Very early yet, is not even known who will host it yet Josko if its to early you can delit it.

Candidates are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIBA_EuroBasket_2017

1.LTU-LAT-EST-FIN
2.SRB-MKD-BUL
3.UK
4.ISR
5.POL
6.SLO
7.BEL

One nations almost has no chance to get it. Specialy not SLO who hosted 2013 and POL 2009. And 2012 wos a bad turn out at the olimpic in UK.

Top 2 favourite are LTU-LAT-EST-FIN and SRB-MKD-BUL.

With a clear advantage to SRB-MKD-BUL since LTU hosted it 2011 and LAT 2015.

Bid is very good.

Belgrade Arena (20.000) capacity
Arena Armeec Sofia (12.500) capacity
JS Sport Center Skopje (8.500) capacity (When satelite tribune are used) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE5Tv2ZhxDY
We might get two groups since Belgrade and Sofia will get knock out stage. BT Sport centar in Skopje (7.000) capacity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTmCN8zFYE0

I think they would definitely go for 2 groups in Serbia if they win. In Belgrade you have Arena of 20k, but also Pionir which might be used for the group stage. Novi Sad has Spens which seats 11.500. Nis has newly renovated Cair. Vrsac has a phenomenal hall but logistics of the city hosting are a problem. So there is 99% chance that 2 groups will go in Serbia.

If we get it and Serbia gets 2 groups it will most def be Belgrade and Novi Sad because of the seats capacity and good infrastructure. Though Belgrade-Nis-Sofia-Skopje would be maybe more reasonable as that way all the cities are a bit more clustered.

Nis did host a group in 2012 for the handball championship and it went great, also NT in Basketball plays often in Nis cause of support and loves it. Infrastructure is there, seating capacity is smaller though I agree (up to 6k). Facilities are better than Spens though.

Its almost done deal that we will get it, and I give you a few reasons on my first post on this topic and you also have a few more reasons such as that Fiba allready reacted us onece to host olympic Q torney and now is pay back time. Our basketball presedent Petar Naumoski in good relation with the turkish Fiba president. we realy need this to continue to have basketball interes in MKD. + BUL never hosted it too, and Serbia 2005 long ago compered with LTU 2011 and LAT 2015.

Serbia might gett two groups only thing for sure is that Belgrade will host finale, few knock out matches and 1 group, Sofia few knok oput matches and 1 group, Skopje at least 1 group with a chance yo gett two.

Most likely is that Cair in Nis will gett it, poeple from Montenegro will make it full. Wild guess is that Montenegro will not play in same group as MKD, SRB or BUL. and the group will go to Nis is close to MNE. Skopje aint that far away too but Nis closer.

Regarding Montenegro people, they don't naturally fluctuate towards Nis, always Belgrade so that is not necessarily true. We are about 450km away from most of Montenegro, but the trip still takes 8 hours by car at least (mountains etc, crappy roads). So it will be only 2 hours more to Belgrade. That is not necessarily a factor. Also Belgrade airport has several daily flights to Belgrade and a return ticket was always around 90euros. Nis has one morning flight during the summer season. MKD will naturally crowd Nis in case there is EB2017 group there with Skoplje being 2 hours away. Already in the handball EC there were so many of you here.

Slovenian federation has just expressed their willingness to host one group in the first stage. I predict just about every country will do so eventualy and do their best to bind among themselves with the most likely organisers out there to secure a group, just as I've said in that other thread.

I've heard somewhere that Turkey intends to bid for EC (last one in 2001, WC in 2010) alone. They already have more than just great infrastructure.

Italian federation is a mess, otherwise Milano, Roma, Torino, Pesaro, Bologna all have good capacities, tourist and arena-wise as long as they'd manage to organise themselves, my guess is that they'll try giving it a shot to catch their golden generation's prime.

I don't want to see England hosting any basketball organizations anymore. We watched the far worst Euroleague F4 2 years ago. They don't know what basketball is.

And they don't let people come in their sands. They ask if we are terrorists or having any plans to kill someone in visum. With the most depressive climate, cold and nose in the air people....

Is to late to make any bid. So ITA and TUR is out.

Ye a lot of Macedonian handball fans made it to Nis, but also Belgrade some 18.000 made it just insane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozchK_3d0dc

But MKD will not play group matches in Nis, just in Skopje. And unfortunately handball is nummber 1 sport in Macedonia (just look at budgets RK Vardar 8 milion, RK Metalurg 2.5 milion compered with KK MZT 1 milion, KK Kumanovo 850K that tells a lot) so Is doubtfull if Macedonians to travel to Nis just to watch Poland-Germany. But they will fill Belgrade arena during a knock out match, or Sofia arena for that matter. Is clear no knock out match will be playd in Skopje but will be like home in Belgrade too and Iam sure we can make it from the group if we gett this EC.

I've googled just about all I could find as of now and the only news are related to Ukraine, Czechs got the woman eurobasket 2017 and there is no news about the bidding process for 2017 eurobasket coming to some noticable phase already. Somewhere within Fiba's press releases in june it was mentioned that the process will be prolongued after Ukraine declined hosting it.

Josko, is to littel time since they will decide in early december. You most early give Fiba a very serious plan and organisation, this is not easy in just 2 months from now if you have not started yet.

You can not tell Fiba we will do this and that 2017 cuz it most be allready done in december.

So i can say that 99.9% we allready have all bid makers. SRB-MKD-BUL started allready 2012 with the plan. Just cheak out the dates of the links on that wiki link.

And Josko since Ilievski is one of your fav players. Here is an great articel made by sportmedia today about him and since he playd his last NT match last night.

http://sportmedia.mk/kosharka/reprezentacija/zamina-reprezentot-na-stilot-srce-na-teren

google translate it to slovenian or english. This is of topic but open MKD NT topic cuz of one post is not any greta idea.

2017, 2 years from now, Andrej Magdevski (Unicaja) and Kristijan Nikolov (Galatasaray but on loan) will be 21 years old, one of them or maybe bothe should replace him 2017.

As to Skopje as host city 2017. Skopje invested a lot last few years on sport infrastructure, also infrastructure such as roads, new airport, transport, Hotels, etc. As exempel Skopje will host Uefa Super Cup 2017.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_UEFA_Super_Cup

Skopje today is a very renovated city, simply a different city than it wos a few years ago. Fans will have a lot to see as well.

FIBA could select a combination of any of those countries on the list. I.e. Serbia, Finland, Belgium, Israel.

Skopje today is a very renovated city, simply a different city than it wos a few years ago. Fans will have a lot to see as well.

The question is whether it's has been renovated for the better or worse. When I was studying in USA and later when I lived in Greece I had a girlfriend from Skopje (Karpus All The Way :D :D :D ) for 3 years and I used to spend a lot of time there during the early 2000s. I miss that Skopje so much, this now looks like a fucking tourist souvenir sold on the streets of Pefkohori :D It's awful...

Kidding aside, I like improvements to the infrastructure just that aesthetics and clowning with downtown is awful.

If bidding process is not close Turkey might go for it.
We have great infrastructure about the arenas:

Istanbul: Sinan Erdem Arena (15,600), Fenerbahce Ulker Arena (13,800), Abdi Ipekci Arena (11,500)
Ankara: Ankara Arena (11,000), Aski (8,000)
Izmir: Halkapinar Arena (10,000)
Antalya: Antalya Arena (new about to complete - 10,000)
Kayseri: Kadir Has (10,000)
Konya: Torku Arena (10,000)
Sivas, Trabzon, Mersin, Gaziantep (all have arenas with 7,500 capacity)

If Turkey wants to host we have a great chance...

I don't think Lithuania will go for it. There were plans for this Baltic bid for this 2015 Eurobasket, when Ukraine withdrew, but it didn't happen for some reason, don't remember why. Lithuania was interested cause it was pre-Olympic tournament, but now I see no reason for us to go for 2017, we aren't rich to organize it. It's more likely that we will go for OQT next year, even tho the starting price to get organisation is ridiculously high and probably will rise

Wait a minute, guys.

So EuroBasket 2017 will be 32 teams, right? Is FIBA supposed to pick four hosting venues holding two groups of 4 each OR EIGHT hosting venues holding one group of 4 each?

Just asking.

Are there 32 teams in Europe? :D

I guess there are 32+, the EuroBasket qualification rounds says it all.

Oh yeah, I forgot EuroBasket will no longer be the official qualifying tournament for the FIBA WC starting 2017. Maybe they still go with the 24-team format?
