If the PBA did something right, it's scheduling the Commissioner's Cup right in line with the EASL season.

What league / tournament that was held pre-pandemic that strictly followed FIBA eligibility rules? The one that banned fil-ams from playing for Meralco(?) Was it the one held in Macau? That's not EASL right?

I hope EASL keeps the PBA busy that they (PBA) would not have time for Gilas

EASL draw to be held on June 28 at the Shangri-La Fort Manila

MANILA, Philippines-The inaugural draw of lot for the coming East Asia Super League (EASL) is set on June 28 at the Shangri-La Fort Manila.

Matt Beyer, the EASL co-founder and CEO, will preside over the ceremony to be attended by no less than FIBA executive director for Asia and FIBA Asia secretariat CEO Hagop Khajirian.

Representatives from competing teams Seoul SK Knights and Anyang KGC from the Korean Basketball League (KBL), Utsonomiya Brex and Ryukyu Golden Kings of the B. League, and the Bay Area Dragons from Greater China will be coming over, while the PBA and P LEAGUE+ still have to determine the teams seeing action in the tournament and will be given their respective designations during the draw.

The finals of the P LEAGUE+ is ongoing between the Taipei Fubon Braves and Hsinchu JKO Lioneers, with the champion earning a berth in the EASL tournament, while the champion and runner-up teams in the ongoing Philippine Cup will represent the PBA.

The process of the draw will have each domestic league given the right to choose the side during the coin flip, and the winner being placed in Group A and the other in Group B.

The PBA Board of Governors led by chairman Ricky Vargas, commissioner Willie Marcial, and the league’s management committee have been invited to attend the ceremony.

Barangay Ginebra governor and San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua will represent the PBA in the EASL Advisory Board.

The EASL format will have the eight teams being divided into two groups of four and will play home-and-away games within its group or a total of six matches per team.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the semis, and the two surviving clubs fighting for the championship and the $1 million prize money at stake.

The EASL is set for an October 12 inaugural.

other easl member leagues already have their representatives or has a simple process of determining their representative, while the PBA still has no idea which team they will send!

any idea if this team will be competitive from the get go, chemistry would be a issue early on

Quite a tall team with some 6'6-6'8 forwards, Scotty Ewing is more of a points guard hehe and Kobey Lam based on his YouTube highlights is really a 2 guard at 6'3, Jason Brickman if he's available would be a big help for this team at the backcourt

Groupings are out.

Group A: Anyang KGC, Ryukyu Golden Kings, Taipei Fubon Braves, PBA All-Filipino champion

Group B: Seoul SK Knights, Utsonomiya Brex, Bay Area Dragons, PBA All-Filipino runner-up

W/o CBA teams, we might have a chance to win there.. especially if they have better reinforcement when they play here… it’s hard to guess who will representing PBA squads but I’m sure that It could be 1 SMC team and 1 MVP team will make it there…

I actually pegged the SMC teams to be the favorites to qualify. I dunno about NLEX and MERALCO's chances, and TNT can't qualify this year.

Plus, our teams might have to learn to defend the perimeter, and rotate harder. 3PT% is as follows:

Ryukyu: 36.1%
Utsunomiya: 34.6%
Seoul SK: 34.1%
Anyang: 33.9%
Taipei Fubon: 32.6%

So the AFC finalists this year will qualify? I think the 3 front runners will be GSM, SMB and TNT.

Yeah, All-Filipino finalists this year will qualify. TNT, however, won't qualify, due to its helping Gilas. In case TNT makes the finals, the 3rd placer will qualify.

What Fiba games are in conflict? Presumptive of Chot to think many TNT guys will be there. If the current guys do decently in their remaining games I dont expect a great demand for Pogoy, Rosario or Montalbo. Erram might be there. But I would think PBA will prioritize Junemar or Japeth as their rep. Rosario might not be even there even if Navarro is not considered because Balti is in contention for the mobile defensive 4 slot.

Why don't the PBA just combine the Comms. Cup and the Govs. Cup and have atleast 2-3 imports playing with the locals, so that the team that they will be sending will have better chemistry in the EASL comp.

Two world imports, one Asian import
