Anyway Serbia will make profit as well.

ZizzitSlo, thanks for the post. Hoped for some better news, but than again... I've been asking people that might had an idea of what's going on those Fiba relations during that period and noone said a word there, most honestly had no clue, while some turned to another topic instead. Not a single article in depth on the topic I'd be aware of either.

@ZizzitSlo Great post, when you look at the bigger picture, that you presented so well, it really looks like Eurobasket will not have a bright future and also i worry for basketball in Serbia, Lithuania and other smaller countries since there is a tendency to push them out of the elitist circle of those big rich nations regardless of their quality, tradition, relevance. I understand that money is important but FIBA should serve to balance and protect/develop basketball not degrade it to maximize profit.

Eliminating Eurobasket as qualification tournament for WC is catastrophic. Even worse than reducing the frequency of Eurobasket.

Aren't you mistaken? If I understood correct Eurobasket won't be qualification for Olympics, not WC? What is really ugly - wild card system for the Olympics... Are they fuck'n mad? It's Olympics, the esense of sportive prinicpal.

Ye I agree. What might happen is that best players will not play EC. As exempel most of the elit players on this EC play only since this EC serve as olympic qualification.

So how exactly does the new Olympic qualification system work?
I think they really should get rid of the Wild Card Tournaments. Make the zone qualifiers THE Olympic qualifying tournaments for each zone.

I already get this, but I have two questions:
1. Does the FIBA World Champion automatically qualify for the Olympics?
2. Does the new Olympic qualifiers work the same way as the new WC qualifiers do?

So the World Champion does directly qualify for the Olympics, and the best teams from each continent, not by rank, qualify for the Olympics.
This basically makes the new WC an Olympic qualifier.
HOWEVER, does that mean that even if all Asian teams don't make it to the top 16 of the 2019 WC, the top Asian team will still qualify?

its always 6 europeans teams are in top8 in world cup ...So those top6 europeans will have to fight for 2 spots,basically you will have to win medal in world cup in order to get direct ticket to Olympics if who are from europe...when africa,asia best team will take like15-16 place and they will get direct tickets to olympics...FIBA IS NOT FAIR TO EUROPE SIDE.Europe atleast should get 3 direct tickets ! But this when money begin to talk...Teams that do not make qualification tournament,should not even have right to host such tournaments,but ofcourse fiba will let,because they will get very good money...always countries like russia,turkey will be glad to pay that money...

I'm not that afraid of the major tournaments than most of you seems to be. Every team is going to get most of their best players anyway, just like it has always been. If player wants to represent his country, he is going to do it anyway. If you win Eurobasket you are champion of Europe and that's why they'll come to play. Not for the Olympic berth or something, they play for the gold medal.
What I'm really worried about is those qualification games to EC and WC if those takes place during the club season like in football.

In 2013 there was also no big point either, cause nobody really cared for qualifyin' to World Cup, so huge number of top players missed the tournament. If I understood correctly from judasmartel posted last pic (I didn't see it before somehow), two best teams in 2017 will get direct ticket to Olympic qualifiers, it's already more than it was with qualification to previous World champs

Exactly. Call it unfair all you want, but what would you want, then, the OG filled with EU teams and not much representation from Asia (excluding AUS and NZL) and Africa?
We will not be able to close the talent gap unless we get enough tickets to the world-level tourneys, you know. At least we Asian teams only need to vie for 5 spots in the WC (excluding AUS and NZL since they will top Asia-Pacific anyway), so one outright ticket to the Olympics is fair enough for us since IOC is adamant at keeping its 12-team tourney when a 16-team tourney (3 each from Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, 2 from Africa, 1 host, no wild cards) could benefit everyone better.

Lol at qualification system for the WC , none of the major stars will be available , NBA teams will not let their players to take the part in the qualifiers, neither will European clubs let their players as well . FIBA is a joke, they are trying so hard to be like Fifa , but its just impossible , bunch of idiots ruining game of basketball.

Euroleague doesnt have the leverage to ban their players from playing in qualifiqations.Let alone the fact that i dont think eurolegue as we know it will even exist by then.Concerning NBA there is a huge issue though,and it's just unfair to countries that rely on NBA players.Imagine France with 7-8 players playing there.They would have to use europe based players but why would these players be excited to play in qualifiqtions if they know that NBA stars will take their place in the major tournament.A mess.
