'Available' on the market, maybe... The real question is.. how many Efes player would be 'available' to have Ataman again as coach..

My humble opinion.. Ataman is greatly overestimated as a coach. Looking forward to see how his relationship with the ownership will develop.

Agree 100% about Ataman. Micic is overestimated too

All glory for Efes's success should belong to Larkin cos everything started with him not Ataman. Also this season showed how mediocre is Efes and Ataman without him(or with him just after injury)

I disagree about Ataman being overrated, simply because he's not generally considered among the elite coaches of Europe. He's been demonstrably weak in drawing ad-hoc plays, as proven countless times even in the title years, but you cannot argue his titles, all of which, IMHO, had his signature. Too many of them to attribute to luck.

anyway, a valid point is that he probably cannot lure anyone from the current Efes roster :)

katash proved nothing at panathinaikos before 2 years. he won 2 titles against nobody. at greek cup olympiakos was disqualified by kolossos in the first round and in the greek league olympiakos was in the second division and we won the championship against lavrio in the greek finals. we would have won these 2 titles with giannakopoulos himself as a coach.

compared to the clowns priftis and radonjic who replaced him though, katash looks like a mix of popovic and obradovic

This is why context matters. It sounds impressive that he won those trophies until you remember that it was like winning a one man race.

Bacon is considered from now as a former player of Panathinaikos, since coach Serelis decided on his immediate departure.
