Lol really. Ever since he had a serious senior career, that is the era post 2016 OQT, so from 2017 to 2022 he played a total of 5 high stake games for Greece.

2017 Giannis was part of the team. Participated during the preparation. Got injured.
2018 No basketball tournament
2019 Giannis was part of the team.
2020 Covid year. No tournament
2021 Giannis was playing Finals during OQT. Greece didn't advance. He would have played at the Olympics.
2022 No tournament yet.

He played wherever he could play.

I gave you my opinion. Under Itoudis, after a tournament, even without Giannis and Calathes, Greece is top 4-5 in Europe.

There were definitely quite alot of games and windows where NBA players were able to play over the past 5 years, not just final tournaments. Definitely more than 5 atleast.

Ok, lets wait and see then lol.

Don't kid yourself. In what windows where Gasol and Jokic playing where Giannis was not? Giannis is devoted to the NT. If he wasn't, I would be the first to tell. I lost my sympathy vote for Diamantidis because he retired (for whatever reason) from the NT at 31.

And finally. I also like Turkey as a team. I mentioned before that it is one of the teams which will become better. Don't know where to rank them at the moment. But both their window as well as tournament teams are playing good organized basketball.

Greece top 4-5? When the last time Greece made semifinal in any mayor tournament?

In 2009 :) Last time Greece qualified for Olympics in 2008.

Only top 4-5 european countries plays in Olympics.

Especially without Giannis Greece nowhere close to top 4 by shown results in last decade.

top 4 european NT of last 5 years by shown results France,Spain,Serbia,Slovenia

Pretty much. Wouldn't you rank Lithuania 5-6? Perhaps I would. What did they do in the last 5 years? They were unlucky enough to play against France in the world cup. That's the problem if you are a 4-6 team. You need to avoid those 1-3 teams which usually eliminate you in the quarter finals. Or you need a lucky draw.

Last 2 tournaments LTU were eliminated by semifinal level team 2019 Australia,France and 2021 Slovenia.

Greece were eliminated by 2019 Brasil/Chechs and 2021 Chechs again.

Im just saying i dont consider Greece top 4 team . By shown results LTU is closer to 5-7 rank than Greece is.

If team cant make top 4 entire decade im sorry they cant be consider top 5 team in objective rankings.

.

LTU is not "closer to 5-6 spots", it is exactly there objectively. Both by official FIBA ranking and actual power ranking, IMO.

IMO, current FIBA Europe ranking is completely spot on. Lithuania at 5 and Greece at 6. That's exactly how I would rank actual power of the teams. LTU vs Greece today would be 51:49, IMO.

On other hand, if Rubio would retire, I wouldn't treat Spain as clear cut top 4 team. But he'll probably come back for WC 2023 and will make Spain legitimate medal contender again.

First 8 spots of current FIBA Europe ranking is spot on, IMO. That's best 8 teams currently, maybe only Turkey are on the same tier with Germany, Italy.

Oh it seems I got it wrong somehow. Top 4-5 in Europe with Giannis its definitely correct, without him there are many more better teams. As almost everyone claimed that Giannis would destroy in FIBA courts too I said he wont be able to have the same offensive effect that he has on NBA courts and I was right. Nevertheless Giannis developed. He plays smarter and has a slight better skill set for FIBA courts and rules and he is great on the defensive end. Of course prep time finding a role for him with two ball dominant guards is very difficult but its still a doable job.

in a direct comparison with Lithuania I think Greece (with Giannis) has the slightly better position due to the backcourt advantage.

Who are the "many more better" teams than Greece when they are without Giannis and who are not mentioned in Top 5?

Italy, Czechs, Germany, Turkey, Lithuania

Your problem is that you think Lithuania is on the same tear as Italy, Germany, Czechs, Turkey and it's not. It's above those teams. There's still a difference. Lithuania never was build for defeat against such teams. If I'm not mistaken last 12 years we didn't lose a single game against these opponents and most likely we won't in Eurobasket if fully packed.

Well, it is. I dont see any reason why I should change my mind. For me any team can beat any team aside Serbia, Spain and France.

The reason is results. Lithuania is basically historically undefeated against such teams and goes down only against top 4 teams (or not goes down) in the world with some extremely rare exceptions. You literally would need to go back to some deep times to recall a win of Turkey against Lithuania. Or Italy's, or Germany's or Czechs. Lithuania is basketball country for a reason.

I dont base my opinion on results. There are so many variables influencing the result that it says not much for me. Of course being a basketball country with history you have some advantages referring to prep time, coaching etc. but roster strength is the most valuable point here.

But it's impossible to base power rankings aside results :) Best teams are those which provides results. When Turkey will knock out one of top 6 teams of Europe (currently Spain, France, Serbia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Greece) then we'll talk. As for now, I think Turkey managed to do it only once in history and it was 2001

Its an understandable approach and I have nothing against your opinion. It remains of course to prove yourself.

BTW, I counted which Euro teams reached semis for the most times since 1992 (including OG, WC, EB).

Spain 15
Serbia 13
Lithuania 12
France 11
Greece 9
Russia 8

I did not sum up the tournaments. I simply predicted Greece's rank given the rooster and the new coaching staff. I also noted that this applies AFTER Itoudis at least has one tournament tournament to work on his team. So not even this Eurobasket. Now, as for Greece rank without Giannis. First of all, assuming Dorsey joins the project then I believe Itoudis has pretty decent material to work on. And yes, Greece would be 4-5, well maybe 5-6 without Giannis. Somewhere close to Lithuania. With Giannis, still not top 3, but perhaps Greece has more chances to reach semi's. I hope I underestimate Giannis given his development. Especially playing under Itoudis.
