So if Micic is gona stay(Larkin, Clyburn and Bryant will 99% be there), very serious roster without injuries like last season.

Big question is if this clown Can could follow such characters in the team, still remember how Itoudis destroyed him in two games when Kokoskov was sidelined.

He lost almost every big game in his short career. But he is good for regular season at least

a bit too quick to label him, don't you think? :)

I agree it seems he's suffering from the same illness (i.e., lacking the winning mentality*) as many other Turkish coaches, but he's a good student. Efes can sacrifice a season or two if they believe this is a good investment.

*Ataman is the winner, and I expect him to return to Efes at some point in the future.

Why did Ataman really leave Efes? Because of the money that PAO offered him?

No, because he thinks he's the best solution for the dead teams. It's a kind of motivation, he call this; challenge. He could be wright, or not... we'll see.

With this roster Efes doesn't have luxury to waste season or two in waiting some kid grow as a coach

You know how difficult is in today shallow market bringing high profile players and Efes has 3 or even four of them. For such roster Pascual for instance was worth of much harder shoot then Efes did as I know

Scenario you mentioned was more suitable when Larkin, Micic and Clyburn leave, then Can could start from the scratch building new team and probably waste year or two.

Panathinaikos wants punter, exum, papapetroy and lessort from partizan.

Punter is a must
Im not such a big fan of exum cause he is not a pg. However with vildoza they can make a good duo in the point guards. Punter and another one (dorsey?) will be a good sg duo to make a very good backcourt with exum and vildoza. Of course so far only vildoza is done, will probably be the first to be announced when serbian league is over.

Papapetrou is also a must cause we need greeks. A must, but not with the role he had before he left. Now he will need to be a backup forward. Hezonja is the main target for the forwards. With a backcourt like the one i wrote above im sure that mantzoukas will step up next year cause all these guys will create huge opportunities for people in the corners and mantzoukas is great from these spots. He must improve his game with the ball though.

I disagree that lessort should get a lot of money. He is not that young and his previous euroleague seasons were bad or at least mediocre. There are hundreds of athletic big guys in the nba

The first one we should get rid of is grigonis. He was better in cycling behind the bench than actually playing the game. He can go back to zalgiris, he proved that he cant be the main offensive guy for any team+his defence is terrible

Punter, Vildoza and Dorsey? How do you intend to defend? :D

There will be one more guard, for example exum. But apart from that, there are also some people called forwards to defend if needed. How did monaco defend this season with james, okobo and the other guards? How was csska defending with even worse defenders than those you mentioned during the teodosic, de colo era?

And its 2023, games are won by offense. The only ones that keep talking about defence are some idiot greeks, fans of pedoulakis or the so called "greek coaching philosophy". And when our NT gets raped by spain or serbia they wonder why that keeps on happening even though spain plays with abalde or some random eurocup players.

Exum would suit well in the mix but if you want a working team with these 3 you have to have a rim protecting big. With Papagiannis this will not work for sure. Teo and de Colo were covered up by a very solid big rotation with strong rebounding and defending bigs.

Whether papagiannis stays or not, we are looking for another center as well. Lessort and Davies are the names we know so far. None of them suits really well with papagiannis cause all 3 of them are soft + davies is not that good defensively. Lessort would be good if papagiannis was 15kg more or he had a good season like the last and not this year's.

Csska won the euroleague with freeland (inactive) and hines (great spirit) as their bigs. They had good forwards to cover their backcourt. Thats what we should as well, but more important is to make a strong offensive backcourt

I dont think that B. Davies is a bad defender although he cant protect the rim. His offensive arsenal is just too limited. A solid low post center but the offensive output is just horrible. Papagiannis surely took one or two steps backwards after his great season one or two years ago.

Add to that some Turks present here, stucked in past basketball times and Boza Maljkovic philosophy:) Every roster must include 5 rim protectors at least:cool:

Who will score never mind, who cares as long as rim is protected

Why did Ataman really leave Efes? Because of the money that PAO offered him?
The guy has a max shelf-life. He starts to sour past that and becomes intolerable. I read there were many disagreements during the season between him and the management, and not always bball-related. Otherwise, Efes wouldn't sack a successful coach after just one bad season.

you are right, but those coaches were not available. among the available options, I understand why Efes would take a risk and opt for Can.

Micic is most likely leaving. I know we say this every summer, but I guess it's time.

No, because he thinks he's the best solution for the dead teams. It's a kind of motivation, he call this; challenge. He could be wright, or not... we'll see.

I think that it would be more challenging for him to make Efes EL champion again, rather than make PAO a competitive team, but who knows..
Maybe the challenge is whether he can persuade players to accept PAO' s high offers and sign them.

Playing defense is not some remnant of the past, some mystical ability that was lost in favor of high octane offense. It is an integral part of the game which is essential if you want to win championships. Good offense always wins over good defense, that is true. But you need at least some back up plan for the days that the shots are not falling.

You keep bringing this up but it's not true. No one likes Pedoulakis bball. Everyone likes talented offensive players. You mention CSKA but you leave out player that could actually defend like Jackson, Khryapa. Also Vorontsevich was a decent rebounder. Basketball has moved on and so have the fans. In terms of the national team we don't actively seek out defensive players, but we don't have any gifted scorers :P The one we have tends to disappear as the moments get more important. This is a big issue of the development process that I've talked about in the past, I will not expand more here.

So sure, bring Exum and Punter and whatever highflying SF you like. But then there is no way you keep Papagiannis. You need bigs that seem like they just got out of prison ready to fight everyone. I'm talking tattoos and gold teeth and a bad reputation. I'm talking hedge out defense, quick feet, rebounding like the ball is made out of diamonds and blocks as if the hoop is your baby.

But most importantly, I just want our team to resemble a normal basketball team again. That's all I ask. Some normal basketball and stay away from front office drama. That's all I want for this upcoming year.

Dibartolomeo signs with Maccabi till 2025.

A player regenerated by Katash.
