That was still their problem since last conference.. This conference, they lost 3 straight in a row, not just only against TNT (also against Magnolia and Meralco)... CTC has to realize that twin combo will not work this current generation... They won last 2020 because good spacing, as Japeth only legit big then the rest are forwards who can switch any from 2 - 4 spot...
I agree getting CS was a mistake for them. I think though it was Chua who dumped CS on Ginebra. Chua doesnt want CS to go to MVP so he rotates them to the other SMC teams. But CS is a space killer for them. They last won a championship when their 2nd big was a stretch center. With CS and Japeth clogging the lanes the GSM guards dont have as much space to shoot from outside. Even Brownlee cannot save them. Because he either plays SF with CS and Japeth with spacing problems or he plays PF and is outmuscled by the other beefier imports.Pringle is also injured.

Ginebra was kinda fine offensively, actually. 45% from the field.
What's concerning is the defense. It's not just one game, it's been a theme this year. Even with their 3-guard lineups, they get burned. Late rotations, wide open opposing shooters. What's more is that Cone is willing to give up perimeter jumpers. Collapse the paint and whatnot. Plus, the personnel. Only Scottie's a good perimeter defender in the roster.
Honestly, for the record, I'm not against playing small. Brownlee and Arvin as the 3 and 4 is a FIBA-sized small-ball lineup, actually. Might improve the switchability of the team.
Arvin did not show much actually. He is not a good defender. He is a good spotup shooter but as an SF he needs to be more.

One loss and this is the mindset. It work in the bubble. They just don't have a penetrator like pringle. Watch Yezkiel YT, its not purely Triangle anymore.
People here wants a tall line up which Ginebra did and when get burned or lost to 4 out offense and pinoy ball we get angry. Don't get it
Cone gave up alot of wide open threes to Indonesia and Thailand. Many of those threes connected.
Gilas gave up 16/40 (40%) threes to Indonesia while it gave up 11/32 (34%) to Thailand. That was terrible defense in the perimeter. Tim Cone is just damn lucky that his team was offensively overloaded.

So, after the season's over, how does the PBA plan on selecting the EASL teams, especially since we have more than one tournament per regular season? Do we select the champions (TNT and Ginebra), or have a tournament from among the finalists (TNT, Ginebra, Magnolia, MERALCO)?

still no news regarding this, if we would use the cumulative standings, the top 4 teams are TNT (26-11), Magnolia (27-14), Meralco (25-15) and SMB (19-13) but yeah i hope the 2 champions should represent us

The PBA should actually consider having two imports for the whole season, so teams could get used to that setup even if they're not in the EASL. Although I think there could be limitations on the second import. Mine is that they have to have played in the PBA for at least two conferences (which also should give them a chance to be in the permanent roster).

For me the cap should be the aggregate height of two imports should not exceed 4.1 meters/410 centimeters.

imagine if Pringle and Japeth will be healthy during the EASL, a lineup of a 7FT Import + Japeth + Brownlee + Pringle + LA with the bench crew of Cstan, Scottie, Chan, Caperal, Tolentino, Mariano and Pinto would be scary in the Asian level provided that they dont forget to defend the perimeter.
Im not confident with TNT even with 2 imports (Hopefully they could tap T. Jones) and a prime mikey. Troy and Pogoy have a history of choking/sucking at intl tourneys.

Ill get a mcullough as import cstan will eat the slow bigs just put japeth and mcullough as weakside help..and put cstan as spark off the bench..

i feel that the aggregate height is better to implement since teams are given freehand to select imports based on their needs not because they are compelled to follow the cap.

It shows CTC's coaching is too old school.. while everyone in the world adopting modern basketball system, CTC still stuck to his old school Triangle system that is not effective nowadays... I love CTC and he's the greatest coach in PBA history but his coaching style will not work these days..

The post robert was replying to (which was mine) wasn't even talking about Cone's offense, it was Ginebra's defense. Need to work on that to help them in the EASL (if they do qualify).
Pero to answer re: triangle, Cone modified his offense. I think there are triangle concepts, but yeah, he modernized the offense. More emphasis on threes (which is warranted, considering their success from beyond the arc), and more ball screen action (which has been a staple of modern offenses).

McDaniels plus jones is already enough for tnt.. they have a decent performance last easl, they did better playing against eventual champion Liaoning than smb, who just beat by big margin even that tnt didn’t use their starters in their line up.. I’d also available, tnt can take andray blatche for naturalized spot (I don’t know if easl will separate world imports and naturalized players just like in b league).. I know many hate chot but I still think tnt will do good there..
TNT need another wing. I think getting KJ back would be good for them.
