No chance of Omar Samhan or Omar Oraby joining the NT?

I think they would be valuable big men for the Egyptian NT and since Egypt's tallest player is 207 cm which compared to previous NT's isn't the tallest

Unfortunately ,no!!!!
Furthermore, there is no obvious view regarding the NT preparation up till now.
They made a training camp in Serbia where the played weak friendlies against Belarus and a Serbian club.
And Jones Cup this year is weaker compared to the previous year and it is not suitable for preparing for a big tournament like the World Cup.
No good international tournament up till now the federation officially announced they will participate at!!!!( like Angola , Senegal, Iran) .
I was ambitious we could make something against Serbia ( like Nigeria at 2006 with NCAA based players ) and Iran.
But Our federation is extremely far away form these thoughts.
Simply, weak roster + weak preparation = fore-coming disaster.
I now only hope avoiding Double Score results.

What's an excuse of Omar Samhan this time? In the beginning he was so dedicated once again, talked about WC, dream to play for NT and etc  I remember as an excuse not toplay in NT, he said that got tired after long Euroleague season... where he played 20mins in all the games!!! I liked this guy back in the days when he was in LT, sure he was far from bein' hard-working player, but seemed like friendly outgoin' fella, but the more time flies, the more news comes from him, the more lies I read about NT and other stuff, the more bragging I hear, the more it's getting obvious that he is so full of bullshit. Sad

CAIRO (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Egypt head coach Amr Aboul Kheir has announced his preliminary squad for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup without confirming the presence of Ehab Amin, Omar Oraby and Omar Samhan.

Amin, who led the North African country in scoring with 15.7 points per game at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship, has committed to pursue his academic and basketball career at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and might have to report to school prior to the World Cup.

"As of today (Saturday 26 July) I don't know if he will be the team for the remained of the training camp, but I have to understand his position, although I would like to see him continuing working with the national team," Aboul Kheir explained to FIBA.com.

Amin, an explosive 1.86m point guard who's made his name on the African continent in recent years and is often projected to make an impact for the Egyptian senior team, is one of the players coach Aboul Kheir hopes to select for next year's AfroBasket, which remains Egypt's top priority.

As for seven-footer Oraby, who played for the Houston Rockets at the Las Vegas Summer League, Aboul Kheir says he could be an asset for Egypt once his professional career is decided.

Meanwhile, Samhan has been invited to join the team but has not confirmed his presence.

In the wake of the team's preparations, Egypt last week played three warm-up games on Serbian soil, registering a win and a defeat against Belarus, followed by another loss to Switzerland.

"These are not top European teams, but these games help us to improve our quality," said Aboul Kheir.

From the group of players that finished second at the AfroBasket 2013, nine remain in the preliminary squad, while Anas Mahmoud - who committed to play for the Louisville University - Ahmed Baraka and Abou-Khadra Ibrahim have been left out.

At the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Egypt will take on hosts Spain, Brazil, France, Serbia and Iran in Granada's Group A.

Egypt preliminary squad for FIBA Basketball World Cup: Ashraf Rabea, Ibrahim El Gammal, Sheriff Abdalla, Moamen Abou El Einen, Assem Marei, Wael Khedr, Haytham Khalifa, Mouhanad El Sabag, Rami Abdalla, Seif Samir, Mohamed Bassiouny, Amir El Gendy, Ehab Amin, Mohamed Ell-Ithy, Yossef Sousha and Mostafa Mekawy.

Finally ,Omar Oraby will join the national team at Jones Cup after the federation has accepted some documents from him stating that his absence in the last afrobasket 2013 was due to academic reasons.

Egypt won over Ulsan Moebis South Korean Club 80-78 at the opening of William Jones Cup.

Saw that game. Egypt played better team basketball compared to Ulsan. Egypt will play better as the tournament progresses.

Despite Elgammal's individual performance of 26 points, Egypt lost to Jordan 74-61. Elgammal was trying to keep his team within striking distance in the 3rd and 4th but Jordan pulled away thanks to Alawadi's shooting.

Very disappointing result of a qualified team to the World Cup !!!!!

Assem Marei didn't make it back from his injury in time? Probably the weakest team in the tournament...

Spanish Pep Claros is the new coach of Egypt.

Well-travelled Pep Claros takes charge of Egypt

ALEXANDRIA (AfroBasket 2015/Olympics) - Egypt have put veteran Spanish coach Josep 'Pep' Claros in charge of their national team.

The country's basketball federation reached out to Claros after their first-place finish in the Eliminations Zone V competition in Uganda at the end of September, a result that qualified the team for AfroBasket 2015 in Tunisia.

Not long after, the sides agreed on a contract.

Claros will coach the team at FIBA Africa's flagship event and, if the Egyptians qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he will also lead the team at those Summer Games.

The 45-year-old, currently at the helm of the Halifax Rainmen in Canada's National Basketball League, said to FIBA.com: "In April, I will start to work in Cairo.

"We'll begin to train as soon as we can. The (Egyptian) national league will be in its final stage so it will be good to watch some players live in the best part of their season."

It's easy to see why Egypt became interested in Claros.

The multi-lingual coach - he speaks Catalan, Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian and French - has a wealth of experience both in his homeland and abroad, and he has enjoyed plenty of success.

Claros has coached in Europe and in North, Central and South America.

As a head coach, he has been in 13 finals with different teams in 10 countries.

In international basketball, he coached El Salvador's national team to Copa Independencia Championship glory.

As coach of Mexico (2010-13), Claros steered the Mexicans to a silver medal at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez.

His team nearly came from behind to beat hosts Puerto Rico in the Final but fell, 82-77.

Claros coached Mexico at the CentroBaskets in the Dominican Republic (2010) and Puerto Rico (2012).

Egypt were not at full strength at the FIBA Basketball World Cup where they had to go up against true powerhouses in Group A (hosts Spain, France, Serbia, Brazil and Iran), suffered heavy defeats in all of their games.

The potential is there, however, for a team that fought through adversity under coach Amr Abouelkhir and finished runners-up at AfroBasket 2013 to clinch a spot at this year's World Cup.

"My expectations are always high," Claros said.

"No matter who you play against, it's clear that you can always compete and win if you work harder than the others.

"At the end of the day, it's 5-on-5, there are two baskets and one ball.

"So you have to be prepared.

"If you play against a team of the same level, you must win.

"If the opponent is better than your team, you still can win playing above your limit.

"If the opponent is much better than you... they have to fight until last second to beat you.

"After a game, we all know that you could have dome more so in practices, we need to work in order to reduce the distance between what you do and what you can do.

"This is the only way you can feel a bit satisfied."
