I hope that he didn't cost us a lot of money. Do we know exactly how much?

No, I don't know the amount but for a player that is meant to be your 3rd option at C with a very limited skillset (also he's not *that* young) I think that anything over 300k is a lot :p I really hope he puts some work in to develop his rebounding and rim protection and ideally get a decent midrange jumper but I wouldn't hold my breath.

If I'm not wrong, Thanasis had signed for 700k total for 2 years, so I expect something similar for Kostas.
We keep signing our 3rd and 4th options, so it makes me wonder about who we can manage to sign as starters. Let's see if Ataman's accomplishements and DPG's money can bring the players we hear that the team targets.

Dont worry Corona time made DPG even richer than he was. He has more money than he could spend.

I fear that his personality will prevent players from signing, despite the money that he will offer

The issue with Pao at the moment isn't money (at least it seems like it). The issue is that the team has been in a downward spiral for the past decade and basketball is a small world. I'm not saying things like "Ugh, no one would ever want to come to Pao", no. But if you're a player that has comparable offers from Pao and a different team you might ask around "hey what is it like working with these people?" and some replies (depending on who you ask) might not be that great.

I don't want to hop on the optimism train just yet (I've been burned consecutive years) but there are some significant differences from past years. The biggest one is that we signed a top-shelf coach. I'm not judging his tactical prowess (not the biggest fan) but Ataman is a proven winner and with this he can carry himself with a lot more confidence around the organization. Not only in establishing his own working conditions to DPG but also rightfully demand respect from his players and the staff and everyone around him. This, in conjunction with the increased budget that allows us to get good players and not scout in the depths of peewee basketball to find the next best things makes me think that we will be able to have a decent shot at playoffs next year.

Ataman with his enthusiasm and PAO fans with their love will set OAKA on fire. The only fear is DPG who could interfere too much. Cant say that Ataman is a great in game coach but he can build greatly working teams. I just dont know how this will be possible with the likes of Kostas and Papapetrou.

There is big issue with needing 6 greek players in the squad. Between us and Oly, there are not that many good available players to be honest. Greek basketball in shambles :p

I hoped PAO sign Nikos Rokgavopoulos but it didnt happen. In my Opinion Rokga is the future of the Greek bb

Signing with Baskonia is a very smart move. Promising young players have mostly been buried by playing for Oly or Pao.

PAO gave a lot of playing time to Kalaitzakis bros, regardless of whether they are considered promising or not. In the past, yes, coaches didn't trust young players easily to play.

Playing time is one factor (the most important one) but there are other variables to player development that I think greek clubs fall behind. There has been an abundance of players that flourished in Baskonia in recent years so that's why I believe it's a smart move.

I agree with you. Besides that, at this point, I think we need players on whom the team can rely, not just promising ones that can be signed for less money, with the expectation that they will turn out to be good (I'm talking in general, not referring to Rogkavopoulos, since I haven't watched him play).

Nikos is ready for the Euroleague and not just a promising player. He is a legit EL player at least on the offensive end. Taking aside prospects like Samodurov he is the only Greek guy with an offensive arsenal.

Staying away from the toxicity of the Oly-Pao rivalry is also pretty good for the soul.

Panathinaikos has nothing to do with useless and talentless players not being able to become at least euroleague players.
charalampopoulos being the perfect example of being useless. he was given enough time and space to prove he is good and he proved he was just trash. but for paspalj its panathinaikos and maybe DPG fault these trash didnt play competetive basketball

panathinaikos has proved that its a perfect club to let you shine and play at a young age, if you have the skills to do it of course. fotsis was given playing time in the f4 back in 2000, being only 19 years old, lazaros papadopoylos the same in 2002 f4 being only 21, calathes the same being only 22 in 2011 etc.

There are also players like Karagkoutis and Gkagkaloudis, who were really promising but didn't manage to shine.

Watched Armani-Virtus for a bit and it had almost me vommiting. Very ugly basketball.

Its really not deniable that especially PAO is a graveyard for prospects. Oly integrates young players better but the Kalaitzakis bros for example werent ready at all. Especially Giorgos Kalaitzakis needs to be told that he is not what he thinks he is.

Mantzoukas on the other hand is a good shooter but doesnt deliver much except floor spacing. Defense is average at best and his rebound contribution in ratio to his height is really bad. Needs time too and not just 1 year.
